Dude, take a deep breath, relax and focus.

It does happen and has. Not alot or frequent but it occurs and not just in this state.

It is called "class" or the lack thereof and about a fourth of the drivers and people in attendance have no class or respect for drivers or fans for that matter. And the funny part about it is that the drivers are the majority of the time not the ones causing all the problems. It is the pit help, car owners or other behind the scenes that cause the problems.

I guess in your worldly travels to nebraska and kansas youve got the pulse of the nation,,, come on man this is exactly the blow it off attitude I'm talking about,,, thats bush league,,( insert smiley face here,, i'm also an idiot)

I didn't say blow it off I am saying this isn't the only place where crap like this happens. Siloam Springs even had to have the county sheriff and deputies come out due to a riot at the track last year because of racing and bumping that went on at the track.

Just one example. It is all bullcrap and after awhile drivers and the fans who know what is going on either leave to another track or stop racing all together because it isn't worth it. All for a trophy or a championship that nobody will remember (unless you come to oklahomatidbits.com and click the OKC past champions page as we try to remember those who paved the way for today). Wink

You all know, this is why I have only been to the races only twice this year. I have been going to the races sience 1972 when Jackie Howertown won and I am getting tired of all of this crap at the end of the season. If I was running the track and someone made a threat or started a fight no matter what, would be barred and arrested no questions asked period. It is one thing to defend yourself but to come up to someone and assult them is criminal period. The police and Lanny needs to stop this now.

ok Bobcat just a question and you are or seem level headed enough to realize this is what it is a question : If the so called BOUNTY is on or off track then Is it not also something that needs to be brought to the OKC Police attention that are at track every weekend because that is also a threat of bodily harm which as far as I read in my legal books in class against the law if it even appears to be carried out?

Also just as a after note I assume that the Bounty issuer and the Bounty ( Steve) are all adults? If so answer me this what kind of example is that setting for our young up and coming 14-15 year olds in this sport?

I assume no one except the few that have pointed out on here realize that If this keeps up I assume from other threads that this will not only be up to Lanny and the family but the State Fair Folks themselves will not be none to happy to have these things associated with their name

Ya It could be some type of assult, but I've seen what the hired guns {OKC Police} do when issues happen out there up close and personal. The best thing someone can do if they feel that an assult is getting ready to happen is call in another Police Officer to make the arrest cause the ones out there dont. That was told to me by a Supervisor of the OKC Police Dept. I've been known to even go find the Law Officer before an incident is getting ready to happen and set right next to them during the race and sure enough the incident happened and I asked him to follow me to the pits to no avail. I found myself surrounded by at least 8 to 10 people but no Officer. I guess I've been surrounded by 3 or 4 lynch mobs before some my fault for getting out of character and some not my fault because the Police at the track wont make an arrest or the officals wont settle an issue before it happens.

SFS needs to get an UN-BIAS attitude about situation, not look at whos involved but look at whats happening. This has been going on even before Lanny, Bruce was even thought to have his favorates.

if youre talking about west siloam springs I was just wondering,, is that in oklahoma?? this is most defintely not an attack on you or anyone else for that matter,,, I've been a part of a lot of races from WoO to nascar and youre right this crap does happen everywhere,, the difference is elsewhere it is not in any way shape or form tolerated.... here it seems to be a rite of passage and yes the rest of the country believes that and thats sad because the majority of people here are not like that,,,

I should reword it as "has" happened at other tracks in different areas but not currently or frequent.

The hate and discontent goes as far back as the Dromburgers/Buntins/Dentons and the Neighbors/Johnsons of that era, where they even chased each other down the interstate.

While SFS has always been "the place to race" on Friday nights forever and drivers will not travel or race anywhere else for that all illusive track championship, it also has seen its fair share of drama on the tracks, in the stands and in the pits. And that is what is sad.

When I said lack of professional Drivers, I might of said "Sportsmanship" with the same results. It is Motorsports that bring us all here but someone has taken "sport" out of the equasion. Acuzations have been flying on this thread from Bountys to Chearing when someone Wrecks out and that show a lack of sportsmanship in my opinion. I dont know if "any" of these are true but if they are the people should take a second look in the mirror. I've had to do it before and sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 looks before I see what I really dont want to.

ouch. low blow.

lol. I would think Dave's travel's this year could only lend weight to his POV.

I think what Dave is gettin at - in one way or another - is the truth. Which this situation appears to be being driven not so much by the drivers involved - but the cheerleaders around them. By the time info is making it's way to those involved - it's probably been blown up with some crack sprinkled on it, which of course can only worsen any situation (unless you're a crackhead).

I'd like to know of all the info goin' around - how much actually came from the ORA pres. or BMS promoter. I'd like to know just how much of this is from the drivers. I would guess not all of it. You can see this kind of situation all the time - everywhere. Know what I mean? When disparaging remarks might be made and then those glorified cheerleaders around them just RUN with it?

I actually didn't read David's post, but I would think most agree - so much of situations like these are built from perception and word of mouth. Maybe just all of us goin' on about it is fuel to the fire. or maybe we should be careful or we'll have a price placed on our heads. LMAO. couldn't help it. boy I could run with that one - but I'll digress wink

The only thing I know out of all this is - there's a lot of bruised wieners out there because Steve Smith is a cut above the rest. And he aint even my "favorite" driver in that class - Hicks is. I'm just sayin' - cheating or not - the dude is the most accomplished stock car driver out there....

They should just do away with rules in the pro stock class. what do they accomplish anyway but even further bruising of the wiener? wink

I have kept out of this since all of this drama has begun and I can't sit idle any longer. There is a lot going on in the pits that other drivers and grandstands are not aware of and posting this reply will either make things worse or shed some light on what we are facing in order to race at the Speedway and finish out the year.

All that you saw is correct, however, there will be the ones that started it say it didn't happen. When you have several pit officials come up to your son and tell him that rumors are going around and to "watch his back"......then something is terribly wrong! As any team can tell you, there is alot of "smack" that goes on at the fence line during the races and everyone has participated in this from time to time so noone is innocent of that. However, "smack" and "ACTIONS" are two completely different things and violence should not be tolerated whether played out or threatened. All of that happened right in front of a track official and policeman that was standing there and nothing was said or done to break up a pending volatile situation. What a fine example it sets when the President of the ORA approaches you with clenched fists in front of witnesses.

There is also a 'bounty' of $500 being offered to whoever takes Steve out whether on the track OR gets the crew provoked into a fight; which would also get him thrown out and take him out of the points battle. It is a real shame that all of this turmoil, by a few, will probably end up terminating this class and then all the Pro Stock Drivers will have to suffer the consequences.

NO DRIVER should have to deal with this in order to finish out the year regardless of what class you are involved in.

Woody, Steve and I want to thank the fans and others who have supported us this year through all of this. It will not matter what we say as the "haters will always hate us", but those are not the people that we race for anyway.

I will sign my name as I am not afraid to let anyone know how proud I am of Steve Smith's accomplishments over the years and will continue to support him in his racing ventures.

Nikki Smith - Mom

you are right in a way, the situation has gotten out of hand. but if you question all of the people involved, you will more than likly find out that they do not want any harm or hard feeling with steve.

gary is the real issue, and i'm sure you can see that. gary is the one putting the car together with parts that are in question, not steve. in the past there were issues with gary, and steve left. gary has screwed everyone he has ever tried to pair with and there are too many people that know that. so the real issue is not with steve it is with the car owner, steve is a bystander hung in the middle, sorry about that but he and woody both knew how gary was before the season started and hindsight is 20/20, maybe should not have entered into the deal agian.
