Look us up slick...We'll be in the campground @ both...Just wander around and yell "Smitty" to find us...
|
LOL, if we can yell loud enough. Might be easier when we make it up to the promised land of Lincoln and the Grove in May!

You will have a great time.I have been going here for 30 years or so.It has always been a great place to watch a race.Earl Baltes started this place in 1954 and always had some great ideas for publicity stunts, like the time Poncho Carter married two apes on the front streatch.Earl is in his late 80s now and still goes to the races.Tony Stewart has made some great improvments to the place the few years he has owned it.

I was there when the apes were married!

Been to every Kings Royal and the last Five Brad Doty Classics at Lima and I will be there again this year. The Doty race is definately a do not miss on my list now. High banked 1/4 mile with wall all the way around the outside, more passing and action than you will ever see anywhere all year. Best and closest place for hotel at Kings Royal is Greenville Inn 15 minutes south of the track. It does not look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you the rooms are very clean and recently updated. I have been there for the past four years and they usually have rooms available later than most hotels in the area. Unfortunately they know what weekend it is so it is $100.00+ per night.

I remember being a young lad at Eldora and asking my parents what a wet t-shirt contest was and them giving me a very vague & very fictional definition of what it was. lol

I'm thinking about quitting smoking that week, which should make me good and irritable...

for those of you keep asking "why is the Doty so cool?". #1) it's the Brad Doty Classic! Paying tribute to one of the best this sport ever had. #2) go to youtube....search Brad Doty Classic. Should be all you need
do it in the dirt

Trust me I'm not a PR person for the event, just a big fan of the track and how the event usually goes. The track does a great job with getting the track in good shape for the drivers to race. A lot of slidejobs and crossovers done throughout the heats and feature. The track is a bull ring but it has wide corners to allow plenty or room for passing. Its one of the few tracks where you will see a lot of passing during the heat races too. Plus its always during KR week and the track is only about an hour away and Eldora usually has some type of charter bus to take fans from Eldora to Lima. The week is one of the better weeks in Ohio for sprint car racing. We know that we are no California, Knoxville, or PA but we have a lot of great racing in the state as well with a lot of great tracks like Lima, Eldora, Fremont, Attica, KC (hopefully it reopens) etc.
Also, I believe the day before the Doty, Sharon speedway which Dave Blaney owns has the Lou Blaney Memorial with 410 races (Tony usually races in it with a few KKR cars as well) and big block modifieds. Sharon speedway is on the other side of Ohio, a few hours away from Eldora but its usually a great event. Depending on where you stay you can go to Sharon speedway on Tuesday, Lima Weds, Eldora on Friday/Saturday, Indiana the next week for wingless sprint week.

The Lou Blaney memorial is on August 20th this year, there is no race prior to the Doty at Sharon.

I was at Eldora as a youngster and they had a wet t-shirt contest. A bunch of people ran down to the fence, blocking everyone elses view. The announcer asked them to move several times, when they stayed people in the stands started throwing beer cans, some still half full!! Well that got them moving!

I'll be bringing smokes along due to the fact that the outlaws have a tendency to put on an aggravating performance when I'm in attendance...In which case, Q's camper will look like an episode of the Marlboro Man vs Cheech and Chong...
