They are playing in a Summer league and they lost to the pacers somthing like 95-78. It was all over the sports today.

Had the wron score orginally. Was giving them a better game than what the score said.

Question.... Why are some people (Oklahomans) against the team coming to Okc? (No names mention) I am not a big basketball fan even though I went to 2 Hornets games because I got free tickets, and I am not a big fan of giving rich people tax money to do this but, if you think long term, the money it will bring into the City will let the City taxpayers recoup more of the money plus iit could set us up for more major sports like NASCAR. So we need to be open minded and look what this can lead down the road. This is my 2 CENTS Whoop I am broke.... Cheese Can I borrow 2 cents?... Wait if I took your 2 cents than you couldn't finish your motor... thanks any way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey TB, I am not necessarily against the team coming here, just the way things came about. I am not a huge Gaylord/Bennett or Mathis Brothers fan for one so anything they are for I am against. Guess it has something to do with them on the State Fairgrounds Board of Directors.

I don't live in OKC but I feel they should have done the FORD Center right the first time. I traveled through Tulsa a month or so ago and their arena puts ours to shame and that is looking at it flying by at 60 mph.

I felt this way with the Hornets and low-and-behold I watch religiously on COX 7 every basketball game that was aired. I swore I didn't care but I fell in love with them. I didn't like it when they left and feel rather cheated as I feel these Hornets ARE OKCs team and always will be.

I got spoiled by Bill (nonwingbill) Armstrong as he was nice enough to take me to my first ever NBA preseason game and I loved it (yes the game, not the honeybees only). It was my hopes the tickets would have stayed about the same and the team would stay as that would have been my next hobby. But now I am not so sure how things will work out with these once billionares - now down to millionaires in charge.

I don't hope doom and gloom against the Sonics, which people in Seattle got screwed, I just don't like the powers to be owning the team.

There, those are my little "tidbits" for what it is worth.

T, I am not goto bash you or anything I can see your points. I went to one Hornets game and it did not do anything for me. However, what I did not like, this is just me, is how the powers in the city government rammed this down the throats of the citizens of Okc. They were saying that this will do all these great things for the city etc. Lets start at home and take care of the problems we have first instead of bitting off more than we can chew.

I saw on another board that someones club level seats could be around 1500 for the season. I know that is a bit extreme for most people and if anyone does go it might be only a few games of the season. What will happen after the first year when the newness wears off and this team could be less than 50% as a winning percentage? Is Bennett going to pack his bags for a new town when he cant get a full stadium. I know the Hornets were a lame duck team but after that first year the team had empty seats in the Ford Center.

T, let me ask you a serious question. Do you honestly think that the city would build a NASCAR track in the city area. Shoot they are trying to get rid of the fairgrounds.

By the way I did vote no on the tax back in March.

Well boys I tend to agree with catpuppy & David on this one.I dont like it one bit that Bennet and others will field a team with our tax dollars, reap the benefits ( what there is ) then have loosing seasons.Im calling it quits right here before OKCfan gets on his soapbox and throws three sets of encyclopedias at all of us,you all can thank me later.

I thank God everyday I can function in life just fine & very very seldom drive west of Sooner Rd

After 20+ yrs of making it to work at jobs that it was a necessity to drive on I-40 crosstown w/o having an accident or falling through or getting crushed during the bombing, I consider myself blessed.

I hope the view from the south side of the Ford Center is as pretty as it is looking towards it.

Thanks OKC taxpayers.

NBA magic.

catch it.

I can see everyone's point. I did not like using tax dollors to build Bass Pro when the liitle ma and pop shop was struggling to keep their business but it has been good for the economy face it. And I am not a big fan of the Gaylord's but they6 have the money to make this happen. But it seems we are starting off so negitive by saying the business will already fail lets give it a chance. We will never know if we can support a permnent pro team if we don't aleast give it a chance. And to say "we won't ever get a NASCAR track" who knows. Lets at wait and see. I am not bashing anyone and expect the same. Everyone is entitled to their personal opinion. THIS IS AMERICA

Just a reminder that your beloved Sooners do not receive any tax, campus or student fee support -- entirely self-sustaining.

hey not fair! my encyclopedia's have been abridged lately! lol. I agree and thats why I dont like them coming here - but then again - it is the first and only real pro team to come to OKC so....................

but no matter how you slice it - it is them using our money to foot the bill and then keeping most the profits. sure it brings money into the area - but if anyone thought they ignored the rest of the city to focus on bricktown - you aint seen nothin yet lol. this team sucks balls too. they had the #4 pick and took some no name from UCLA - and Kevin Durant is the star player? yikes............

the city of seattle - at least the people (the taxpayers) were right not to waste the money - they had already wasted it on the Mariners and Seahawks - and most too would prefer MLB and NFL over NBA. but as it is - OKC had none of the above - so for all the average joe's (taxpayers) aint wrong to want it here. i mean for the city it is kind of exciting. even if it is OKC taxpayers who will line the pockets of already wealthy men - you'll still get to watch boring blow out games with ganster rap music during the actual game. exciting indeed.

now is that really encyclopedic smoman? lol.

