I think a Congratulations is in order to all involved with Arizona Winged Sprint Car racing. You have successfully destroyed yet another good thing. Only 40 registered cars down from 70? If you look closely at the numbers non-wings now have more registered drivers than Winged. This is not surprising to anyone who knows Kevin Montgomery and his agenda to kill winged sprint racing in AZ. With a combination only 20 cars per qualifying night and Canyon Speedways consistant single file track prep, it should be a terribly exciting show knowing everybody makes the A on qualifying night lined up by their pill draw. On a good note, at least they should be able to get the show over at a decent time for once.

I go every year from Texas and cancelled my trip as soon as I saw the car count. Will still be a good show. Alot of people not making the trip this year plus Canyon is not Manzy or evan Tucson for that matter. It is a shame what has happened to this event.

It's a shame the Western World has had to change venues so many times, but Kevin Montgomery at least has the dedication to continue its legacy. 40 cars is better than 0. Thanks Kevin and Crew!

Hopefully BIGFISH tunes in here. I would more than welcome his assessment of this event especially in light of him not having any axe to grind! When it comes to racing he speaks frankly..yet truthfully!

They are unable to run broadband out to the track, so it will be audio broadcast only on racinboys.

But they will also have DVD's for sale at a later date.

Complaining about 40 cars? Let me know when your winged Sprint counts get down to 14-16 and we'll have something in common. wink

What is your problem, 82 spint cars at one show and you are compliaining, get real Kevin Montgomery is the best thing that ever happened to racing in Arizona. Think about it, if he wasn't involved what would we have? Let me help you, nothing no racing period, this guy is to be complemented on his hard work and good shows.

First of all hot rod, Kevin has not destroyed anything, he's preserved by having the only traditional Sprint Car series in the ASCS, what AZ has always been, traditional Sprint Car county. Look at the history of the CRA in Cali and the NMMRA in NM, and you'll find the history of AZ right with both traditional sprint car organizations. The fact is, the Western World, by a lot of pressure being put on Keith Hall, became a non wing show again until Manzy closed. The only 410 winged series in this part of the country, the SCOA struggled for years and it was gone before the corporation (ASCS) came to AZ. So hot rod, the fact is more than a few of us are happy to see the non wing portion of the show growing, and you apparently don't know shit!

Stan I don't think they are complaining about 40 cars . The are complaining because they are only running 20 of them wings on Thursday and 20 on Friday . The same with non wings. The car counts are not the problem . The separation is .they should run all 40 wings and non wings all nights.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Read it again Randy, he's saying Kevin pulls the wings off of sprint cars and he doesn't like it. Ha!

Well Well what do you know, first night at the Western World plagued by single file poor racing conditions. But congratulations to Brady Bacon the class of field last night and expect to see the same tonight in his wingless effort.

WingedMayhem, its unfortunate that people like you feel the need to be so negative on these message boards for so many to read. I hope all the fans, racers, promoters on here realize how ignorant your statements are and that all of your negativity does is hurt the sport that the rest of us actually love so much. It's sad that the moderators even allow this ignorance to remain on this message. I know, I know, freedom of speech. Well, someone owns this message board, and its their freedom to delete this nonsense. You obviously have a personal agenda with Kevin Montgomery. But all your really doing is hurting our sport. Canyon Speedway has had a National USAC Sprint race, a National USAC Midget race, and now a National ASCS Wing race in the last month! They have kept prestigious races such as the hall of Fame Classic and the Western World going. I am sure there isn't a true race fan out there that wouldn't love to have a promoter like Kevin Montgomery promoting in there area! Just out of curiosity, what have you done for our sport? Just read your other post. I worked in the beer booth the last 2 nights, and you would be the first person I have heard say that the racing wasn't good! 84 Sprint Cars at any show is pretty damn good. If you knew anything about actually running a race you would realize that with over $100,000 to pay out this weekend, split up the field and running 3 days is the only possible way to pull off a show of this caliber. The best part is, attendance for all 3 nights is not mandatory! I promoted a Late Model race at Las Vegas several years ago and there were 73 Late Models. last year I promoted a late Model race at Las Vegas and there were 32. Am I killing Late Model racing? Car counts are just a sign of the times. Those of us that truly care about Dirt racing are working as hard as we can, and taking huge risks to keep our sport thriving. ( and yes, hopefully we are making a buck also). Working hard, taking risks, and enjoying what we have seems so much more productive than being negative on a message board! Thank you, Chris Kearns WingedMayhem, If you disagree with any of my comments, I will be selling beer in the beer booth tonight at Canyon Speedway (whatever it takes. lol). Stop by and see me and we can discuss it!

It looks like a few people disagreed with your diagnosis of the situation, there reporting sold out show, standing room only at the track tonight. You know, the internet is a good enough thing, but its things like this that really help move things backward rather than forward when people use the internet to spew there negativity and poor attitudes. I was annoyed all summer long by people complaining about the local track that I went to weekly and pitted and watched the races, people couldn't complain and give there personal uneducated opinion enough both threw word of mouth and internet boards, now the promoter has not renewed the contract saying he doesn't need to put his money into this and be blasted and complained about weekly. Well I would say theres about a 99% chance no one else is gonna lease the track now so thank you to everyone who complained and managed to run another promoter out the door, I'm gonna enjoy driving an hour to go to the races next summer and likely the same people that complained last year will be at another track too finding something else to bitch about.

Bitch about your job not your hobby, or maybe find a new hobby!

I have to say whether you agree or disagree with my statement, I'm glad to see I've provoked such emotion from a few of you. It's actually good to see. I appreciate all of your opinions on my first ever forum post. Not much of a complainer really but when you've been watching something happen consistently for over a decade you eventually get a little frustrated. And believe me this wasn't just aimed at one person it's the whole state of AZ who just can't seem to figure it out. And Chris I would have enjoyed having a beer with you but I was too busy trying to get a car locked into the show, unsuccessfully I might add :-). Its a pretty tough thing to do drawing the back row of every race not to mention the single file racing conditions that I promised. But at the end of the day we just weren't good enough. They did however switch it up for the last night, we went single file rubber down racing instead of heavy single file racing, so all competitors got to burn off at least $1000 in tires. While there was a lot of fans, describing a place as "standing room only" that doesn't have enough grandstands for a little league baseball game is a little over zealous. I've been very fortunate to see a lot of very great races at very great venues with very great promoters, and I just wish all Arizona Sprint Car fans could see it the way that I have. Thank you every one for your time and support of Sprint Car racing.
