Great video. I hope Sammy knows what a great show he put on all week and how he's really won over a majority of the crowd. From the Chilli bowl to the Nationals has anyone been more exciting this year?

He should have taken what was left of the tire and gone to the front straight and tossed it into the crowd.

What a great promo vid for Goodyear!

Thanks for the vid Gunner. It sure looks like the tire had plenty of tread left. Neat to hear the crowd chanting Sammy's name.

Ditto, this gave me goose bumps. I actually threw my hat down when I saw this happen...the tire blowing and him flipping, and said a curse word.

Great video and thanks for sharing it!

Look at his right rear tire. He locked up the brakes as he was sliding backward which caused him to roll over. The kicker is that he acted so smug like he wrecked with such grace. Like he had to point at the tire to make his excuse that he lost the race because of someone elses fault and of course he never does anything wrong. He is one piece of work. I gaurantee it that it that had been Kinser, the car would have stayed on all fours, restarted and pick up a few more positions. JMO.

So if you were driving you would just let it back into the wall at 100 mph or more? I didn't think anyone started drinking this early in the day.

gee I heard that the tires were blistered after the first 25 laps, does the track get easier on the tire as it get hotter and more rubber, well no perhaps he should have changed his set-up a bit or went to a harder tire, but no he gambled and lost.

That is just what we always expect sammy to do, he pushed his cars as hard or harder than anyone and often it shows, was great to see him run so hard and so exciting, sad for him not to get the win, but I am sure that no one knows more than Sammy and would be he knew he would be close to making it,

there always has to be one person that just has to start crap. Sammy raced his ass off and was going to dethrone Schatz before the tire gave out. Everything Sammy did that night was perfect.

If I had to guess the engine being in gear might be what is stopping his wheels from spinning......also as mentioned earlier.....it is a good idea to use your brakes if you are traveling backwards towards the wall at Knoxville. If the wheels were able to spin and he steered down into traffic or into the fence there would have been much more damage than a top wing thats for sure.

Awesome video! Great job!

As soon as I heard about "the tire", 3 thoughts came to mind.

1. 50 laps = no Sammy win. 40 laps = Sammy win. Fan vote. Reminds one of the Cup champ formula changing and how the new format changes who won most often.

2. Goodyear. The tire had rubber on it, so it appeared. Didn't look like an abused tire although we are obviously seeing a chunk, not the entirety of it. Adds a LOT of credence to complaints that I've in the past disagreed with. Not that Hoosier never failed (ask Joey Saldana if he's ever blown a Hoosier tire while leading... about 5 times)... but that sure looks like proof that Goodyear tires are an issue.

3. Not sure how many more chances Sammy will have for Knoxville Nationals win #2. This had to be as good a chance as a human will ever get. Snakebit doesn't even come close. Absolutely gut-wrenching for him.

I HOPE that the crowd was cheering the effort, could hear them but not sure what was said on the video. I think they were. Amazing.

You're the man, Sammy! Great week!

Yes, the crowd was cheering the effort. When it first happened, there was a collective sigh of disappointment primarily because Schatz was going to be in the lead. The crowd was rooting for Sammy to dethrone Schatz.
