Never been to Beaver Dam. Is it worth a 7 hour drive to see the Outlaws?

I like Beaver Dam. Good size track for 410 sprint cars. I think it's 3/8 mile high banked but I don't know if it's worth a 7 hour drive unless you are going to catch another night of racing at Wilmot, Angel Park or Cedar Lake.

Based on the racing last weekend in North Dakota..... I would say YES!!!!!!!!!
Plus, always fun to see the WoO drivers take on the locals and the IRA series has a few decent drivers that can run in the top 10.

I was there once 9 years ago for a WoO show and thought it was a pretty good track and a pretty good show.... I wouldn't drive 7 hours to go to a WoO race there however. Hope this helps.

I like Beaver Dam and it is a good track to see the outlaws. There is a USAC Midget show the next night at Sun Prairie which then makes it a great weekend. As for the drive, guess it just depends on how bad you want to see a race! Good luck.

Nice track and facility .Have seen plenty of great racing over the years there. 7 hrs is a long haul . done it my self though. Nice to see some different tracks. Do stay and hit angell Park down the road in Sun Prairie Sunday for usac/badger midgets. One of the best midget tracks in the country.

Nice joint, if the track is prepped well you will see a good race! Many years ago I watched Steve and Sammy trade sliders at both ends of the track for about 6 or 7 laps in the single best duel I ever saw them have. Even managed to take a photo that was the most significant of the tens of thousands I ever took, nice memories.....

Mike, That particular photo is ICONIC !!!! One of the greatest of all time open wheel racing photos regardless of who the photographer was. Your classic shot of Steve & Sammy ranks side by side with any of the great Ken Coles B & W photos of A.J. & Parnelli battling in either sprint cars, dirt champ cars or Indy roadsters.
I'm sure your sales of that particular photo are keeping you in the lap of luxury in the great "White North" allowing you to consume only the finest of food and drink. All kidding aside any money you made with that photo was very well earned. Additionally you were always very generous in donating items and photos (including your famous Steve & Sammy one) for the numerous auctions held to support the NSCHoF&M. After we were able to have Steve & Sammy autograph them and installed in a nice frame they always made good $$ to support the NSCHoF&M. Thanks and keep enjoying yourself.

Got a link for the pic? I'd love to see this!
Got our seats for Beaver Dam in the mail today. I will also vouch for it as being a great track for sprint cars when taken care of properly, as well as a nice facility in general. Just need good weather now!

Yes it is. I'm using the money I saved on by not going to USAC midget week to make the trip there. Well worth it.

Thanks to you all for the info. Sounds like we need to make the trip unless the weather is not cooperating. MSPN, how much do you get for an 8 x 10 of the Steve & Sammy pic?

In the mail? You are a nerd. Hope it rains.
As far as a 7 hour drive, HELL NO!! 45 minutes for me and I hardly ever go.
place sucks. No passing unless in lapped traffic. WoO's couldn't pick a worse track to go in Wisconsin. If they had any sense, they'd race at Oshkosh.

Thanks for the kind words Larry. I remember a Hall of Fame auction where Chuck Merrill outbid Earl Gaerte and paid a Thousand for that framed photo. I lived not that far from Earl at the time and I delivered him one a few weeks later, what a nice man he was. I remember hearing about an auction in CA where the drivers serve as waiters and somebody paying $1,500, also back in the 90's.
That photo was very good to me financially, I think I sold around 5,300 in every size you could imagine. More importantly I would like to thank Steve and Sammy for signing them for the fans all those years. I never once heard back from a buyer that they wouldn't sign it and DID hear back hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times that they did sign it. Often people were surprised which proved to me over the years that the Steve and Sammy feud was very much over-rated, they both had a ton of respect for each other even if Steve did get a little peeved at times, lol. Dang, I miss those days, thanks for allowing me to reminisce....

I live in NW WI and it's about a 4 hour drive for me. I have mixed feelings about Beaver Dam. What I like is the facility. Very nicely layed out as far as grandstands, food, parking and so on. The track itself is also nice with pretty decent banking. They seem to get decent support from the IRA guys too and usually have 30-40 cars.
However the part I can't get past is the surface. I think I've been there 4, maybe 5 times and all but once it became a one groove track around the bottom. Not much passing at all. It's a nice drive down there as it's mostly all interstate for me. I'm sure I'll go back, but once every 3 years is about good for me. If I was 7 hours away, I doubt I would go back based on my experience.

I disagree w the assertion that its a one lane track. Anyone that thinks that didn't go to the WoO show the last 2 years, as a few brave souls tore ass, inches from the wall & were absolutely flying. If I had time I'd post video to prove my point. Great red clay, steep, uphill turns, & a top notch facility. Especially the concessions. I only wish it was a half mile, but there's always dodge county just a few miles away for that.
