In the pro stock heat Friday night when Reed got into Steve Smith over in turn one I immediately looked over to the pit gate. It looked like Gary (owner of #14) ran over to an official in the golf cart and said something. Then it looked as if about eight or so people all surrounded Gary and some guy in a black shirt came running in and pushed Gary to the ground. Did anyone else see any of this? I was a long ways away so i'm not for sure that's what happened.

If it is what happened then some of you people need to re-evaluate some things. Last I checked, the pro stocks at SFS were not racing for $1 million a night. Are we gonna beat somebody up just because of what goes on at a local dirt track? This is a touchy subject, I know, but when we start threatening people and being violent towards them just because of racing, I think it's a little out of hand. Lets not forget that these guys at the track are fathers, husbands, brothers, etc... There are better ways to handle things.

I have kept out of this since all of this drama has begun and I can't sit idle any longer. There is a lot going on in the pits that other drivers and grandstands are not aware of and posting this reply will either make things worse or shed some light on what we are facing in order to race at the Speedway and finish out the year.

All that you saw is correct, however, there will be the ones that started it say it didn't happen. When you have several pit officials come up to your son and tell him that rumors are going around and to "watch his back"......then something is terribly wrong! As any team can tell you, there is alot of "smack" that goes on at the fence line during the races and everyone has participated in this from time to time so noone is innocent of that. However, "smack" and "ACTIONS" are two completely different things and violence should not be tolerated whether played out or threatened. All of that happened right in front of a track official and policeman that was standing there and nothing was said or done to break up a pending volatile situation. What a fine example it sets when the President of the ORA approaches you with clenched fists in front of witnesses.

There is also a 'bounty' of $500 being offered to whoever takes Steve out whether on the track OR gets the crew provoked into a fight; which would also get him thrown out and take him out of the points battle. It is a real shame that all of this turmoil, by a few, will probably end up terminating this class and then all the Pro Stock Drivers will have to suffer the consequences.

NO DRIVER should have to deal with this in order to finish out the year regardless of what class you are involved in.

Woody, Steve and I want to thank the fans and others who have supported us this year through all of this. It will not matter what we say as the "haters will always hate us", but those are not the people that we race for anyway.

I will sign my name as I am not afraid to let anyone know how proud I am of Steve Smith's accomplishments over the years and will continue to support him in his racing ventures.

Well said Nikki. Hopefully these knuckleheads figure it out before someone gets hurt either on track or in the pits. It's truely an ugly situation for all involved.

By the way. The alleged bounty should be someone to beat him on the track not take him out on the track or provoke stupidity in the pits.

Good luck to you guys the rest of the season.

Very well put. I have seen this many times when someone wins alot. I don't know Steve and I have never got a chance to see him race but I will continue to pick him on my fantasy picks every week. Great job Steve and keep them wins coming. Hope you can come up to Enid for the street stock nationals. Might be the only way to get to meet you and I really think you would make the show.

Thank you Nikki, for letting us know what is really going on in this situation before some of the smack talkers get on here and turn it upside down. We heard some about this in the stands before the races ever started, And I knew that something was going to happen and it did. It is very sad to see that Steve could not be himself and race the feature like I have seen him race in years past. It just makes it bad for people that pay their way in to see a good show and can't because of all of the BS.And if they (track officials) don't get a handle on this somebody is going to get hurt really bad. And it is just not the drama that Steve is going thru the pro stock class it self is getting out of hand. Like was said Friday nite shut the class down untill next season and maybe they all can get it together when they have time to think about it.

My family and I have always been BIG fans of Steve Smith and always will be hold your head up and continue being the great driver that you have always been.

After 50 years of stock car racing it would be a shame to kill the last stock car class out there, seeing how that what made SFS what it is. The problem with SFS {as I see it} they aint professional Drivers. Ya there is a few exceptions but there is alot in "every" class just a soon run over you for the win than come back next week and beat ya. You look at ANY professional race on T V and you see Drivers givin the respect to others that is demanded to have a good race, but at SFS there is drama every week. Last wed there was 4 Mods that finished, WHY. It took over 30 Minutes to run the Champs and every one complains about the 98, Why, A few weeks ago only 4 Pros finished, WHY? Them Drivers need to clean up there act or the officals STILL need to get a grip on things or there might not be any racin at SFS. At least at I-44 there throwing the black flag with out prejudice, maybe cause of the new owners but there trying to control what happens.

Dont let it go to your head Cheese. We can go to some old threads and pull up their issues as well. I refuse to name names but it only takes a couple of bad apples to spoil a whole bunch. My point is with people putting out "Supposed Bountys" what happens to the Drivers thats right behind the incident that gets collected. I've seen this "Bounty Deal" before and hate to think it's rearing it's ugly face again. The black flag is one solution but at SFS it's not used on everybody consistantly. People Make mistakes like Jamon did but most of you Tidbitters saw his response. But others out there drive over their heads when they dont have the fastest car. Lets take you for example, I dont recall you causing near the problems that other sesoned Vets do regularly. Maybe it's your upbringing or lack of funds but you show more class than some that have been racin for years!

Bobcat, I could not agree with you anymore on several points you brought up. First of all "Bountys" on any driver in any class should be immediately brought to the Officials attention before the race starts so they are aware of what to look for, and the "Black Flag" should be readily available.

It's not like we do not hear rummer's in the Pit Area that eventually leads to on Track incidents. I am all about Racing a legall car and driving a clean Race.

I guess Racing has become very political at all tracks I personally as a fan think that there should be something done to those that issue a bounty and start fights I see young 14-15 year olds show more restraint that these grown men making essentially death threats I agree with you as a fan and Mom

ok Bobcat just a question and you are or seem level headed enough to realize this is what it is a question : If the so called BOUNTY is on or off track then Is it not also something that needs to be brought to the OKC Police attention that are at track every weekend because that is also a threat of bodily harm which as far as I read in my legal books in class against the law if it even appears to be carried out?

Also just as a after note I assume that the Bounty issuer and the Bounty ( Steve) are all adults? If so answer me this what kind of example is that setting for our young up and coming 14-15 year olds in this sport?

I assume no one except the few that have pointed out on here realize that If this keeps up I assume from other threads that this will not only be up to Lanny and the family but the State Fair Folks themselves will not be none to happy to have these things associated with their name

You know I will say all The BS going on in the City makes me think that it is not worth mine or families time or money to bring our kids and grandkids to SFS this weekend we teach the grand babies that fighting is inappropriate when soemtimes talking gets alot more accomplished sorry but I hope you all understand My grandkids love to go to pits when they get a chance to go racing and this is not what I nor my kids would like to have them around... So not for Steve but the Bounty issuers think about that where would you be without the fans and young and up and coming fans Please if not for yourselves think about the example you set with young children/ FANS

When the young girls video-taping the Pro Stock races openly flip off the 14 car, are they flipping off Gary or Steve?

Dude, take a deep breath, relax and focus.

It does happen and has. Not alot or frequent but it occurs and not just in this state.

It is called "class" or the lack thereof and about a fourth of the drivers and people in attendance have no class or respect for drivers or fans for that matter. And the funny part about it is that the drivers are the majority of the time not the ones causing all the problems. It is the pit help, car owners or other behind the scenes that cause the problems.
