Ya..They support knoxvilles weekly 410 purse..

So you think the 360's bring in a majority of the $$ required to pay the Purse @ Knoxville on regular race nights throughout the season??

2011 Season - 410 Purse is ~$22,000 and the 360 purse is ~$8700 (which is ~40% of what the 410 Purse is).

By my math (at least going off your statement that the 360's Support the 410 purse), that means that for every 10 people in the stands (or pits), that more than 4 have to be there to ONLY watch (or participate as a driver or crewman) the 360 races for them to START to pay for the 410 purse.

As a fan that goes to every race @ Knoxville, I can tell you first hand, when the 410's aren't there, the crowd drops by over 60% for stand alone 360 races. That tells me that the 360's DO NOT support the weekly 410 purse. I also don't see anyone headed for the gates to go home once the 360 feature takes the checkered flag.

BTW - I love the 360's and do think that a majority of the time that they do put on a better show than the 410's. But the fact remains that the fanbase @ Knoxville are die-hard 410 fans. Once fans start turning up for the stand alone 360 events they can constitute raising the purses for the 360's (and 305's).

At Knoxville, the 360 Class is a Support Class. At other venues (Burlington, I-80 in Nebraska, Donnelson (Sprint Invaders)), they are the Headline Class and deserve to get a better purse (the fans at those tracks are paying to see them, not the bombers, hobby stocks, modifieds, etc..

In the newest Flat Out, Bob Jones wrote a very nice article on Knoxville Raceway and asked questions to the big three running the place, Cappy, John McCoy, and Brian Stickel.

It states that Cappy has officially announced his retirement to the Fair Board and that this will be his last year as Race Director.

I would like to THANK Cappy for his many years of service and dedication to the sport. In today's world Knoxville needs a promoter who focus is fan centered. A few t-shirts shot of a cannon is nice but there are so many things you can do for fans that do not cost of ton of money. As a fan, promoter, car sponsor and driver consultant, I hope the fair board does a nation wide search. It is my opinion that promoting from within may not be the best thing. A guy who is technical and can work with teams is essential, but a promoter is different. Ask fans about their favorite show and I lay you odds it is not a weekly show at Knoxville. It is the Kings Royal, the Front Row Challenge or Saturday at the Nationals. Why, because they are made special by the promoter. Why does that not happen at a weekly show? It takes time, planning and people to pull it off. As a person who works for a team selling t-shirts during the Nationals, I don't get the sense that Knoxville gives a hoot once they get their $$$$. How much would it cost or time would it take to come around with a bottle of water and thanks us. We are the reason people come on ground s during the day...dah..Many of us work solo from 8am till race time.

I am sure the annoymous poster will tear me a new one....BUT I don't care. I own my words and would be glad to discuss this with anyonr

Your right Rusty, they only care about the money. Cappy might be the figure head and the fair board be the decision makers. Then why don't we see the fair board members out and about finding out what fans want. No they sit on their stools and take tickets for 3 hrs a week and then go count the money. I think there is several people that would be a good replacement for Cappy but you have to wonder how many guys want to take a job that is that high profile and be hand cuffed by a bunch of guys that don't know 2 shits about what the fans want.

Wow, what a easy fix....Cappy, just bring a case of water to the track at the nationals and drive around passing it out to the vendors and all will be happy.. If you can give them a potty break, that would be nice...

Rusty, because you sell t shirts at the track, and thats why people come to the track during the day,as you say.. How does that benefit the track in any way??? I am sure you pay a vendors fee.. If it doesnt pay or if you dont make money, why do you do it???
