Thanks for the shout out Mr. Buckley...

Split Show - that nights support classes 3-6 - Intermission 6-7 for track prep - that nights featured classes 7-10.

If you pay for the early show, you are welcome to stay for the late show. (no added fee)

Theory: most people will not sit and watch an event, any event, for 6 hours. (4-10)

Lets fill those stands, get car counts back up and restore our purse. Right now Ventura cannot support the Sprint purse and Midget purse in the same night. Lets change the schedule until it can.

Just some thoughts.

Makes sense to me! When I went a few weeks ago you could hardly see the cars on the back straight the dust was so bad in the heat races! Wont get me back there until that is dealt with! Absolute insanity that the track conditions were so poor! Joe

its a great idea on the outside looking in but when it comes to the track and operating expenses it increases to do that:

more hours for employees and workers (longer days)

ambulance hours up (still have to pay for that hour of track work in between so instead of 6 hours a nights its 10)

track prep work and hours of labor and gas for tractors costs go up

everything has a price its obvious something has to be done to save racing in california but the split days would never happen or work for a track operator cause there costs go up even having more cars and classes it would still cancel out the extra income with the extra expenses

Soo..Joe, you don't like dust. Went to Hanford and couldn't see the cars on the front stretch for all the dust. The wingers came on after the Southewest, they had those garage doors so high they looked like air brakes. Looked pretty scary with no visability. I comend the Southewest 360 guys for having only three yellows.

You would think with all the rain we've had this year that tracks would have more moisture in them, but the truth is that everywhere we've been has been dry slick and sometimes dusty. Mini Gold Cup was very dusty and it rained that week. Calistoga Outlaw show was dusty. Tulare has been very slick but not too dusty and of coarse Hanford is usually dusty. I'm not sure if some of the fairgrounds aren't getting the full water allowance or maybe don't have a big track prep budget? It's been really windy, and it's hard to keep moisture in the track when it's warm and windy.

All I can say is the tracks have been smooth and I agree with Ray....the racers have done a great job and put on some really good shows.

These are some tough times and when you look up in the stands, you can see why a promoter can't pay a guy to water the track for three days leading up the race. We really need to support our local race tracks if we want them to be around as the economy gets better. (Pray it gets better).

Victorville has had no dust with 30-40mph winds for 3 days! Ventura after the heat races spent a half hour ripping the track and watering. Main event the track was awesome! I don't much care about 10, 20 or 30 cars to put on a good show but give those guys that do show up the tools to give the fans a good show! Honestly, the part that upset me most was "We know the tracks junk but we'll work it after the heat races!" Dust is the number one bad experience any new spectator can experience to try to entice them to comeback! This isn't the Baja Sprint Car Association! I haven't been to Santa Maria in 6 years because they forgot what the water truck is for (I hear Chris has a handle on that so I owe them a trip up there) but if its dry slick it'll be another 5-6 years before I go up there again! Joe

If you say you haven't been to Santa Maria in "6 years" because they forgot what the water truck is, I don't know what credibility you have when it comes to track prep. I've never seen a dry slick track at Santa Maria UNTIL Chris Kearns took over.

The bottom line here folks is doing what's best for the racers, car owners, and fans. This is a great and realistic idea. The current method is clearly not working. Who wouldn't want to see a sprint and midget ONLY show twice a month at Ventura? Ventura is a great little dirt track but needs a lot of help in virtually every area. This would be a great way to start.

Speaking as one of the support class car owners, I will all but guarantee that if the support classes were asked to run on a dry slick day time track, at least 1/2 of them would stop showing up, and there goes the revenue to pay the sprint and midget purses.

As a fan, I really liked the days of sprint car shows with no or only 1 support class. That said, one thing I think would work better would be to run the support classes on Friday night, and the sprints/midgets/mods on Saturday. Or if that cannot be done, run it kind of how Perris does, with a support class show on odd Saturdays, and the main event shows on the even weekends (months with a 5th weekend could be for the motorcycle shows). That way you could assure that the support classes get the time to run their races, people who have no interest in watching them do not have to, and it can bring in the revenue to help run the main event show next week.

Of course, the real key is to get a series sponsor to alleviate the costs, and to help bring the cars back to the track, by assuring that the sprint owners get some compensation for getting their car to the track every show. For example the OCRS sprints in Oklahoma (a winged 360 series) pay $1000 to win and $250 to start. They also have a $25000 point fund from Goodyear for using their spec tire. They travel to 11 different tracks in the state of Oklahoma and have been averaging around 33 cars per show, which I think is fantastic in this economy. To be eligible for the point fund, a driver must run at least 75% of the shows during the season.

I am referring to when the original promoter passed away and the kids ran the track! Friggin embarrassing to what happened to a once spectacular track! I honestly don't know what its like now. Like I said, poor track prep leads to very dedicated fans not showing up! JoeJoe

Interesting to see chatter about OCRS on a left coast board. Then again, there are a handful of Okies in Bakersfield. Someone there must be telling our secrets wink

Whats really funny is someone mentioned Goodyear in a thread about Ventura. Goodyear has talked with Ventura before about being a spec tire but several top VRA guys said they'd quit if they had to run GYs. So instead they got their Hoosiers and lost out on a 25k point fund. Wonder if they'd take that back now?

WHEY THE CURRENT METHOD IS NOT WORKING,,, IF VENTURA WOULD NOT PUT UP SHOWS AGAINST THE 410s,, WITCH I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT IS 1 SHOW AT PERRIS ONCE EVERY 4 WEEKS,,,, THAT WOULD OPEN MORE PEOPLE WITH IN THE DRIVING RANGE TO COME TO VENTURA,,, AND MORE PEOPLE TO COME TO PERRIS TO WATCH THE 410s,,,, WHAY DOUBLE BOOK 2 OPEN WHEEL SHOWS ON THE SAME WEEKEND..... VENTURA RUNS A SHOW EVERY WEEKEND WHY CAN'T VENTURA BOOK THERE 360s AND FIDGETS ON THE OFF NIGHTS,,,,, THIS WOULD GIVE MORE OF A CROWD AT VENTURA ON HIS OPEN WHEEL NIGHTS.....[ I'am just sayin] ,,,,,,,,,, ZZ.
