I think you have to show up in person to really appreciate how hammered everyone gets...

I think it's brilliant on Terry's part. He wants people in the seats, not listening at home. I think he goes above and beyond most sprint car races to make it worth the ticket price.

Just my piddely $.02

While I don't sport any of his clothing items I find it incredulous someone questions his committment to bringing the best in racing to the fans.  I was fortunate enought to attend this annual event on a number of occasions and I can assure you it is truly an event.  Besides, you will have enough racing available on the "net" in just a little for 48 hours.  Just relax and wait.  Smile

Wow.  Talk about how spoiled we've become when someone gets this mad about a promoter deciding to make people actually buy a ticket to his race so people can find out live what happens.  Next thing you know people will be mad because the Nationals aren't broadcast on live televsion for free.  Instead, you have to actually pay money to either buy a ticket or watch them on pay per view online!

Event promoter chooses not to allow RacinBoys Radio webcast of tonight’s ‘Front Row Challenge’

Posted on: August 5th, 2013 by rb_admin

(Oskaloosa, IA) — RacinBoys was informed over the weekend  tonight’s Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series sanctioned “Front Row Challenge” will not be webcast.   Promoter Terry McCarl decided not to allow the event to be heard due to fears it would affect ticket sales for the event.  This is the first time in the five seasons RacinBoys has not been allowed to broadcast live a Lucas Oil ASCS national event.

“We are greatly disappointed we are not allowed to broadcast the races from Oskaloosa,” said RacinBoys President Scott Traylor.  “We were looking forward to bringing live coverage from a new venue and a traditional event such as the Front Row Challenge.  RacinBoys prides itself by making sure our listeners are fully informed on everything that goes on with the Lucas Oil ASCS and will still be in Oskaloosa covering the race with video, interviews and updates.”

Next scheduled RacinBoys Radio webcast of the Lucas Oil ASCS national tour is Friday, August 16 at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma.

According to RacinBoys, this is the first ASCS National race in over 5 years they will not be broadcasting live at. For someone who is not attending this race, i am disappointed in McCarl's decision, nor am not surprised by promoter greed.

Although I am not a big T-mac fan, I do understand this from a promoters point of view.  You want paying butts in the seats.

I assume ASCS doles out the right to broadcast to RacinBoys?  Guess someone needs a better contract.

As far as promoters greed... Terry fields sprint cars every week at Knoxville and Husets for our enjoyment. If he can make some extra bucks and leep those cars on the track,  good for him.

To be clear, RacinBoys didn't broadcast the STN's last year because it was PVP event. But RacinBoys was a part of that PVP broadcast.

While it's well within T-Mac's rights to so as a promoter, he's got to be vastly overrating the impact a live broadcast will have on the gate. I would highly doubt you're going to find enough people who are able to attend that would not go because they can listen to an audio webcast. Video and he'd have a better argument, but audio alone I just can't see causing a large amount of people to not attend.

What's next - no posting updates on the internet or tweeting? No uploading of photos from the event? It just sets a bad precedent.

While I would like to listen to the race, I don't really think that it's up to anyone but McCarl to make that decision. It sucks, in my opinion... but that's his business decision... and my opinion can't tell someone how to run their business.

However, I've been watching sprint cars on TV since the Diamond P Sports days in the 80's... and based on my memory, live or taped delayed, I've yet to see an event that wasn't at least close to full in the stands... expect maybe when they put dirt on Bristol and they had the stands blocked off half way up due to safety concerns.

and that's TV... I doubt that internet radio would have more pull than TV.

So I don't necessarily see the point for ticket sales reasons. Oh well... on to Knoxville PPV. Anybody have $124 that I can borrow??

Smile

Doesn't bother me at all. His prerogative. Makes it one of those 'had to be there events'. There's so many events broadcast now, it's pretty saturated. Hey, racinboys, enjoy your night off!

I understand Terry's point, but knowing what I know about our broadcast I don't feel we would have hurt his front gate much if at all. Real sprint car fans go to the track when they live close enough and can afford it. I just feel bad for the family members and fans who can't attend the event.

I have zero hard feeling towards Terry, just dissapointed.
