The World of Outlaws had 20 cars sign in at Lakeside in Kans City, KS last night. Just wondering does anybody on here recall a WoO race with fewer cars than this? When was the last time the dash had 50% of the field?!
Hard to beleive the Outlaws were less than 2 hours from the house and I decided against going, and even harder to beleive I dont regret it. I am convinced that the WoO should not attempt to schedule a Sat night race within about 4 hours of Knoxville and expect to get a full field. I went to Eagle a couple of years ago on a Sat night to watch 26 cars (of which 3 or 4 were 360 powered "field fillers"
We have all came to the understanding of why 360 in sprint cars have overtaken the 410, but at what point does the WoO realize that they are not the premiere sprint series anymore? When do they realize that the race fan is not going to spend $32-35 to watch 3 heat races (6 and 7 car heat races keep in mind), a dash and a 20 car A-Main? I know the WoO doenst actually set the admission price the promoter does, but the WoO show cost to the promoter is so high that the gate price has to be in hopes of a profit. With dwindling crowds the price per ticket would have to go up to keep the equation the same! Thanks for all of the years of great sprint car races but as for me and my $ it looks like the ASCS is the show to watch.

The WoO need to schedule more races at tracks with weekly 410's. Run Port Royal, Lincoln, Husets, Fremont, Mercer, Sharon. Why these tracks are missing from the schedule is beyond me? They should run Attica more then once. If they want higher counts, that's all they have to do. Not go schedule a race in 360 country. The WoO have 17 drivers following this year. In this economy, that's impressive, but come on. I don't know what prevents them from avoiding these tracks.

The stands were completely full at both Lakeside at Junction Motor Speedway this weekend. USAC had 20 sprints and 18 midgets at Burlington Saturday. And Knoxville had 24 410's Saturday night.

you want a full field of cars sit at home and watch NASCAR. You can only keep up with so much action at one time anyway. As long as there is good racing who cares? Just my opinion though.

I guess if you are going to attract a huge crowd, then it makes sense to go there, but it just seems weird that they hit these tracks instead of weekly 410 tracks.

Car counts are a little overated these days...a WoO A-main is still worth the price of admission in my opinion...the bottom line for me is are the tracks making money, cause they have to, or this thing is not gonna work for long..and I'm sure lakeside and McCool Junction probably did...but saying the stands were full is kinda misleading,,,,what do these places seat????..with a 20,000 grand sanction fee and a 50,000 purse these tracks better be full or they are not gonna make a dime..plus, was the show "good enough" for the crowd to come back next year with only 20 cars......
Bottom line is this, and this is my opinion only, but when you go to to a tracks that see one 410 sprint car race a year your gonna get a great crowd! I hope this doesn't happen, but I'm afraid it will, in a few years the only 410 weekly racing in the country is gonna be in PA and Ohio....the WoO will still prosper cause you will be the only show in town...I think were in a period of giant re-structuring in the sprint car ranks, be it 360's or whatever....I think someone needs to start a national touring non-wing tour, USAC just doesn't seem to get it....Kasey, Tony..are you listening???.....oh crap, I forgot they are enshrined in the WoO deal...

410's have been struggling for years here in the Central USA for quite a few years. Other than Farmington, Knoxville and Husets, I can't think of any other weekly 410 tracks around. The WoO pulling in a 20 car field in this area these days is actually pretty good. There's a reason that Knoxville has added 305 racing to their program. I could be wrong, but I sense some radical changes coming from Knoxville in the next couple of years if something doesn't change.

And both classes at Burlington had more passing and side by side racing than any WoO show I've seen in years.

I hope this doesnt come to fruition, but, from a financial standpoint, if things don't change, I see Knoxville going to a "specials only" track in the future, like Eldora...they could still have weekly 360's and 305's when they weren't having a special event...but that place could have a huge Late Model event, which they aleready have, a huge Modified event, The 410 Sprint (Nationals), 360 event (360 Nationals) , a Non-Wing National plus a few special USAC and WoO events....different crowds different dollars....

"We don't need no stinking Outlaws" Lincoln promoters. Besides they don't have the Parking for an Outlaw Show or enough seats, and Lincoln does just fine with the Program they have been running.
The last time the Outlaws were There (1998) RAHMER spanked the field.

Funny how the WoO late models get two b-mains when they run in the midwest...

I was at the WOO race at Lakeside, and I felt that I got my money's worth. Having 17 national cars traveling up and dow the highway is a good sign for the WOO. Lakeside does a good job of creating interest in it's specials shows by making them special. This was the only time that Wing sprint cars will be at the track.
While I like the ASCS shows, I do not think that they are a replacement for the WOO. The WOO is still the premiere Wing series. Also, some of the ASCS regional series are having trouble. The Rocky Mountain Series has been cancelled. Last month at US36 Speedway (an hour north of KC), the track had a joint promoted ASCS Midwest/Winged Outlaw Warrior show. This show also had 20 cars. For a 360 show jointly promoted, I was really surprised by the number.
The Outlaws still can produce a buzz that no other series can.

There is a lot of door bangers in the midwest but very few 410 sprint cars. There isn't but one 410 sprint car in Nebraska yet there were 23 (25 cars counting 360's) racing in Junction Motor Speedway last Friday night.

Funny how people comment on a race THAT THEY DID NOT EVEN ATTEND! Just like a previous post, car counts are overated. I would rather so 20 WoO 410's that 40 ASCS cars. The bottom line is when the WoO comes to town, you are seeing the best sprint car drivers in the world. The ASCS and other series are a great ... but not to the level of the WoO.
I wish there were more tracks in PA that would host a WoO show. There is nothing more exciting than to see the locals try to beat the WoO when they come to town. That same can be said for the Ohio, West Coast and Kville races ... the locals have a shot to win. There is no reason why the WoO shouldn't be at Port Royal, Lincoln and other tracks in PA.

The 34 Raceway USAC show was better than the 3 outlaw shows I've been to this year. Deep charges, side by side racing, slider after slider, running through ruts wide open. They did just fine with 20 quality cars per class.
Its about quality, not quantity.

I am with outlaw fan 7_8. I would much rather go to an world of outlaw race where there is 18 to 20 Cars, then go to a nonwing show with 50 or stay home like i did this past saturday nite with nothing on. At least we have racing! Usac show with 20 sprint and 20 midget would be ok to depending on where they are racing.

The USAC show was way more than "OK". If you like sprint cars going real fast go to the WoO shows. You just won't see much passing. At Burlington 2 & 3 wide racing was common. Lots of passing, sideways through the corners, bouncing through the ruts and left fronts off the ground. I go to Knoxville every Saturday but no way I was going to miss non wing sprints & midgets on a high banked 3/8 mile. Racing was far better than any WoO show I've seen at Knoxville in a long time.
