15.625, thats within 3 tenths of the bulk of the 410s saturday according to the results on knoxville's website, that seems awfully fast for a 360 doesnt it?
|
I'd like to see how fast a 360 C.I. car like Clint's would time if they had the same weight rule as the 410's. The 360's @ Knoxville weigh 75 lbs more than a 410 does.

Obviously Clint's engine is legal within the parameters set by Knoxville Raceway officials. I guess that we have to trust that the officials....after four feature wins, another track championship, and a new blistering track record...that the officials felt no further investigation was needed other than their normal tech process of checking the stacks, pumping it for cubic inches and using their intake port width tool....that Clint's engine is legal to their standards. We all have to accept that.
Don't take that as sour grapes. The only person that has done anything wrong here is me. I haven't done my homework. I haven't worked hard enough. I haven't done a good enough job to compete with what has been laid down as the standard. I have all the respect in the world for Clint Garner, his team and Al Parker. They obviously have done everything right. I saw Clint's qualifying lap and it was perfect. I watched Clint in the feature. From the apex of turns one and two to the exit of turn two he never turned the steering wheel once. They definitely have their sh!t together. More than anything I am jealous that it's not me everyone is whining about!
Until I get my act together and get my work done, I won't be back to Knoxville. Because right now, with the parameters set by Knoxville Raceway officials and the fabulous job done by the 40 team, I can't compete.

Ford97, I think there is a guy racing in the IRA that is running the Parker/Super Shox combo.

ok, MB oh yeah you are and have always been there, and thanks for that!
it does not seem that many years ago when no one wanted to run an AL parker motor even if it were free, but years of hard work and dedication sometimes actually pay off, good for all the team at parker,,
I also remember many year where the kid from dakota could not do any good at knoxville, but yet again, hard work dedication seem to pay off that darn 15 team is good
garner has also been good for many years and getting better

I ask everyone(except MB, he knows this) to consider the fact that for the past 3 seasons Clint and the 40 crew have concentrated all their efforts(time and money) on their Knoxville program. They haven't raced many other places, and I don't think they raced anywhere else in a winged car this year. They have had the same core crew members since they started, which I believe was around 1991. Add to that they have stuck with Parker through the tough times and now have a great builder that is in the pits with them every week to show for it. They stuck with Al, Al stuck with them. It's a recipe for success and I wish them many more years of it.

? can it be that the 410s are overpowering the track and the 360s are set up real nice ? just a thought. also three tenths off the 410 times is still a third of a strait.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

regardless of the difference between his time and the 410s, he was still almost a half of a second faster than the rest of the 360 field, a half a second, that is a lot, and there is plenty of very healthy 360 engines and drivers that should not be a half a second off the pace, no way.

Mark, I have to disagree with you about something.......you for 1 have done your homework and in MY opinion I see that 1M car getting better up there everytime I see it on the track. Heck, if it hadnt been for a few misfortunes on the track this year I could have seen the 1M at the top of the points, as a matter of fact I am pretty sure the 1M team was leading points for quite a while. I am from Nebaska and I travel to Knoxville as much as possible including the weekly shows. I sit with qute a few Knoxville locals and they are always impressed with that 1M car. To be quite honest I would have to say the 1M and the 40 car are pretty much the class of the field. Dont give up Mark, go back to the drawing board and dig a little deeper in that gearhead of yours, there is more there you just have to find it. Take care and hope to see that 1M car back on the black 1/2 mile.

I bet Clint won't be as fast this week. I wonder if Jonn Mccoy turns his head when teching Al's motor since John was a loyal Parker customer when he was settings fast time at Knoxville.lol

Who knows, he might be faster! I would be willing to put some money down that the same motor is in the car as was last weeks. Hell, if you ask me, I dont think its the motors, I think his decals are too thin, thus making air go over them better with less resistance. Have John McCoy tech the thickness of the vinyl decals, thats probably where they are illegal. Now thats some funny shit!

If you dont think Parkers motors have much of a impact with the 40 car,See if Clint will trade with anybody...Just ask Clint about his motor, Also check with Sammy and Kevin about their motors..

First off ... I think you (MB) are a great supporter of sprint cars and their fans, owners and drivers.
Second: Your car and hauler look and are first class.
Third: I think this post was made in haste and in retrospect, I hope you might decide to reconsider your not racing at Knoxville.
Donny Schatz and his dad didn't pack it in and go home when they were getting their azz handed to them (along with EVERY other WoO team) night after night after night by Steve Kinser (and Donny has 5 Nats trophies on his mantle now.)
Iowa State, K.State and K.U. didn't pack it in over the years when Nebraska football in a 25 year stretch went like 71
-4 collectively against the 'little sisters.'
Pit yourself against the 40 car every night you can, then measure your progress (or lack of) and use that input to decide if the ideas you have implemented are positive or negative in relationship to the performance of the 40 car.
I (and others probably on here) wonder what can be 'fudged' (vs. 'parameters') that are not being examined by tech?

I think MB was being a little sarcastic as Humston's Press Release already came out the day before stating that they will be in Knoxville Saturday night (unless something's changed since then).
Clint has been good, but in reality, he hasn't been this DOMINATE force that everyone is complaining about. What I took out of MB's comments were that Clint's car was PERFECT when he was out there Time Trialing, and during the race, as he wasn't "sawing" on the wheel to keep the car under control.
Last time I saw a car like that was when Brooke Tatnell laid down the 14.4 sec lap to set the track record. You don't get too many cars that drive like that, and I;m sure Clint will be the first to admit it.
For the record, MB's driver, IMO has been worth the price of admission by himself the last 2 years.

The engine builders are making a mockery of the ASCS rule book; meanwhile a rookie tech inspector befriends the "elite", rather than looking for new ways to contain costs.
