Just wanted to thank the asshole who stole my bike!! What I don't get is that thousands & thousands of us race fans from all over the country go the Knoxville for the week and some jackass finds the need to steal from the people who also show up for the week. I can't prove my theory but the Kville PD called me on Sunday evening stating they recovered my bike a few blocks away from where I was camping and it was in an ally, non of the neighbors recognized it & they brought it down to HQ and it ended up being mine. Oh ya during the week we also lost 2 coolers full adult beverages.

Two in my family and several more that I know of. The police told us that all the ones parked at the church also got it. I would suggest calling the Knoxville PD for the number you need. Our bill was $2,000 for both so your figure sounds about right. Too bad it had to happen.

Interesting post...where in the country do you leave a bike ,unsecured .....same for coolers ..you guys left them in theopen -unlocked .....I got a theory..some drunk derolic used your bike to get back to the room he rented cause he was to lazy to walk,The most telling thing in your story was that ..neighbors found a bike and put out an effort to locate it's owner-they didn't sell it at the pawn shop -they didn't strip it for parts..you were the guest of good honest people of Iowa..hope you behaved well and cleaned up after yourselves

We left stuff out at Knoxville at the track, then at Osky, and back in Knoxville again. I dont think we lost anything.
We do camp on W Larson to the east of the track, had 2-4 vehicles on the street and no problems there either, at least with mine.

they stole my cooler a few years ago - but I figured it was just someone who didn't like me - rather a real criminal!
the hospitality of the folks in Kville is second to none - but the petty thieves are no different there than anywhere else!

Started going to the Nationals in 1978 and lost coolers and everything in them. Found out later they have a thing going there, with high school kids stealing them and they see who can steal the most. Been going on for years. Spread the word for next year.

There is unbridled alcohol consumption and things get stolen and cars get keyed? You're kidding me. Clamp down on the drinking and things will get better. How much support do you think there would be for that idea?

It doesn't have to be that way. They could have had full coolers if they would get behind this http://www.hoseheadforums.com/forum.cfm?ThreadID=46096

Unfortunately I learned the hard way a numbr of years ago that beer coolers and bicycles HAVE to be locked up every night. Sad but true.
I've got a new one for ya'. Peeping Tom's!! Yes, our neighbors had somebody standing on their cooler and looking through the window of their camper. They told me this story after I told them the story of what hapened to my girlfriend and I the previous night. I'll try to keep it brief.
My girlfriend and I were partying at some friends campsite, she left to go back to our camper about ten minutes before I did. When I got to our camper there was a guy standing behind the camper two sites down from ours. He was asking my GF some random questions like "what did you do today"? When I sat down he moved closer and started asking really stupid questions. Then he left. About five minutes later she says to me "don't look now but he is standing over there again". Sure enough he was standing about 20 feet behind us silent as a mouse, staring at us. After about a minute she warns me that he is walking our way. He walks right up to us and says "how about $50, will that do"? I said "for what"? He says as he points to my girlfriend, "for us to have some fun". I could tell by the look on his face that he was serious and by the fact that when I stood up and told him I was going to rip his throat out, he ran like a scared little girl. He got just enough of a head start that I couldn't grab him, probably for the best.
Ladies, you never can be to careful when your alone. It's hard to say what was going through his head, or what he was planning before I got there. And 50 bucks???....cmon!!! That's insulting!

Can't speak for the entire Knoxville PD, but the 3 cops that I tried to get to help me were complete assholes. the whole week i had been parking on the street down from the hall of fame, and on saturday we didnt get there till about noon so i thought it would be worth it to splurge and pay $10 to park, so i paid the guy outside of pizza hut $10 and he asked how fast i wanted to get out after the races and i said well i didnt want to get blocked in, so he sent me over towards the sea food place and told me to park in that grassy area if i could, and if i couldnt to just park in the street. I was in a little car and couldnt hop the curb so i parked in the street kind of in front of jason johnson's rig, (there was 2 other cars in the street right in front of me). i came back to the car to put up seat cushions after the afternoon show was complete, and this cop was standing around and told me i needed to move my car, which i wasnt too upset about this because there were indeed small street signs saying "no parking between the hours of whatever and whatever" but i was a little miffed because when i told him that people had been parking there all week, and thats where the dude at pizza hut i paid $10 to told me to park, the dick cop said "well thats something" your going to have to take up between you and him" and i said "so wait a minute, your a police officer, i am 8 hours from home, i've been scammed for $10, and you want ME to confront the guy about it and you wont help mediate this deal?" and he said "no thats not my problem, I'm not out any money, you're just going to have to deal with it yourself". I even pointed to the guy that took my money, he wasnt but about 25 yards away and this asshole cop still wouldnt assist me in trying to remedy the situation and so biting my tongue so hard it was almost bleeding, i politely said "thanks for nothing" and moved my car. I found 2 more cops and asked them if they would help me and none of them would. Very dissappointing.

Cops were kind to you...they didn't TOW your car that you illegally parked..just ask you to move it.....the cops aren't your personal security force...if the pizza hut guy was 25 yd.s away ..why didn't you act like a man and tell him he told you to park in an illegal area and you wanted your $10 back

If their job isnt to protect the citizens and visitors to their town then what the f*ck is it man? You can bet ur arse that he didnt say anything to all the rigs there that were parked illegally in the same spots. He wouldnt have done anything at all except suck on his thumb if i hadnt come back to my car.
I did go get my money back from the prick that took two seconds of his time away from beating his girlfriend to give my my $10 back, but that wasnt the point. The cop should have assisted me as well as the dude that was abusing his family and causing a scene that the cops just turned a blind eye to

As a kid growing up in Knoxville I have 2 stories.
1) Once when we were about 16 we were walking through the north camp grounds and had a mob of about 12 drunks fuks come at us saying we took there cooler about 5 minutes ago. As all 3 of us had nothing more than the shirts on our backs and nothing in our hands. It was so stupid....considering story number 2
2) as under age kids, in stead of 'cooler hooping' we would just spend 20 minutes, after the races, and the stands semi cleared out. We would just walk the stands and pick up full, un open, 16 oz cans drunks had left behind. Much easier!

Protect you from what..illegally parking..you said there were 'no parking' signs there READ....dereliction of duty is a pretty bold accusation...did you file a report on this officer with the police chief in regards to 'the dude abusing his family' or 'the prick that was beating his girlfiend'