Maybe if we could get the Bennett's, Cornet's, and Mathis' excited about racing at SFS we would have better turn outs in the Grandstands and Pits alike.

But I guess it ain't cool to have Dirt in your Caviar.

It might actually help if the racers, (all of us), would spread the gospel a little. Larry Hill worked hard to get corporate sponsers to help raise purses. And Bud Carson could work the press like crazy. He used to get Scott Munn to come out for play days & rules meetings, Scott took a real interest in it & did a great job. Some positive enthusiastic press would be a big help.

They lost again today lol. They are 1-2 in summer league ball which is suppose to be for the scrubs. Sorry to bring it up again but I think it is kinda of funny.

Catpuppy, you really need to let it go. We all know that our NBA team is gonna suck for a couple of years but there is hope on the horizon. Well thought out draft picks (I can only hope), trades and free agency can make a crappy team into a contender relatively quickly, just look at the Hornets.

As far as worrying about public money going to the team, what is "going to the team" is a relatively small amount for the practice facility. The majority of the tax extension is going to improvements to the Ford Center. I do agree with our host Dave that the arena should never have been built on the cheap to begin with. I remember going to the Eagles concert in '02, which was like the second or third event there, and thinking we could have done better with the building. But when everything is said and done in a couple of years, the Ford Center will be at the top of its game.

If I remember correctly, Bruton Smith was threatening to move Charlotte Motor Speedway if changes weren't done (with public money) to the roadways around the facility. I'm pretty sure Arlington is helping out Jerry Jones with the new Cowboys' stadium. Public expenditures for the assumed good of the community aren't out of the norm.

I laugh when I read people bitching about NBA ticket prices and "dirt in their caviar". The games aren't only for the wealthy. Have they ever figured how much it costs to attend races throughout the year? Ten bucks for a local show, 15 or 20 for ASCS, 20 or 30 for a pit pass (my preference), 40 for WoO (wouldn't know because I don't give a rip about them anymore). Shoot, I spent well over $600 just to attend the Copper on Dirt at Manzanita this year. Pretty pricey for a two day show condensed into one. Those true racing fans that are at the speedway every Friday and then go to other races in the area on the weekend are shelling out lots of dough through the year. Eighteen and 20 years ago, I was attending 100 events a year. Couldn't do it now. Kinda makes the $380 I paid for my really good nosebleed Hornets tickets or even the $500 or more I expect for the same OKC seats seem like a bargain.

Until you can offer an informed and educated opinion on the subject, rather than just bashing, let's just stick to racing on this forum.

Bill from what I understand from david's post you are a NBA fan. Which is fine with me. More power to you in my regards. I am not a NBA fan as the posts show. As far as what you said in regards to a informed and educated opinion on the subject. Lets bring up what I said about lets finish what we started in the city esp. with MAPS for Kids. I was on a job interview at one of the Okc's public schools science and arts schools. . These kids are the ones that are the best of the best. As I was walking up to the third floor for the interview I happened to see that the stair banister was held to the wall by a master lock.

Lets see pay a bunch of overpriced pre madonna's tens to millions of bucks or make our schools better for our kids. I will leave that up to you to decide which you think is more important . If you what more examples of how this city is falling behind in regards to our kids. I can give you more in regards to schools. Just let me know if you want more examples. Should we even mention about the elementary school that has toxic mold in it. This mold was determined to be toxic by OSHA.

I am all for the city and moving forward but I am not for the city leaving behind what is most important and that is the kids. In my regards they have forgotten what is important and moved on to big and better things in the city's minds. Lets take of our own first.

holy shit nonwingbill ------ you just compared the straight off the streets of muthafunkin compton basketball league -------- to our local dirt track. i am offended.

each dollar spent to attend a dirt track race is the greatest dollars ever spent. case in point - - - those punks int he nba dont really care to put on that good of show - if they did - THEY WOULD ACTUALLY PLAY SOME DEFENSE. the gangSTARS would rather score 42 while going 11-39 from the floor and rely on the refs giving favorable calls on their home floor - then to actually play hard. if you want to see some REAL basketball - go watch the OU basketball teams. or any college basketball. the majority will never play pro - they are out there for the glory and love of the game - and their teammates. of course there exceptions in the gang-stars league - chris paul and guys like that. hell some good veteran the other day - took 16 million less over the next 5 years so that his team could get better players in. maybe the okc team will have guys who are like this. i doubt it.

but as opposed to the greedy ass less than 100% effort gang-stars league ------- our local dirt track racers are out there pouring tens of thousands for less than 3% of what they putting in their cars. while the promoter here insults them in almost everyway possible. they care this much about putting on a show for the paying fans and staying commited to their passion - racing. I'll take 1 OKC area racer against the entire gang-stars league any day of the freakin weak. there is a big difference between paying 10 bucks to see guys who have made every sacrifice in time, money, and effort you could imagine - who will always see a less than 5% return - to a bunch of punk ass thugs who earn tens of millions to ditch 3 years of college and do nothing but shoot the ball ever game - lack of defense means lack of effort. by all damn means - you dont want to get hurt and lose nike endorsements for something so trivial as - PLAYING DEFENSE - do you?

