I dont know about todays drivers but Mitch would have loved that wet fast track.
Best racing was watching Rico charge thtough the field and Freddie Rahmer try to stay on the lead lap.
Thanks Lance for ending Freddies string of top tens at eight.( Hope it doesnt cost him the speed week title now third)

With the rain, I knew the track would be a no passing affair. I was glad they got the show in. Atleast the late model race and the fireworks were good. The all night sprint trains were what I expected but I still had fun visiting many friends.

Thought the 69K's run from 6th to P2 in the heat on a no passing track was the hilight of the nite. Especially the last 2 laps!

Must better track and racing that Port Royals skating rink last night! Obviously Mr. Stimely groomed and packed the track for his favorite, Lance. Its time to start to go to Lincoln every Saturday night.

As usual, it was a terrific track surface until they went out and bludgeoned the cushion to death with push trucks. They did go out and water the top before the sprint feature but that was the equivalent of pissing on a forest fire. I love Port but this is starting to get old. They get their track prep spot on every time but then they spend the rest of the night doing whatever they can to ruin it. I don't understand it. It's like spending hours cooking yourself a nice dinner then letting it sit for 3 hours and nuking it in the microwave before you eat it.

Agreed. I knew the track was going to be the way it was but I'm definitely appreciative of the fact that they hung in there and got the show in. With the amount of rain they got on Thursday then again on Friday, they could've easily cancelled but they didn't. Obviously not the best racing but back in the pack, there was a lot of action going on. I've definitely seen worse.

Amazing the amount of complaining on this board about track prep. Seems the majority of comments on here favor dry slick. When it is we get the "skating rink" complaints. Can't please everyone.
Track was the same for everyone last night. 69K class of the field once again. 4th to the lead in 7 laps, then a 6+ second lead by lap 18 caution. Tough break for Jmac, DD, and Rico all with flat tires.
As indicated by other commentors, track on Friday night was dictated by Mother Nature. She has not been a race fan this year for sure!

Sure you can run like that on a track like the Ports with Traction Control and doped up tires.

I hope you're not talking about the 69K team. If so, you couldn't be more full of shit. Go down and talk to them. They'll set you straight.

10 years ago, the track was the same way for a Speedweek show and all I saw was people being upset over it. What's changed? I love all of the improvements they've done and applaud them for it but the surface lately has been junk and in my opinion, the racing has followed suit. It isn't the prep. That part is spot on. It's the "maintenance" they do throughout the night. Last night they had a perfect slick to a curb surface after time trials that was moving up on it's own and what did they do? They went out and drove push trucks around the top until it was harder than concrete. During the heats, all anyone could do was pull the wing back and skate around on ice and that's what we got the rest of the night. You won't find too many people who have spent more time at Port than me. I love the place but I'm not a fanboy nor am I the kind of person who thinks something is good just because other people tell me that it is. If that same race on that same surface had taken place under Tommy Little's watch, people would've been bitching to high heaven. I guess anymore, shiny new facilities are more important to some folks than good racing. And let me repeat I LOVE what they've done with the facility but I just don't care for the kind of racing they have now. Times have changed I suppose.

II had zero problem with the track last night. Lance kicked everyone's ass last night, but there was good hard battling through the pack. Zearfoss, Dietrich, Heimbach, Rico, Cisney, McFadden and others were all over each other. I certainly could complain about it.
Following that, the late models put on a helluva show and I went home a happy customer. I've been told the drivers want the track wide and smooth. There was nothing to complain about last in my opinion.

Your last sentence says it all. Times have changed. You put up a good cushion and every single fast car will be up there running single file and you'll be lucky to see any passing. You have to do something to get the cars off the top these days. Even on last nights dry slick track, there was still a good cushion in 3-4 and some cars were running the top of 1-2. Lance was running the top of 3-4 and through the middle of 1-2. He only moved off those lines to get by slower cars. It seems that it's become damn near impossible for sprint cars to pass on the bottom anymore. Haas passed a couple cars on the bottom in the B-main and Heimbach a couple on the bottom in the A and that was about it, seems like there's no grip down there. The last 10 laps of the feature didn't see much action in the top 5 but prior that there was good side by side multi-groove racing through the pack. I thought it was good show and if you stayed for the LM feature, you saw 3 cars coming off 4 on the last lap fighting for the win, the 2nd place car started 20th... but yeah the track was terrible.

Watch more non-wing racing, it's Indiana Sprint Week, you want to see passing, slide jobs and two or more grooves it's the place to be. SpeedShift TV is the answer, not sure about Terre Haute on Wed. but Bloomington on Friday will be a GREAT show. When Hall of Famer Dave Darland is 3 wide coming to the Checkers for 6th as he was on Saturday night you know how good it can be. Gas City is tonight and people love the place although I was never that big a fan because of the couple of shows I caught there (dust related)..

The one big difference it doesnt matter how much he wins or what he does on the track or they do in the pits the fans all keep on cherring for Lance,if Hodnett did some of the stuff I saw Lance and Wolf do this week the posts would blow up this board.
Shame for Maccri #39 up at Selinsgrove was running a strong second and might have had a shot at Rico when he slowed late in the race. Only second time on the track and first year full time guys like Maccri,Campbell.Zaarfoss and The Rahmers make the future look a littel brighter for Pa. (as lonh as the familys dont run out of money).
Best thing the announcer said all night was were not sure what happened between turns three and four during 305 feature because TRAILERS WERE BLOCKING OUR VIEW.f

Smug and arrogant?? You seem to have quite the hard on for the 69K/Lance team for whatever reason.....
Attempting to be a voice of reason in a world full of
irrationality.
