this event has been on my bucket list for years and finally am going to make the event. how many of you are going?,

many things i like about smokes place, besides racing that is. cheap mixed drinks, bring in your own food, lawn chairs, and oh yeah, cheap admission. he knows how to make it happen, he doesn't need the money!

PS. almost forgot, the huge jumbotrons (sp).

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

The concession food is always good and cheap to. My wife and I actually stopped bringing food into the track because the prices at Eldora are actually reasonable. Only a couple bucks for chicken tenders or a burger and a dollar for a coke. Only issue at times is that the event tends to run very late which I have no problem with but I have heard a few people complain about the length of time. A few years ago we didn't get out of the track until after 1 or 2am but the way I look at it, that just more time to watch sprint car racing

You should try coming early and hit the Doty classic a few days before that. Always one of the best shows of the year for any series and a good turnout of drivers. Last year I think a few guys from Knoxville drove over and raced the whole week.

Several people have been unanimously praising Doty Classic. I'm trying to fit KR & maybe Indiana Sprint Week into my plans, & was curious why Doty Classic is so special?

It used to be a really good show when it was at Attica. I havn't been to it since they moved it to Lima, though. Usually any racing on a bullring like that is pretty good and has a lot of good racing all over the track.

Trust me I'm not a PR person for the event, just a big fan of the track and how the event usually goes. The track does a great job with getting the track in good shape for the drivers to race. A lot of slidejobs and crossovers done throughout the heats and feature. The track is a bull ring but it has wide corners to allow plenty or room for passing. Its one of the few tracks where you will see a lot of passing during the heat races too. Plus its always during KR week and the track is only about an hour away and Eldora usually has some type of charter bus to take fans from Eldora to Lima. The week is one of the better weeks in Ohio for sprint car racing. We know that we are no California, Knoxville, or PA but we have a lot of great racing in the state as well with a lot of great tracks like Lima, Eldora, Fremont, Attica, KC (hopefully it reopens) etc.

Also, I believe the day before the Doty, Sharon speedway which Dave Blaney owns has the Lou Blaney Memorial with 410 races (Tony usually races in it with a few KKR cars as well) and big block modifieds. Sharon speedway is on the other side of Ohio, a few hours away from Eldora but its usually a great event. Depending on where you stay you can go to Sharon speedway on Tuesday, Lima Weds, Eldora on Friday/Saturday, Indiana the next week for wingless sprint week.

NWFAN, glad you're gettin to mark it off the list. The wife and I will be there as usual, it's one of the ones we try not to miss. Don't know where you'll be coming from but if you're passing thru Greenville OH, just south of the Big E, we always stop at a little sandwich shop on the main drag there called Maidrites and get sandwiches and head to the city park a few blocks away. Place has been there as long as I can remember and I've been goin to Eldora since the mid sixties. Can't find it ask any of the locals. Don't know what your schedule allows but this year it so happens USAC will be at Lawrenceburg IN for an IN speed week show on sunday night after the KR. Lawrenceburg just a short hop south just outside Cincinnatti. Great facility if you've never been there. Worth the trip if you can squeeze it in.

I would love to go and film it as I have not made this one yet. All I need is a place to pitch my tent (no pun intended)

Limaland is a really nice track, both racing and facility wise. It's always a really good field, and quality racing.

at this particular time i believe i will be staying in dayton. seems as though getting a hotel anywhere near eldora would be an issue unless you have any recommendiations?

the sandwhich shop sounds great, food for the track maybe also.

i went to eldora several times in 2010 when i was hauling fifthwheels and trailers around the countyry. what a great place it is!

You will have a great time.I have been going here for 30 years or so.It has always been a great place to watch a race.Earl Baltes started this place in 1954 and always had some great ideas for publicity stunts, like the time Poncho Carter married two apes on the front streatch.Earl is in his late 80s now and still goes to the races.Tony Stewart has made some great improvments to the place the few years he has owned it.

Yes, a must see race! You won't be disappointed with Limaland, they fly around that bullring.

If you are forced to stay at a hotel, I would try Piqua, Sidney & Troy in that order before Dayton...camping at the track is the ultimate experience, and I wouldn't do it any other way.
