It seems as though this race has lost some luster on a national level. $25,000 to win, 1 day show. There will be 50+ cars there tonight, and yet, it seems that there is no buzz around the race.
I'll be there, and the place will be jammed packed. Weather looks good. Should be a good night.

The date has always been a challenge, 3 days after the Royal. Also, the Grove is paying 20k to win on Saturday and if memory serves paid a bigger overall purse last year.
I liked the 2 feature format, it made the race stand out more, as is, it's still prestigious but really should be a 2 day weekend show.

I actually started a thread last year re: Prestige of Silver Cup. Most still consider a prestiguous event (as in "second tier" in line with like Ironman, maybe Summer Nats, etc. right below KR, Nats, Natty Open), but you're right never as much buzz. It's because it's a midweek show and it's right after KR. Most people are still "coming down" from the KR high and looking forward to Summer Nats so it gets lost a bit. But the race has a TON of history at a very historic track that the Outlaw drivers love (not to ruffle feathers but most I talk with says it's probably their favorite PA track).
Should be an aweosme night. I'm not sure we'll see 50+ but should be in the mid 40s to maybe upper 40s realm depending on how many OH and Possee guys come. I think they had about 47ish last year which was the most in the last few years...

Silver Cup pays $1,200 to start. Sat of Summer Nats pays $1,000 to start, but I think has a bit more of an overall purse, so you're right. But they're pretty comparable and Silver Cup is a midweek show. So $1,200 to start a midweek show is pretty nice.
The drivers hated the 2 feature format. They just did. I actually don't mind either the (2 ) feature format or the (1) 40 lap feature. It didn't drastically change the experience for me, but you're right at least the 2 feature format was something unique. I think I actually prefer the one feature though truth be told.

HaHa, I do know MANY drivers absolutely did not like the 2 features for various reasons. I do like the 1 feature more and the car count last year reflects that (though too early to tell).
If you're in the Pits swing by Carl Bowser's hauler and look for an ugly looking dude with a bunch of tattoos. Come say hey (and grab an iced tea or two)

To see Larson and Bell together will be worth the trip! I'm just guessing that they should both be there.

No Larson. I'd guess no Bell given Eldora Truck Race is tomorrow.

Don't know if it's true or not but seen on another racing site that Kyle Larson has a tire test for his day job at Dover tomorrow so he isn't running the truck race at Eldora this year. Haven't seen anything on various social media whether he will be at Don Martins Action Track tonight or not. Dover isn't that far of a helo or plane ride to and from Lernerville though.......

No Kyle for the Truck Race tomorrow. Also, no Kyle tonight. Shane Stewart confimred Kyle will NOT be at Lernerville.
Truck Race is likely keeping Rico away from tonight and though I don't think he would have raced it (maybe in the Linder 11n) Bell also won't be at Lernerville (I presume) bc of Truck Race tomorrow.

I made an error. The other site said Kyle was to be tire testing at Darlington.
On Jayski's NASCAR page the Eldora entry list has Bell driving the #4 Kyle Busch Toyota sponsored by Toyota.

Best WoO event I ever witnessed was the Ethanal Classic @ Knoxville. (early 1990's I think) Kinser and Lasoski (in the Sonner 47) ran 1-2 in the first feature (Kinser won), were inverted to the rear of the 2nd feature and finished 1-2 again (Lasoski won the 2nd).
The mid-summer Outlaw show at Knoxville stopped being special when the Outlaw drivers complained and they decided to make the 2nd feature non-points and eventually the event went away alltogether because it was no longer an EVENT, it was "just another race" on the Outlaw schedule.
Drivers can be their own worst enemies. They want bigger shows and bigger purses but complain when someone comes up with an EVENT that gets butts in the seats to pay the purses. Hopefully the Silver Cup doesn't become "just another race"...

The Silver Cup became "another race" when WRG took over Lernerville, dropped the purse and instituted the twin features. The format now is much more in keeping with what it was when it had more prestige.

I'm from central PA and Lernerville is my favorite PA track. Wish Lernerville was in Mechanicsburg and Williams Grove was in Sarver. It would be great if the premier sprint track in the east was a wide, high-banked, racey 4/10 instead of narrow, flat, strung-out, paper clip half-mile.

As far as the prestige of the Silver cup, at least since I've followed more, it seems the tiers are basically
Top Tier: Knoxville Nats, Kings Royal, Natty open are all in tier of their own, the big 3 crown Jewels
Second Tier: Brad Doty Classic, Silver Cup, Gold Cup, Ironman 55 shows similar to these seem to be the next most prestigious races put on.

I think one of the reasons lernerville has the mid week show is if they went Friday, Saturday none of the posse would show up. Grove, Lincoln, Port points racers are not leaving. For the Don Martin memorial to be a tier 1 race, 2 night deal, the purse mite have to go crazy.

Early 90's, wasnt it the Valvoline Classic when they finsihed 1-2 in both races? Im pretty sure it was the Valvoline Classic when Mark Kinser sat out the second race and sat on top of his hauler by the pit gate to watch after they pulled out.

Regardless of the buzz before the event, looks like they have a huge crowd tonight. Good to see the month of money being so popular this year.
