Kyle Larson will continue his busy racing schedule in 2012 with a big weekend of competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro and World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Larson heads into the weekend a bit sore after walking away from a violent series of flips in the USAC Sprint feature during the 4-Crown Nationals last Saturday night at Eldora Speedway.

Kyle Larson“I followed a couple cars up to the top getting into (Turn) 1, there was a little bit of a hole, I hit it wrong, and the car started bouncing and got into the fence," Larson said. "It was going to be an easy rollover but as it was doing the first roll, I got hit by Mitch Wissmiller. He had nowhere to go. From there, it started flipping really hard.

“After changing out of my uniform, I noticed that my neck had a big knot on it so I went and got checked out. They said I strained my neck and bruised my knees. Other than that, I'm pretty good, just a little stiff these next few days.”

Larson will spend a couple days in Charlotte, N.C., before making the trip to Pennsylvania to mount his seat into the No. 13 Tom Buch-owned sprint car. After that, he will depart for Dover International Speedway to run the No. 6 Rev Racing Toyota in Friday's K&N Pro Series East American Real TV 150.

"I'm looking forward to Dover," Larson said. "Last year, Darrell Wallace was in the car I'm driving this year. He ended up winning the race. We obviously have a great car we're going there with.”

Larson is coming off his second K&N win of the season, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The victory put him three points out of the championship lead - the closest he’s been to the top of the standings through 11 races this year.

"It's been tight all year long," Larson said. "(Chase) Elliott, he's definitely rallied in a few races, which is great for him and kept him in the points hunt. It's been really tough among the top four this whole year. Hopefully, we can keep inching away at the points lead and be champion after Rockingham."

The top four drivers in the standings are separated by 13 points going into Dover, where series leader Brett Moffitt has the distinction of being the only driver with multiple wins at the track. Corey LaJoie, who Larson beat at New Hampshire, is 12 points out of the lead in third with Elliott in fourth.

Following the checkered flag at Dover, the racing will not stop for Larson.

"I’m going to helicopter over to Williams Grove Speedway as soon as Dover is finished and go run with the Outlaws in the big National Open there that pays $50,000 to win,” said Larson, who has one win and has led 69 laps in eight starts with the Outlaws this season. "It's going to be an exciting weekend."

Along with running for the K&N championship, other NASCAR races for Larson this fall include the Camping World Truck Series events at Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway as he looks to secure a full-time deal for 2013.

"I think we're working on some deals to try and get me a full season next year, but it all depends on sponsorship," said Larson, who is a development driver for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. "Hopefully, we can land a sponsor that wants to be with me for the next year and help me develop my career in stock car racing."

I wish him safe racing...but...it's a shame his family can't afford to buy him a ride! Wink

It's simply a crying shame that his "millionaire/got-more-bucks-than-Bill Gates" family can't afford to buy him a full-time Cup ride... maybe if mom could quit going to the bingo parlors 8 days a week and dad could quit buying his son strippers after every win they could? wink

And - again ... that was SARCASM...

Just wondering how much money it would take to get Kyle Larson in that KKR car for the entire year next year? Can you say, Kyle Larson, World of Outlaws Champion 2013? C'mon mom and dad, break loose with some cash!!

Just kidding of course.

I think Kyle signed on too early with Earnhardt Ganassi... I'm not as confident with them taking a new young driver to the next level.

Chip Ganassi walks around the Cup garage bragging, and rubbing it in to all the other owners that he has Larson and they don't.

Troy Ruttman was 19 in 1949, the first time he ran the 500; and just 22 when he won it 3 years later, was he to young? Hey kids, it was a lot more dangerous then than it is now.

Sprint car career

In May 1949 Troy left California for the AAA Sprint and Championship car circuits of the Midwest. We won three AAA Sprint Car championships over the next three and a half seasons.[2] He competed in 51 midget races, winning 16 and placing in the top three 28 times.[2]

He was injured from a sprint car crash in August 1952, which sidelined Ruttman for one and a half seasons.[2] Ruttman returned in 1954 on a greatly reduced schedule.

Championship car career

He drove in the AAA and USAC Championship Car series, racing in the 1949-1952, 1954, 1956–1957 and 1960-1964 seasons with 58 starts, including the Indianapolis 500 races in 1949-1952, 1954, 1956–1957, and 1960-1964. He finished in the top ten 26 times, with 5 victories and finished runner-up to Chuck Stevenson for the 1952 National Championship

I'm surprised the drivers do not have mouth pieces as they only have one way radios . Also some other type of pads . Maybe knee or elbow ? Whatever parts of there body's that take the most contact . The less wear and tear the longer the career. IMO.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

jerryT...I agree with you.

Wonder how much old Chip would want for someone to buy that contract from him?

For the most part he's just going to get homogenized with the rest of them anyway, and as far as running a Indy car, not a snowballs chance in hell that he'll ever sit in one.

Hey, but it's always good to remember guy's like Ruttman, right?
