I don't know what a "spring" car is but I do know Aaron Reutzel is one hell of a "sprint" car driver. He's on fire right now. Not the best track conditions Port as ever had but it didn't take rubber and there were multiple lanes. Can't ask for more than that. The biggest crowd in the history of Port Royal speedway seemed to be entertained. I certainly was. How about Anthony Macri? That kid is coming into his own right before our eyes. He's bad a terrible season until recently. We all knew it was only a matter of time until he put it all together. That was a tough field and the 69K was in the mix for most of the race and wound up 3rd. Not a bad run at all. I'm sure that's a better finish than you ever had.

I don't claim to be close personal friends with Dewease or anything like that. But I have talked to him at the track a number of times over the years, and I have never gotten that vibe when I talked to him.

Been a Dewease fan since he drove the 2D but I like good racing no matter who wins. Reutzel and Macri were fantastic last night. Those 2 were able to ride the thin cushion around the extreme top of 1-2 to perfection in the 2nd 25 laps and drive by the slick track master. Props to them. I don't know how they managed to keep it off the wall. As a fan with no skin in the game, I'd rather see a good race than my favorite driver winning a boring one. Last night was a great show. BTW Lance may be a little bit reserved, but he is anything but smug and arrogant.

LMaybe Moon was holding him back? 39m has been fast lately.

Words of a true race fan right there.
Here’s a test for ya Holden - remember the low, low budget 2D holding off the big dogs at the Grove on a spring Sunday afternoon way back when, until Keith Kaufman caught up to him? I knew that kid a great future that day.
What year was that? 1984 - 1985?

I went to a pre-season car show at the mall one year. One of the teams had a big, hand lettered sign that was done up really nice....except.... It said "Sponsoreses's wanted". I don't recall if they found some new sponsoreses's or not, so it's hard to gauge how effective the sign was.

There's no way to know this for sure but I figure I've seen Lance win probably close to 200 times and never once have I ever heard him do an interview without thanking the fans. Whether it was in front of a packed house at the National Open or in front of 500 of us idiot diehards on a windy 42 degree day at the Lincoln Icebreaker, he always thanks the fans. I've been around him a lot. If he's smug or arrogant, I haven't seen it. He isn't one to take anyone's shit but I've never seen anything like that from him. I first met him as an 8 year old kid getting an autograph and I was around him just this past weekend. He's still the same guy as he was then. I have nothing but good to say about the guy. He's one of my heroes.

Moon's record speaks for itself and he's a proven winner so I don't know if I'd go as far as to blame him. Anthony has been fast all season but he's time and again found trouble and has spent a lot of time hooked to a tow truck. A lot of the wrecks have come when he was running up front well in contention. Some of it was mistakes he made, much of it was mistakes others made that he got caught in but for whatever reason, he's looking like a force to be reckoned with the past few weeks. He seems like a good kid. I'm happy for him.

The part of Dewease always thanking the fans in his Victory Lane interviews is spot on. That was one of the things I noticed about his Victory Lane interviews when he started winning a lot. More than any other driver I can think of, Dewease always does that in his Victory Lane interviews. I have seen that so many times that I now listen to his VL interviews just to see if he will fail to do that. LOL.

I never said no one else did. I just said that he always does always has since I can remember. Most drivers do, especially nowadays but not all of them do every single time.

Lance strikes me as anything but BUT "arrogant & smug"... he's always seemed pretty humble to me
If you want somebody else to win, fine, but you don't have to make up BS personal attacks

You people do know the thanking the fans by drivers is just like a politician thanking you for anything. You say it because you are expected to. Also more than most may think have the same opinion as Wingedspeed of Lance they just don't feel the need to tell the world about every day like he does.

Yeah like all of those people in the sold out crowd this weekend who cheered for him. He had by far the loudest cheers of any driver. There also seemed to be more Dewease shirts than anyone else as well. Seems to me the majority of fans in PA like him. If you think otherwise, you either A) don't go to many races or B) are completely unaware of your surroundings when you do. I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like him. That's just par for the course but he is definitely the most popular driver in the area right now.

I agree that thanking fans is a necessity all driver recognize and do most of the time. However, like a politician you can tell when it is sincere or not. I've only seen a few interviews with him and he always seems to be kind and genuinely thankful and I cant say for sure but I dint think he has ever chopped at another driver in the few I have heard.
Ya, if you dont like him you should probably not feel the need to tell us about it.
And not to derail the thread, but the talk about sprint car attendance dropping...
Willamette and tuscarora set records this past week. Kville was sold out and , was Eldora sold out also. I know they are special shows and weekly attendance may be dropping so maybe promoters need to follow the trend.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I always made the joke that Moon made Rahmer and Rahmer made moon. Truth is, Moon kicked some ass with Stevie Smith when he was in the Hamilton 77 on the WoO tour and Rahmer was already a dominant force in the Lawrence 99 and the Apple 12 before they got together but man, it's hard to find anyone more dominant than they were from the mid 90's through the early 2000's when they were with Al. 12 straight wins at Lincoln in 1998. Most drivers consider 12 wins overall a great season. They won 12 in a row at just one track against tough weekly competition and he started 12th at all the regular shows. There was a WoO win during that streak in which he started 6th and flat out embarrassed them. I believe they finished with 33 total wins that season. Those 2 together were magic. Only fitting that they got back together and did what they did during Fred's retirement year. Fred winning the National Open is still my favorite race I've ever attended. It was surreal sitting there in person watching the laps click away knowing that this kind of thing usually only happens in movies yet it's actually happening for real.
