I'm sure someone will post the actual rules but here is what we have done the past few years with no issues at all. We have used a golf cart with an orange flag sticking out the top and a slow moving vehicle sign on the back. No golf carts on the roads after sundown and you can not drive up and down any of the major highways that go through town. You can only cross them.

Use an orange flag, a slow moving vehicle sign on the back, and stick to side streets. You will be just fine.

He's correct on the golf carts. Maybe someone with ATV knowledge will post for you. I don't think you can have them on city streets at all unless they are street legal. I admit I do not know for sure.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

I believe you need a current liability insurance card also.

You have to have PROOF OF INSURANCE on the cart with you and the driver must have a state issued DRIVERS LICENSE, slow moving vehicle sign, orange bicycle flag.

These are state laws that were enacted a few years ago.

Only sun-up to sun-down (doesn't matter if your cart has lights or not, it's still sun-up to sundown only) and you CANNOT drive these on the Fairgrounds without purchasing a Golf Cart permit this year (this is new).

ATV's (4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, gators, pit carts, 2 seat ATV's) are ILLEGAL on the street, you WILL get a ticket if you drive one of those on the street. Only Golf Carts are allowed per State Law.

You are not allowed to drive them on Highway 14 (you can cross it though), and you CANNOT drive them on sidewalks / city right of way beside roads. This is more for safety than anything.

Vande, do you know what a permit cost to be able to drive on the Fairgrounds? We have a couple friends who camp off of 3 and 4 at the track and it is nice to be able to buzz back and forth. Thanks.

No open containers of alcohol on the golf cart. Its just like a normal car. No booze allowed.

Is the permit for the fairgrounds only needed for the 410 nationals, or anytime? 360 Nationals?

I'd hit the ticket office when you arrive, they may not let you on the grounds in your cart without a permit starting Thursday

I just picked up my permit..

It costs $20, and the registration also require a copy of your insurance policy..

Vande, Heard a rumor that this year you can only cross 14 at one specified intersection? Not sure if true. Also, we have drove our cart at night for years (with lights of course) and never have had a problem. Is this a new rule? We even took a lap after A feature and hung out till late in the pits. Never had a problem going across town in the wee hours of the night.

Don't know about the sticker, I don't have a cart just heard them talking about the permits when I was there Saturday.

As far as the driving at night goes, if you are spotted, they WILL pull you over and issue a ticket. It's Iowa Code regarding the golf carts. lights or no lights they are unlicensed and they have a specific law regarding it's use.

If you haven't been pulled over or gotten a ticket, you're lucky.

As far as crossing Hwy 14 goes, only thing I heard the Police Chief say was on the radio, he only said that you can't drive DOWN Hwy 14, you could only cross it.

I was thinking of bringing a small 50cc honda scooter to get from Marion County Park back and forth to the race track. (easier to haul) What is the Iowa law regarding these, is it the same as golf cart?

I would think if it has lights and a flag on it, It would be just like operating a Moped. Been so long since the Moped Mania years though I can't remember if they require a Motorcycle license or not. I have the golf cart loaded up in the back of the truck right now but am debating on whether to take it back out and avoid any hassles! Called our State Farm Rep and I'm not sure I can even get liability insurance from them. She is suppose to call back tomorrow and let me know but just thinking about saying screw it and throw the bicycles in the truck.
