I just talked with Greg, he is on his way back from seeing Travis in Seattle. Travis walked today!!!!! Nurses assisted him up and supported him as he walked stiff legged with splints, the nursing staff did most of the work I understand, but he was up and struggling through the pain to be moving, walking!!! They sat him back to rest and were going to move him back to his bed---but, oh no, he was determined to "walk" back! And he did just that. He struggled with the pain and sheer determination persevered to be up and moving. He has an incredible spirit and is determined to speed up the recovery process. His condition is still extremely critical, but you would never know it with his spirit and determination. He is a hard charger, his checkered flag is recovery.

Great news, on the update post, its very hard to read with silver writing on blue background. Great new though. Good to hear. Keep Travis in your prayers, he is still going to need them for a full recovery.

I am so sorry--didn't mean to and don't know how I did it--just copied and pasted the email that I sent out to family to save time. I am old too and don't know how to correct it either

Travis is walking, in pain, but walking. He is still set for Friday for his 1st skin grafts and then will have to stay in bed 7 days. Our benefit planning is going good.... this is going to be a long road but it is his ROAD TO RECOVERY!!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and concerns! It means more than you will ever know.

Thanks,

Shauna

Now for our big benefit announcement..................

I am so excited to tell you guys that we will have a REAL film crew at the benefit making a production for Travis so he can see how many people truly care about him. After the benefit, the DVD will be available for purchase with proceeds going to TEAM TRAVIS! I want to send out a thank you to Andrew Kantowski for ma...king this all possible. He is working on getting a couple hours on our local cable network and Travis will be able to watch the benefit "LIVE." Wow....you guys are really out doing yourself.....see his message below!!!

"The studio Producer/Director of "ANGELIKA5" and the Producer/Director of the horror film "JACOB" have both agreed to donate their equipment and time to produce online coverage of the live event, TEAM TRAVIS-RACE TO RECOVERY BENEFIT, August 21, 2010. The two studios also plan on making their production of the event available on DVD for persons unable to attend the event & to raise money outside of the events location."David QuintanaQ Storm Productions

Travis is having surgery Friday on his arms and hands. They are ready before his legs for the surgery. They have shaved his head and Maryanna says he looks like baby girl, Kinsley or Allen Murray, it's hard to tell the difference. Travis is anxious about the Knoxville action, and hoping to get updates--Hoseheads will keep him informed I am sure!!! Racing in on his mind! Before we know it, he will be back at the track! Pray for success and a speedy recovery with this surgery. Thank you to everyone for all you prayers and concern. The family greatly appreciates your support.

Don't forget the upcoming benefit for Travis Aug. 21st. There will be BarBQue chicken, a car show, auctions and fun for all. Check out the benefit details on Facebook. Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock, Tx. Noon on August 21st. Phone number for any other information: 409-457-7929

Friday at 6:00--Travis is out of surgery. It went well--they worked on skin grafts on his hand and arms. His left hand did not need skin and is healing well. He will be on the respirator tonight and will try to take him off Saturday----it was a lengthy surgery and he will be in a lot of pain so they will keep him sedated all evening. The surgeries are successful and he is strong. He will have more surgery maybe next week. Again, thank you, thank you for all you prayers and support.

If you are not at Knoxville---come out to Cowtown tonight and see Travis' car and meet Greg, his Dad, and myself--I am Travis' aunt. We will be there with t-shirts and decals and to thank everyone for their support. Hope to see you there and thank you all personally.

What a day Saturday!--I am sure you read about Cowtown 29 Lap Sprint tactual! Well, Travis did come off the ventilator and heavy sedation after Friday's surgery and was able to congratulate Ramey himself. He was listening to Knoxville when he called---that boy will be back at the track soon! He is racing even if he is in the hospital ICU unit!! Thank you to everyone--your support drives this young man to recovery and to get back out there with his racing family!

When the Rilat's showed up at the track Saturday night at Cowtown, they were all pretty somber, visibly looking like they were just plain "lost;" which is completely understandable given the conditions.

After the feature race and with Greg calling Travis on the phone for him to congratulate Kevin in victory lane and the conversation that broke out, at that point EVERY one of their family members had a smile on their face from ear to ear. I announced to the crowd that whole sequence of events from earlier in the night until that moment and said "race fans, this is what it's all about, the racing family pulled together as a group and helped to put a family struggling really bad to turn the corner and there's no better medicine than that."

And all fans all cheered for the Rilat's in support. Wow, what an emotional night at the track and I hope that this event helps both the emotional and physical healing process to continue...everyone is pulling for you Travis, your Cowtown family of teams and fans miss you!

Sorry it's been so long--been out of town. Travis has had a bump in recovery with the skin grafts on his legs, infection had to be cleaned up and some areas required a little patch work. He is a "hard charger" remember and will keep moving forward. I heard that the support in Knoxville had been over whelming. A big thank you from all of us! Big benefit coming up the 21st in Texas City and I will be with Gulf South series the 20 and 21st. Hope to see you then!

Did I forget to mention how awesome Travis' racing family is!! Every where I go, every track, every event--people are so warm and caring and sending their best to Travis. WOW---makes his biological family small compared to his racing family! Thank you, thank you!

I just wanted to say congrats to everyone at nationals....Let me give you a little history....... Travis and I grew up together in our hometown of Texas City, TX. Our Dad's had bait camps on the same fishing area in town. I have known Travis since I can remember. As we got older, we went our seperate ways, I got married hads kids and of course everyone knows Travis just kept on racing. Over the years, I would keep up with Travis through his cousin that married my cousin. Greg and my Dad would hunt together and such......The reason I am telling you all this is because of this:

No one can breaks the bonds or erase the memories that you have of your childhood and growing up. The day I heard Travis had gotten burned, I felt a my heart breaking. In our small town, when something major like this happens to someone it happens to everyone. I don't live in our hometown anymore but I felt I needed to jump into action. I know the Rilats would do the same for my family. I created the facebook page to communicate with our classmates and such. It quickly grew to 1400 people. The love that people showed for Travis was overwhelming. IT wasn't just our town but it was the racing community. I am heading up Travis' benefit that is this coming Saturday August 21. It has been a huge success already but I wanted to share with you something that I just can't describe. I have not ever been around racing and I quickly found out the racing community is truly a FAMILY. People have emailed asking how can they help, where can they donate, they have offered prayers and love and just overwhelming support. I have volunteered for a lot of things but this is by far the highlight. When I started TEAM TRAVIS-RACE TO RECOVERY.....I never knew I would be soooo touched by your racing community. I am a Mom and have boys that play football and baseball. We are a pretty tight group of people but NOTHING like the Racing family! You guys bring tears to my eyes when I think about how quickly everyone jumped into action. I asked for donations and got them, I ask for auction items and got them. AMAZING!!! I just want to say thank you for teaching me that there is still kindness in our world. People have went out of their ways to show they care. I will keep you guys all updated on Travis but for now I just wanted to say I am truly greatful for each and every one of you!!! I am only a family friend, I can only imagine how the family feels about your love! Thank you again soooo much...
