In the newest Flat Out, Bob Jones wrote a very nice article on Knoxville Raceway and asked questions to the big three running the place, Cappy, John McCoy, and Brian Stickel.

It states that Cappy has officially announced his retirement to the Fair Board and that this will be his last year as Race Director.

If and when "Cappy" does retire. Maybe Knoxville won't collaspe in on itself. "Cappy" is running that place into the ground!!! Hope some1 their can get their head out their A$$..Maybe help them 360 boys out. Half the time there show is better than the 410's. Especially with the 410 car counts past couple years..Agree or disagree with me. this is good for knoxville if they have the right guy step in..BAck 2 Glory..maybe.......

I like watching the 360's race but there is no way that the 360 class is propping up the 410 class.

Attendance at 360 only events clearly points out that the 410's are the ones that put buts in the seats.

The 360 purse should NOT increase relative to the 410 purse.

If you want to increase the 360 purse fine but the 410 purse should be increased more.

Well I guess it was going to happen sooner or later. Cappy is an absolute legend. Hope they pick the right person to run the track for the coming years so that I may enjoy my weekly sprint car racing.

A big salute to Cappy, he will be missed. If anything, I say drop the 360's and go to 305's. Without 410's you can forget it.

I have been one of the first people to bash Cappy on alot of things as I have not agreed with some of his decisions. But with that being said he is a legend and deserves all the credit he is getting. He has done as much for sprint car racing as a whole as he has done for Knoxville. I don't always agree, but I am not so stupid to realize the affects he has had on the sport. (though his son may disagree with the stupid part) It will be interesting to see what happens now that Arleta and Cappy will both be gone. I think John McCoy or Terry McCarl would be outstanding choices. They are both former racers and understand the sport inside and out. Congrats Cappy on a great run and the best of luck in retirement. Thanks for all you have done for the greatest sport in the world.

Almost anyone who has ever dealt with Cappy loves the man, I do! Terry needs to stay racing, the sport needs him there as he has still lots to offer. John McCoy would be a great choice, if it happens it will be a smooth transition methinks. Another Knoxville man I respect a ton is Craig Agan who I know is capable as well. Take It Easy....

Whom ever is the replacement ...the 'board' needs to make the right choice ...as the wrong choice might really damage the amazing place Cappy has helped create.

I know one thing for sure ....that guy (forgot name) prior to Stickle was NOT the right choice for that position and hopefully they learned from that fiasco.

The 'board' will not consult this message board for input.... but John McCoy IMHO would be a great choice as he brings a knowledge of so many things outside of just the racing to the plate.

Bob Baker at the NSCHoF certainly would be another good choice as he too brings more to the plate than just racing (and that is going to more important than most of the 'voters' may realize going forward.)

Both of those two have the right personality and knowledge to handle the 10 or more 'hats' you will have to wear as Cappy's replacement.

Agreed on all counts. Cappys done a very good job. In a job like that you'll never please all the people all the time but with Cap you always got a straightforward, calm and thought out answer.

And thats exactly what I'd do with the program. The 360 teams that could afford to could move up, maybe run a LS1. The others could save a little in hopes of making the jump to 410's by running the 305 class with some solid rules in place to keep costs from going where the 360's did. 410 car count has got to be priority!

I find it sad that Cappy is leaving as it is an end of a an era. Good luck Cappy in your retirement.

My guess it that it will be Toby Kruse from Marshalltown....

With the changes over the last 10 years or so, someone with experience with other forms of racing is now needed as well (Late Models, modifieds, etc.) as the big events for those classes are now a majority of the $$$ makers for the raceway outside of the Nationals.

I think John McCoy would be a good choice as well, but you'd then need to back-fill his position in the infield with someone (not sure who that would be at this point from both a fairness and an overall attitude side).

IMO, Brian Stickel is perfect for the position that he is in (Taking care of sponsors, working on promotional ideas/events that put butts in the seats, traveling and promoting the events, advertising, etc.). If he is "promoted" to the Race Director position, it's starting over @ zero with the Marketing position again. (Everyone remembers the predecessors and how good of a job they did don't they?? Oh yea, they didn't do anything to promote the races, just complained if they didn't get a pay raise.)

I have had my differences with Cappi over the years, but I will say that overall he has done a good job for the Raceway. What most fans don't realize is that Cappi is the "face" of the raceway, most of the real decisions when it comes to ticket prices, sanctioning bodies, facility improvements, purse increases, etc. has and always will be decisions made by the Fairboard, not the race director.
