True. Outta how many cars tonight?! Less than 5%. So that was 95% good for Goodyear.

I'm interested to know what the compound choices were for those who lost tires (compared to those who did not seemingly have tire issues). I'd also like to get a look at Shaffer's tires...any blistering or other signs of excessive wear?

I don't know how you can blame Goodyear as the teams could have put the harder tire on. According to Hoseheads radio all the guys were running 100's which is the softest compound. They did note at the red flag that Sammy's tires had quite a bit of blistering.

Nice point. Sammy's luck at Knoxville isn't 95% good; can easily blame Sammy's "luck" over goodyear tires.
Feel terrible for Sammy; he did not deserve to finish in that fashion. Guy just can't catch a break at the Nationals... no matter how much faster he is than everyone else.

I agree. If teams gambled on a softer compound then they will have to live with that decision. The bigger issue here is in regards to sprint car racing in general. IMO, winning a sprint car race should not come down to "tire management".

How many Goodyears has Sammy blown now???This is only going to continue with him. Nobody gets a car around the track like Sammy. So get him some Hoosiers.

I've asked this a few times and people gloss over it. Has anyone been running double beadlocks? If you run double and still have problems, then I would say the tires are a little more suspect.

Thats because you've asked a technical question. Most people on here (me included) talk out their ass and really don't know anything about that. I. M. O.

Pardon me? You have a short memory. Sammy ran Goodyear's for years and was sponsored by them for a very long time. Not saying the current version don't have their issues but Sammy was very loyal / supported by Goodyear for a very long time. Shit happens and it seems to happen to Sammy at some point between the waiving of the green and the checkered at the Nationals every year. Not that I have a problem with that :-).....

A beadlock holds the tire on the rim and also keeps the tire from spinning or slipping on the wheel. If the wheel has only one beadlock (which is the norm), the tire can slip on the non-beadlock side and create excessive heat from rubbing against itself. Thus causing a blowout.
Double beadlocks might eliminate another variable while trying to figure out if there's a flaw, cut, or bad luck.