its a joke - the entire league is a joke. it relies on nifty little gift calls from referees in favor of the home team - along with rap music during the game - to even make it entertaining. meanwhile a bunch of punk thugs who skip college and make immediate millions promotes does have adverse effects. like the effect on a few million inner city youths (mostly black). see the NBA instituted this rule to where all players out of high school cant go direct to the nba - instead they go to college for a year. well that fish is out the water now too. some kid out of Compton (of all places lol) - a predicted #1 pick already in 2010 - is going to go play pro ball in europe for that year - gettin 6 figures instead of an education. how is this to looked at and rewarded - nike immediately wants to give him endorsements. they are gonna make this kid a millionaire for basically skippin school to get the dough. and know like 5 other top prospects out of high school are considering the same thing. and what kind of message does this send to all the other poor inner city black kids - - - play ball instead of focusing on an education and who knows - you might just get rewarded with millions one day. what fails to ever get mentioned is they have about a 0.01% chance of ever achieving this. instead when the far fetched dream fades - the nightmarish reality sets in that they do not have any skills to make in the REAL world. does this sound far fetched - never underestimate the power of suggestion - and greed. but i guess its all ok - it will pump money into the local economy...........

the only REAL basketball is college basketball. screw the punk ass gang-stars league - go give that support to those who from top to bottom deserve it - like the OU basketball teams. if they had the support the NBA or the OU football teams get - they would be able to get even better players - that on top keeping a great coach - Capel. they could be a final 4 team instead of a bubble team. but in the end that program does it without the support. they did great last year and with griffins comin back and this Warren kid - the could be big 12 title contenders next year. and O YEAH - i almost forgot to mention - unlike the punk thug gang-stars ---------- THEY PLAY DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow i'm proud of this rant. nothing personal though bill. not at all man - just voicing my thoughts about the nba versus other stuff.

Watching an NBA game is about as boring as watching legend cars race, more excitement to see paint dry.

Cat, wasn't much of an NBA fan until I attended a game or two. It really grew on me. Lots of fun. I don't disagree that improvements are needed in OKC schools. Shoot, teachers need to make a whole more money than they do now.

Fan, the gang, drug, whatever culture is rampant in all sports. PacMan Jones and Michael Vick are fine representatives for the NFL. How 'bout the receiver caught in Arkansas Wednesday cutting coke with a credit card? Bonds, Sosa and McGuire are certainly guys to look up to in MLB. A Rod's affair with Madonna is nice. Shane Hmiel and the Fike boy certainly did auto racing proud with their actions. Many NBA players have charitable foundations that are rarely in the news but do great work. I didn't realize that Peja Stojakavic, Steve Nash, Manu Ginobli, etc., etc., were from Compton. Kinda thought they were from Serbia, Argentina and maybe even Canada. Don't paint with such a broad brush. Have you ever been to Compton? Myself and a buddy ended up lost in Compton after getting fogged-out one night at Ascot. THAT was awesome (lol).

Smoman, that's pretty much how I feel about 93.2% of any race that has the NASCAR name attached to it.

i agree bill. the major pro sports with the out of control money are all screwed up. and it aint ever gonna get any better either. my main bone to pick with pro basketball is the game just sucks because they dont play defense. in college they do - and thats why i'm a big college fan. its ironic because in college football its the other way around. thats why you can run the option in college but not pro. thats what I find exciting in the NFL is watching the safety's and corners and linebackers smash people. runnin a slant route in the nfl is like baptism by fire lol.

the nba has some great players and role models. guys like chris paul among them. they have thugs like the other sports too. but the nba just aint exciting. and i think there was major truth to what that ref said bout the favorable calls. the playoffs offer proof every year. nfl has the same thing with the pass interference calls that half the time do not happen. but they aint as bad. same with MLB - with the steroid situation - i personally think they have no credibility or integrity until they give the season home run record back to Roger Maris. have any of you ever seen the movie "61"? man Maris went through hell over that deal. hos own fans hated him and commissioner too. all wanted ruth to keep the record. he wa sso stressed he was smokin 3 packs a day and his hair fallin out and crap. people were sending death threats and at his home field - yankee stadium - the would throw dangerous shit like chairs at him. he even died with an asterisk next to his name. so to even give bonds, mcguire, or sosa asterisks is an insult. they need to officially strip em and give it back to Maris. this will never happen under Selig. that jackass is like Lanny. he knew they were cheating - and did nothing but profit by it during the mcguire/sosa record chase.

ok thats enough ranting for now. i agree with you bill. not many sports have credibility right now. but the nba just is not fun to watch. there are occasional excpetions - but they are too few and far between. I like tennis - no cheating in tennis. they got that 3-d replay stuff - why cant stick and ball sports use that? because they want to keep the control with the officials thus themselves - donaghy was right - and he wasnt the only one doing stuff wrong. he just got caught and served up.
