Mason was a happy guy! They said it was his forth win a row? I know he won a 410 Chico race then the ASCS race at Placerville and tonight at Calistoga...Does anyone know what the forth race was?

Congrats to Mason on the win, but does Calistoga know what track prep is? It seems like they just show up to collect the money. Dust in wheel packing. Common. Also the score board not working is pretty crappy as well. This place will get one more shot in October for the big money. Screw that up and never again. The place has a ton of history, but you ride on those coat tails for so long.

the track was prepped for for time of the 4:30 mud pack, by the time the officials got it together to have the pit meeting (45 MIN LATE) the track had aired out too long.

Aired out - are you kidding? It was 75 and overcast, not 100 with a baking sun that would have dried out the track. Bottom line, whoever prepped the track should go work the concession stand next time and someone who knows what they are doing should do the track prep!

Really Monhoff? You of all people on here know these guys do the best they can with what they have and bust their asses doing it. If anyone on here has some experience and knowledge on how to improve the situation stand up and be counted. If you don't know who to get in touch with let me know and I will point you in the right direction. Otherwise it's just another post on a message board bitching about something and we all know how far that gets us......

The track prep is a joke. Dan did his job by bringing his car and supplying a top notch driver a ride.

I paid for two adult tickets (took my wife who rarely goes to the races and after the one lane parade, it will probably be a few more years before she'll want to go again) and $15 worth of concessions + parking, so I think I am entitled to say that the track wasn't good. It was a one lane parade with very little passing. I've gone to the races for 30+ years and have seen worse. I'll continue going and will probably even go to the Outlaw show in a few weeks. Sitting next to my wife and I were a husband and wife who had never been to the races before. At the end of the sprints, he asked my wife "is there usually more passing?" He wasn't impressed and didn't sound like he'd be back. Those are the people Calistoga (or any other track) should be worried about when the racing isn't very good. Make it better and those fans will come back or don't give a crap and those fans will probably won't come back.

That track was not properly prepared.

It wasn't cut. There was a speed bump of loose dirt on the inside all the way around the track. Any water that was applied-and it wasn't enough-ran straight down to the bottom. That track was as smooth as a pool table during the "dust packing" session.

I've only seen one track that had worse preparation for a race-and that's because the driveshaft for the pump on the water tank came apart.

Flat out, that track surface sucked. Whomever was in charge of the preparation should be removed from that position.

Big congrats to Mason Moore and the entire family! This team has been on a roll lately and you gotta think having Brian Cannon turning the wrenches is a big part of the teams success. I've followed Cannon for several years now and it's clear to me he will make a team perform better. Pretty sure Mason has won more races the last month than he has in his entire sprint car career but I could be wrong! Keep up the good work boys!

I woulda but I was in Belleville which is a track with an event that has lots of problems none of which is track prep fortunately. I'm not defending any of it but to say that the guys who bust their asses and are paid nothing for it need to go work in the concession area is outta line IMO. I still see nobody on here with any suggestions to make it better sooooo.....

I don't know why this is so hard to figure out? If you want suggestions, here's one, do your job. If you are hired to prepare a track, and the outcome was what we saw that night, you should either demand an explanation as to why, and see if you believe that it will not happen again, OR get somebody else who knows what they are doing! If you own a car, and you know before hand that you will go through lots of tires, put extreme wear on your motor, and car itself, and be part of a sprint car conga line, why come out. And if all of the car owners start feeling the same, what are the spectators coming to watch?, So when you ask for a suggestion, Do what should not be too difficult, just prepare the track. For heavens sake, it has been done before correctly, hasn't it?

Look: I never said the track was perfect and in fact confirmed with one of the top five drivers that it was as bad as you are all saying it was BEFORE I posted anything. What I object to - and I know, like, and respect Curtis (the poster who suggested the track guys go work the concession stand) - was that suggestion. I know the answer in the case of at least one of the people who has posted here but for the rest of you guys: Do you know any members of the track prep crew? Have you ever even met them? Have the slightest clue how many hours they put into preparing that track with the tools they have available to them? Know how much they are paid for their work? (I can answer that one - nothing, nada, zilch). Did it occur to you that any and / or all of them would LOVE to hear anyone's input on how to ensure that race track is prepared perfectly every time? Especially if you have any expertise on the subject? I can answer that one too: Yes. As much as I love the place if that was the first poor racing surface you ever witnessed at Calistoga you must have been there for your first race which is pure sarcasm because I know it's not the case for any of you. The racing surface for the Civil War event IN PARTICULAR has been bitched about for as long as I can remember. Why is that? I sure as hell don't know. I don't have any insight on the topic either other than "don't stop watering the track" but what the hell do I know? While these guys are busting their asses the best they know how long before and long after I'm holding down a bar stool at either the Hydro, the Inn, or Suzies. Therefore my input is irrelevant and therefore generally I keep it to myself. You have constructive criticism? Go for it. You have an opinion on how the track was? Have at it. Suggesting that the current crew take a hike is uncalled for and I will never waver from that point. If they start serving you your next burger at that track who is going to prepare it? None of you have offered to take the keys to the grader or water truck yet and work whatever amount of hours you think it takes. If these guys say to hell with it or someone does decide to send them packing you know what you end up with? People with EVEN LESS experience than they have more than likely because - again - the JOB PAYS NOTHING. Carry on as you wish but if you don't understand my point after this one it's going to require someone with a higher hourly rate and different job title than I bring to the table. See you at the Vermeil......

Very valid points, heres one that needs to be made. If the crew whom prep the track get paid $0.00, and the monies from entrants, crew goes toward purse, the purse money to the entrant is completely used up buying tires that were destroyed from lack of track prep. It seems that the promoter would pay somebody to prep the track as it should be, so the smaller teams don't fear a tire budget issue, and you might get more entrants to show up. I for one think the turnout was poor considering the event and location. So to me, the promoter needs to step up here, and fix this, or he or she will likely be out of this job. I heard one driver at the track complaining load and clear. As far as the workers doing the only thing they know to do, when should a promoter say, lets

go learn how this should be done.
