Although it wasnt a Speed Week race on Thursday only 18 cars showed up at Susky, Friday the Grove got 28 before the rain hit just wondering what the high and low counts will be for the week. Looks like a real downer after the great Ohio series at least 42 every night so far.
I HOPE I AM WRONG BUT I THINK THE HIGH MAY BE 30-35 AT EITHER PORT OR LINCOLN AND A LOW OF 20 AT SELINSGROVE.
Looks like only four guys racing for the title and Claussen the only outsider for three races now.i

Maybe if they had waited for Ohio spedweek to be over, they may have had more cars. We still have tonight yet to go.

I would take that bet that Selinsgrove will only have 20 Sprinters.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

This will be the tale of speedweek , that it will be up and down as far as car count . Alot of teams can't afford to race all the races . Location , jobs , money, attrition will be factors in who races where , times have changed since years ago when this speedweek was strong but its still great racing .

Not sure I buy in to that .......money, jobs, locations and other excuses. Do the drivers running in the Ohio area have that much more money and different types jobs from the PA drivers? Richer owners? Distances from track to track that much of a difference? Maybe instead, there are simply that many more drivers, cars and teams in the Ohio areas racing. Or maybe the PA tracks won't even quit competeing during their own Speedweeks. Not sure, just asking I guess.

Car counts will be fine. Some tracks will get more than others but they'll all have strong fields. They always do. Money, attrition and all that stuff does factor into the equation but I think more guys just pick and choose because there's so much to pick and choose from in this area. There are just too many races scheduled throughout the year. More weekends than not, there are races within reasonable distance on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Teams just don't feel compelled to race at tracks that they aren't too crazy about and of course, money does factor in but in my opinion, any car count issues we have here come down to too many races and most of those races have purses that are too top heavy and don't pay shit beyond the top 5.

40 cars at Lincoln is an indication that there are similar counts in Ohio and Pa. That was without Matt Campbell and Mark Smith who were running 360's at Selinsgrove, MIA's Ryan Taylor and Steve Buckwalter, and J J Grasso who is pretty much a regular at Lincoln.
Several reasons for higher car counts on average for Ohio Speedweeks IMO. Have to agree with Altman that racing budget plays into the lower average count in Pa. Many teams don't have the engine to run at the Grove for example. There were only 28 in the pits Friday before the rains hit, but 40 the following night at Lincoln. Distance isn't an issue..the two tracks are only 35 minutes apart. Many of the teams that run Lincoln or Port Royal run solely at one or the other, rarely venturing to another track. Likewise with the western Pa teams. Other than Holtgraver and the Steel City Outlaw, very rarely see any western guys run any Pa shows.
I also think Ohio has the geographical advantage over Pa. Aren't some of the teams that ran Ohio based in the mid-west? Veal for example? Don't think you'll see them make the trip over the boarder to Pa. This year the calendar worked out for Abreu and Larson to run Ohio not Pa. Scelszi (sp?) is another driver who probably won't come to Pa.
One other editorial comment...Ohio only has winged 410 and 305. Pa has 410, 305, and 358's. I think you would see more 410's inPa if there was no 358 series.
Some folks are of the opinion high car counts are good and I won't disagree. But, only 24 start the A anyway. As long as you get a quality field, I personally think mid 30 is a good car count. That's enough for 4 heats and a B-main.

Exactly. Also too many motor killing half-miles in PA while OH has all bullrings with the exception of Eldora. All-Star sanction helps OH car counts as well.

You hit the nail on the head. Ohio speedweek is All Star sanctioned, end of story. Pa has no sanctioned races during speedweek. If they did the car counts would be every bit as high as Ohio. When Pa has sanctioned races, whether it is ASCoC or WoO the car counts are outstanding. That is the simple answer.

I have to disagree that sanctioned races bring more cars.
Example 2011 Tuscarora 50 had 46 cars, unsanctioned. 2012 Tuscarora 50 had 45 cars sanctioned. And I should know I raced both nights.
I am glad Pennsylvania speedweek is unsanctioned.

Glad you raced both of those shows. But to say a sanction wouldn't bring more cars is just dumb. Like tonight, Path has 28-29 cars. If it was ASCoC sanctioned that would have brought in another what, 10 cars. I mean come on, it's not rocket science. If Thursday night Port gets 27 cars (because we all know Lincy homers are lapped traffic so they stay home) would the car count not be higher with ASCoC or WoO? Of course it would. Come on dude, common sense here, lol. The point is, comparing Ohio counts against Pa counts is apples to oranges. It's very plain to see......for some.

Sorry to use facts and actual numbers as to prove my point.
If your theory was right was is not every sanctioned race in central pa have between 50 and 60 cars. Again sorry to use numbers as proof.
Gee I am just a racer and understand that sanctioned races do nothing for me as a I don't have a huge budget to do all the trick stuff to my car for time trial sanctioned races. Because just look at the formats and see if you time trial poorly then your night is screwed.

I was disappointed not to see DeWease, Stevie Smith & the Rahmer boys at Path tonite.
I know Lance is running limited schedule, but when you're winning, stay on a roll, right? $7,000 they won at lincoln will pay for lots of tires....
Someone said Rahmer team wasn't running cause Freddy was promoting the event, but so what? Lots of fans would have liked to see them
But Clauson/ Hodnett duel in the A made it all worthwhile....
