Same reason pro bowlers don't make as much as pro golfers:  More people watch pro golf.  Some of these supercross events are topping 50,000-60,000 fans.  Not even fair to compare sprint car purses to supercross.  I personally have no interest in bike racing of any kind, but many, many do.  Supercross $$$'s dwarf sprint car $$$'s.

I'd bet fielding a supercross bike is also far less expensive than fielding a sprint car. Hard for me to understand how supercross could be more poular than sprint car racing but that's how it is. Why do so many people enjoy watching golf or soccer? Another mystery of life. To each their own I guess.

Agree.  I know people just nuts about supercross.  I turn it on and I just don't get it.  Soccer?  Any sport that can end in a 0-0 tie and have fans storming the field in celebration...........nuff said.  Golf I kinda get because it is something millions do every week in this country and they can relate to it.  I just can't watch it personally.

50 to 60,000 fans, about average for those big stadium bike events every weekend during their season, remember the age difference in fans.  60% or more of the bike fans are under 20, many under 15, and they beg their parents to take them.  Has always amazed me when I happen onto one on tv and see these stadiums packed.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

Supercross racers don't make crap, not sure what the total purse is for a supercross race ,but I did read a while back it was like 4k to win, the riders make their money thru factory contracts, and manufacture endorsements

I'm a sprint car guy first but if supercross is anywhere close to you it would pay you to go see in person. It's an incredible show in person.

And for another post that said they have no interest in any bike race I'd challenge you to go to a dirt mile race and not say it's a good race. Or watch nust one lap of the Isle of Man TT and say those guys have the biggest sack of anyone in any form of Motorsport.

James Stewart finished in 2nd in points in 2014---and made just a shade over $700,000.  I don't know about everyone else on here, but I am a little shy of that each year.

When I saw purse my thots went to Clide Knipp. Who has the purse for this guys bills? How can he race a full Woo sched winning $300 per night?

I know he is young and thats all I know so these are sincere questions with no hate yat all but....

How does he fund it?

Who owns it? And why do they go the big show so sincerely?

Where is he from and should he have stayed local for another year?

I know anyone can who wants to but seems there should be a bit more success to warrant the investment. Imo

Is he just living the dream for a season while he can or what?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I wonder what Super Cross attendance would be if the course needed to be randomly re-worked and there was an undercard of smaller bikes that crashed constantly and the show stretched out to 4,...5, even 6 hours long on certain nights?

Not only is viewership and attendance reasons, so is participation. There are millions of golfers/hackers out there that think the latest and greatest balls, clubs etc......will improve their games and they are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on product. The golf companies have such a huge customer base they can spend millions to support golf at all levels. Those millions of fans also attract other product companies. In motocross, the bike manufacturers are also vying for a huge customer base waiting to buy their bikes and products. Sprint car racing has to rely on a less direct variety of product producers, national and local to finance the sport at all levels. And, there isn't a single product associated with a sprint car that has a mass appeal to consumers. Motor oil and tires are as close as there is, but with no tire competition in the sport, tire manufacturers don't go after the consumer dollars, either. Professional sprint car racing is starving for sponsorship dollars. That's the primary reason purses are what they are.

Isn't the tow money $500/nite for the platinum members ?  Add that to the purse over the course of 90 shows and it adds up.. yes they are still losing money big time but a new guy starting out likely wouldn't take in that amount in 5 years !!  When they first announced they were gonna run the series last year I said they wouldn't last 3 months, they proved me wrong and have stuck it out and for that I will applaud their efforts.

Good points and well put.

However, I don't believe additional sponsorship dollars would necessarily translate directly to purse dollars--at least not for the WOO.  The purses are driven by how much payout is needed to get "X" amount of cars to show up so stands can be filled to "Y" capacity.  50 cars and 15,000-20,000 people show up for the King's Royal every year.  This is why the purse never goes up.  If the stands are busting at the seams at most WOO events, and enough cars are in the field to put on a full show, you are going to continue to see $6000 and $10,000 to win events.

Just my two cents.
