The blistered tires at the red flag were all right rears. You can see Sammy's left rear wasnt worn and had plenty of tread remaining after it came apart. Either he ran over debris or it was a bad tire.

Yes, the crowd was cheering the effort. When it first happened, there was a collective sigh of disappointment primarily because Schatz was going to be in the lead. The crowd was rooting for Sammy to dethrone Schatz.

Great job to Sammy he put on a hell of a show and when schatz thru the sliders on him he crossed back over and made some great moves! my fiance has only been to the nationals twice now and she never had a favorite driver until saturday night and when we tried to find her a Swindell shirt they were sold out! Great job Sammy! and man did the crowd around us go nuts when shaffer passed schatz!
AWESOME RACE!

Great video. I hope Sammy knows what a great show he put on all week and how he's really won over a majority of the crowd. From the Chilli bowl to the Nationals has anyone been more exciting this year?

Everyone needs to put down the Kool Aide. Everyone was excited that someone other than Schatz was going to win. It was more of an anti-Schatz cheer than it was a pro-Sammy cheer. It could have been anyone else in the A main, and they would have gotten the same response.
Sammy is still the same person. He would still put Santa Claus in the wall just for the fun of it.
I will never cheer for Sammy.

He took it down from his Youtube homepage so someone must have asked him to take it down.

I thought that the noise level was the same for the last laps regardless of what was happening.
I was in the pits and heard the big cheer for Sammy. I also heard the smaller cheer against him.

I was atop the press box and from there the crowd was louder when Tim passed Donny for the win than any other time during the night - including the heartwarming chants and cheers for Sammy. The crowd was SO loud that they actually drowned out the engine sound when the 83 passed the 15. It was a remarkable and memorable race all around - just can't wait for next year!

It was like the whole crowd was in the car with him wanting him to win it so bad.
How awesome was his bow to the crowd and them chanting "sammy sammy".
Im sure it looks great on Speed, and other tv, but nothing comes close to what it felt like to be there.

During driver intro's Sammy had the loudest cheer of the night, as the race went on I think he did gain fans because they felt he was the only person that was going to stop Schatz from winning a 5th consecutive nationals. I'm a HUGE Sammy fan, and I know when Shaffer passed Schatz's that was the loudest I was all night just because if Sammy wasn't gonna win I sure as hell didn't want Schatz's to win. As I was walking back to the car I realized I felt like I just was on a game show and I had a chance to win the grand prize, but instead I walked away with the concelation prize of a year supply of rice-a-roni

I would imagine Jason Meyers' team felt the "consolation prize" feeling too with their "best appearing crew" award being the only real thing to show for their 2010 Nationals effort.

Agreed! Of course once someone gets old the crowd becomes easier on them no matter how big of a prick they are. Just last year at the grove Adam Wilt put a clean slider on Slammy going into turn 1 to take the last transfer in the B and Slammy responded by putting him into the wall coming out of 2. This year he ran into Danny Dietrich after the A main apparently because he didn't like being passed by a young guy. When DD went to see what was up he ran to his trailer and hid, typical Slammy. I don't like to see anyone wreck or lose because of a blown tire but I'm not gonna cry a river over this one, just chalk it up to poetic justice.
