As usual, it was a terrific track surface until they went out and bludgeoned the cushion to death with push trucks. They did go out and water the top before the sprint feature but that was the equivalent of pissing on a forest fire. I love Port but this is starting to get old. They get their track prep spot on every time but then they spend the rest of the night doing whatever they can to ruin it. I don't understand it. It's like spending hours cooking yourself a nice dinner then letting it sit for 3 hours and nuking it in the microwave before you eat it.

We need to hang out some timeSmile  If there is no cushion, they might as well get a real job.

Everyone should be wearing Davey Brown t shirts.  The mechanics of the way the 69k rides around like an indy car on the bottom is amazing.  The entertainment value of it wasn't great to begin with and has been dwindling since the mid 90's down to basically zero.  Might as well go to Jennerstown and stay clean if that is what excites you.

Your last sentence says it all. Times have changed. You put up a good cushion and every single fast car will be up there running single file and you'll be lucky to see any passing. You have to do something to get the cars off the top these days. Even on last nights dry slick track, there was still a good cushion in 3-4 and some cars were running the top of 1-2. Lance was running the top of 3-4 and through the middle of 1-2. He only moved off those lines to get by slower cars. It seems that it's become damn near impossible for sprint cars to pass on the bottom anymore. Haas passed a couple cars on the bottom in the B-main and Heimbach a couple on the bottom in the A and that was about it, seems like there's no grip down there. The last 10 laps of the feature didn't see much action in the top 5 but prior that there was good side by side multi-groove racing through the pack. I thought it was good show and if you stayed for the LM feature, you saw 3 cars coming off 4 on the last lap fighting for the win, the 2nd place car started 20th... but yeah the track was terrible.

That must be only at Port Royal then because I've seen countless other tracks in person or on video (WoO and All Star highlights on YouTube) with a nice cushion that wasn't obliterated by push trucks with racing that puts almost everything I've seen in the past 2 or 3 years Port Royal to shame. Even as far as Port is concerned, the track surface for the Saturday portion of the Weikert Memorial is one to the few good tracks they've had recently and the racing was awesome. I heard the late models were good this past week but I didn't stay to watch them. They just aren't my bag. Believe me, I've tried to like them but I just can't get into them. It doesn't surprise me though because a track like Port usually is, is right in their wheelhouse. I totally get what you're saying about the cars being locked down but in my experience, as long as a track isn't saturated like Williams Grove was Friday, a nice cushion at the top of the track doesn't hurt a thing and only makes it better. Either way, It's nice to be able to have a conversation like this and disagree with someone without it going south.

I wouldn't talk to them if my life depended on them (Donnie maybe) certainly not smug and arrogant Lance.

Well, that answers the question of whether or not you've ever met Lance. Lance is ANYTHING but smug and arrogant. He's an extremely nice person and first class all the way.

Yo minthess, can't believe I haven't posted this - Larson running Lernerville Silver Cup in 2013 (4 yeara ago, wow!). Goes from 22nd to 2nd. Uses multiple lines but when he got in clean air really pounded the cush to make up distance.  Also nice slider to get Sammy coming to white flag.

Wonder if he'll swing through Silver Cup again this year since it's on a Tuesday.  Paul Silva will be at KR with Rico so maybe he comes East a little bit and meets Kyle to run Lville.

Watch more non-wing racing, it's Indiana Sprint Week, you want to see passing, slide jobs and two or more grooves it's the place to be.  SpeedShift TV is the answer, not sure about Terre Haute on Wed. but Bloomington on Friday will be a GREAT show.  When Hall of Famer Dave Darland is 3 wide coming to the Checkers for 6th as he was on Saturday night you know how good it can be.  Gas City is tonight and people love the place although I was never that big a fan because of the couple of shows I caught there (dust related)..

When I went to Bloomington last month for their Indiana Midget Week show last month, the track was terrible. Huggy pole and if you moved off the bottom, you did so at your own peril. I was really dissappointed. Thankfully the next night at Lawrenceburg, the IMW race was probably the best race I have ever seen in 45+ years of going to the races, in any division. I hope Bloomington has a better surface for whoever is attending this Friday.

I am surprised to hear that about Bloomington, been there at least a dozen times over the years and never seen that.  I will say it's been more than a decade since I have been there but if Mike still has the place it should be good, NEVER seen a bad USAC show there....

Like any track, Lernerville is tremendous with a cushion.  I am envious of the folks that are perfectly happy with close racing even if its tiptoeing with the wing back over the fuel cell.  I am hard to pleaseSmile

Hey MSPN... Mike Miles sold the track in 2012 to an ownership group that was consisted in part by Dan Roberts, who has/had owned a nonwing sprint for years.  I've been there a few times (not since the change in ownership) for nonwing sprint stuff, and the track was as larsonfan described it... dry and follow the leader around the infield tires come feature time.  I've seen videos from there that are amazing... I guess just bad luck on my part!?  I believe the new ownership group has a young kid doing the track prep, and have heard that he nails it most of the time.  I need to go back sometime soon...

Thanks Chilly, I was looking forward to buying the PPV again but will have to think about it now.  It works out to $33 Canadian which I don't care about but I do hear it if I complain about the track to the better half, lol....By the way, Mike Miles was GREAT, he let me put up a ladder in the Grandstand at the far end to shoot them coiming out of turn 2, heck he even lent me the ladder.  Saw a bunch of good races there and will never forget the night Sammy won a W of O Feature and then came right back and won a W of O rain-out Feature minutes later at Steve's hometown track, oops....

Oh yes I have!  I have known him since his early days in micros.  And have also lived and still live in the same area.  Same old same old self.
