Is Clint's motor legal or is he a half a second better then the rest of the field that is within one or two tenths of each other?

Yes, it is legal. We just went through a post similiar to this about a month in a half ago about Garners 360. I personally have known the Garners for about 5 years now and these people are nothing but class act people. I have known Al Parker for a better part of 40 years and he is also a class act. With that being said, they dont have to cheat, Clint has plenty of laps around Knoxville and Al Parker builds a fantastic motor. At this time I would have to say Al Parker has done his homework well and has done plenty of R&D to come up with a great motor, also, in MY opinion, these other engine builders are trying to play catch up with the Parker Engines. Just because Al is building a better mouse trap doesnt mean he is cheating. It has always seemed to me that the ones complaining about cheating aren't legal themselves and wonder why they are getting beat. Stop wondering and go talk to your engine builder to see what they can do to get you to go faster.

I guss when his name shows up on this page you can actually worry about it. If you can't beat the outsiders when they come in and take the money it doesn't really matter what you do every week.
do it in the dirt

Surely you can do better than that...
I know WESMAR has a good name, are you a rep or just a effing tool?
Tell us tool? Did you open your tool or what?

15.625, thats within 3 tenths of the bulk of the 410s saturday according to the results on knoxville's website, that seems awfully fast for a 360 doesnt it?

This is an interesting subject. The 360's keep getting faster and the 410' s seem to be slower. The 360's carry more weight, have less cubes, smaller injection, restrictive heads, and a narrower, harder right rear. The only advantage they have versus a 410 is the option to use a dished top wing, but a lot of cars use the flat wing anyway. It is amazing how fast the 360's have gotten.

I don't think they will make this mistake again. Unless its legal that is.

Do they time the 360's before or after the 410s?
According to some people (who dislike the emphasis on TT during the Nationals) the track slows down half a second over the course of timing 50 cars.
Also the bulk of the 410's probably have less money in them than the top 360's do.

The 360's qualify before the 410's, in fact one night last year Garners 360 outqualified the entire field, 360's and 410's because the track slowed down quite a bit by the time the big iron hit the track.

I don't have own one (nor will ever unless I win the lottery) and don't know either company's owner's if they bit me on the ankle...but in talking to drivers at Knoxville over the years, both engine builders seem to have a quality product and their various drivers/owners seem to be VERY happy with both.
WESMAR has been around for years and years and Parker has been around for quite a few themselves and that seems to point to the fact they both must be doing something right.
I know Parker is in downtown Newton and that has to be a good deal for the Knoxville regulars that live in the area (or come here weekly like Garner.)

When did Clint "push off" for TT's? I heard the track was actually starting to slow down a little before he made his spectacular charge! Please advise.
I think it's fun to debate Garner's quick time, but we should probably be discussing cost instead. A new, hard hitting ASCS motor is now north of $35,000.00. WOW!
It took the ASCS guys 10 years to go from entry level to a class now owned by the elite. Watch carefully, because the 305 guys have already surpassed "entry level". The 305 guys have done in 5 years, what the ASCS guys did in 10.

Remember that the 360's also do "group" qualifying.
Pretty easy to have a big disparity in times as Clint may have been the only car to get a "clean" lap by himself. Others may have been dealing with Traffic.
Having said that, Clint runs Al's "house" motor and Al is in the pits weekly to tune it. Most of the other guys in the pits don't have that advantage unless they are running Ostrich out of DesMoines.
Tires also play a big part of the equation when comparing 360 times to 410 times. Drivers, Teams and Fans have been saying for the last 2 years about how "terrible" the Goodyear tires are. It's obvious to me that they are, as it looks like a "killer" 360 motor can compete with the 410's on the big 1/2 half mile as far as time trialing goes.
Maybe we'll be back to just "sprint cars" in another 5-10 years as if they'd let the 360s run Hoosier tires against the 410's on Goodyears, they are pretty close to the same speed....
