Just looking at all the racing going on this weekend makes me wish the Grove would move the Open back about two weeks ,Short Track Nationals ,Freemont 410 Lernerville 410 USAC in Indiana I know its only a few cars that might come and about 10 have a chance to win but it was nice in the days when cars came from everyehere.

I respectfully disagree.....The National Open has always been this time of the year. Although we have had a shorten season this year, ending their season with the Open is perfect in my opinion. Go out with a bang with your biggest show of the year and a reasonable chance of decent weather.

So I've been trying to find it but not having any luck and I'm genuinely just curious, after the $75k to win what does the rest of the payout look like for Saturday night? And how much to start?

We've already had to rope off part of the part of the backstretch camping area for overflow pit parking. We're expecting over 50 cars. Not sure who else you'd like to see, or how many cars. (Also--consider the weather issues we've dealt with at Port Royal when it's been toward the end of October--part of the reason it got moved to next weekend.)

No need to move the open to any other week and as far as the payout probably 12500 for 2nd just a guess but probably a pretty dang close one!

If they were looking at split field qualifying I'd say you'd have a point. But 50-60 cars is plenty for the format the way it is.

National Open weekend has been the same weekend every year, barring rain, forever. Covid or not, a crown jewel doesn't move it's date to avoid weekly programs in hopes of getting a few more cars to tag the C.

While I understand wanting the biggest field possible, the additional cars that you speak of may only add a couple quality cars to the overall program. No matter where you pull additional cars from, the reality is that the Grove is a very unique track that takes experience to even have a chance to make the A main when speaking of the National Open. Why would a driver want to come to an event and have a minimal chance of making the show or even possibly breaking even on the costs? Add to that if you have to travel even a relatively short distance let alone a great distance and now you have no chance of breaking even (even if there was a chance and we know that possibility does not exist). What drivers are you thinking of that are missing that you feel should be in attendance this weekend?

I think this is a case where The National Open doesn't need to move its date as it is pretty much the same date each year, but rather other events need to stop moving their dates. This year is a little bit of an outlier in that regard as people needed to schedule the way they did to get something on the track.
STN used to be mid October if memory serves me correctly. As said in another thread, I think they need to find consistency of keeping a regular date that allows the most 360s to show up. Fremont is typically done prior to this weekend or around this weekend and typically none of their regular drivers would not make the trip to Williams Grove. Yes this year a couple will be at Fremont instead of The Grove but that is more of a product of equipment more so than anything. The other weekly tracks I do not really think any drivers would make the trip even if their home track wasn't racing.

I said basically the same thing in a conversation with a friend earlier. I think I can say with 100% confidence that anyone who decides to race elsewhere, wasn't going to be anywhere close to starting the A-main on either night. Nothing against anyone else but that's just reality. I love Greg Wilson but if I were him, I'd be at Lernerville or Fremont as opposed to Williams Grove. The only car slower than him at the grove is Troy Fraker. He won't get out of the C-main either night but he stands a decent shot of winning at Lernerville and/or Fremont. The National Open needs to keep this date. There's no good reason on earth for them to change it.

30 cars in the A main tonight. Is that 6 provisionals or is there a slightly different format for the event ?
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

There is always talk about the racing/surface at Lincoln and Port Royal. Is it just assumed that things are bad at the Grove? We left before the heats were done. It was 10:00, kids were asleep, and we were bored. Knew someone from the front row would win. We've easily been to 50 races at the grove and only 1 was particularly memorable. Seemed like things really dragged on. They should start earlier if they're going to let so many cars into the show. I don't need to watch a non-qualifiers race.
I'm always stunned to hear people say racing is bad elsewhere. The worst race at Lincoln or Port is better than the best you'll see at the grove. You don't see it either because of all the stuff in the infield. Really no choice but to pack yourself in the grandstand which is a bad idea right now.

If you're uncomfortable being in the grandstands, they have a jumbotron set up outside turns 3&4 that you can see from that part of the infield. It was actually quite nice.

Very cold would not have minded warmer weather. With kids lots of things to bring. Not great racing. Two hours for warm-ups and time trials. REALLY? WHY can't they run two cars at a time?. Port and Lincoln can. Speed up the show. Not a kid friendly show. Had to leave before feature. Won from pole so don't feel we missed anything but kids missed out as they fell asleep. On a cold night cut the crap out and push to get through faster.

I fell asleep while watching on dirtvision. The amount of f-ing around in a WOO race has become ridiculous. 2 freakin hours to do hot laps and time trials? They need to tighten that up. How about having more cars on the track when you do hot laps and quit taking forever to fly the green when they get on the track? People want to see racing not screwing around.

Seems you might have left too soon. 3 lead changes in the Final, incredible field....

The time it takes to run time trials at Williams Grove is not necessarily the World of Outlaws fault. With the layout of the pits they have to stop several times to move cars from the outer pits before they time and after they weigh.
