Surprised and glad to see the 40 at Lincoln ,off by a few because of addition of Stutts,Dewease,Wagaman  and Macri but the 29 at Path is a sign of things to come first year with Rahmer Productions drew almost 50 now only 29.

Foolish to say sanctioned races dont bring more cars look at the three All Star races in Pa. this year Bedford,Selinsgrove and Port all strong fields .

After 2 races only 18 cars made both shows, by Sunday the count will be under 10 that made all the shows.

Sanctioned races bring more cars because they have a certain amount of guys who run all their races but more importantly, because the purses are good.

Well...that's something you never see on here. Blazer00 stirring shit. If Blazer00 is posting, you know it wil be to bash some racer or create drama.

I was simply asking and stating possible issues....you're the one that lives it out there. I don't like low car counts any better than anyone else. If you were really a Truth Teller then speak it instead of determining who is and isn't bashing. And there is a lot of DRAMA going on right now in sprint car racing all over and shame on you if that doesn't concern you......And it's happening in areas that few thought would ever have some of the problems that have surfaced in the past few years.

Car counts will be fine. Some tracks will get more than others but they'll all have strong fields. They always do. Money, attrition and all that stuff does factor into the equation but I think more guys just pick and choose because there's so much to pick and choose from in this area. There are just too many races scheduled throughout the year. More weekends than not, there are races within reasonable distance on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Teams just don't feel compelled to race at tracks that they aren't too crazy about and of course, money does factor in but in my opinion, any car count issues we have here come down to too many races and most of those races have purses that are too top heavy and don't pay shit beyond the top 5.

Thanks for your explanation......appreciated!

40 cars at Lincoln is an indication that there are similar counts in Ohio and Pa. That was without Matt Campbell and Mark Smith who were running 360's at Selinsgrove, MIA's Ryan Taylor and Steve Buckwalter, and J J Grasso who is pretty much a regular at Lincoln.

Several reasons for higher car counts on average for Ohio Speedweeks IMO. Have to agree with Altman that racing budget plays into the lower average count in Pa. Many teams don't have the engine to run at the Grove for example. There were only 28 in the pits Friday before the rains hit, but 40 the following night at Lincoln. Distance isn't an issue..the two tracks are only 35 minutes apart. Many of the teams that run Lincoln or Port Royal run solely at one or the other, rarely venturing to another track. Likewise with the western Pa teams. Other than Holtgraver and the Steel City Outlaw, very rarely see any western guys run any Pa  shows.

I also think Ohio has the geographical advantage over Pa. Aren't some of the teams that ran Ohio based in the mid-west? Veal for example? Don't think you'll see them make the trip over the boarder to Pa. This year the calendar worked out for Abreu and Larson to run Ohio not Pa. Scelszi (sp?) is another driver who probably won't come to Pa.

One other editorial  comment...Ohio only has winged 410 and 305. Pa has 410, 305, and 358's. I think you would see more 410's inPa if there was no 358 series.

Some folks are of the opinion high car counts are good and I won't disagree. But, only 24 start the A anyway. As long as you get a quality field, I personally think mid 30 is a good car count. That's enough for 4 heats and a B-main.

Thank you, also for your responding to my post/questions! It's easy to get a better understanding as to what is going on elsewhere when facts are brought to light. The problems we're faced with I think stem primarily from one accute fact....we do not have enough race teams.

I think a sanctioned race also adds a little bit more clout. Everybody wants to add a WOO or All-Star win to their resume. All PA speedweek races pay at least as much as an All-Star show and 3-4 of them pay more, plus the point fund is better than OH last I knew.

I have to disagree that sanctioned races bring more cars.

Example 2011 Tuscarora 50 had 46 cars,  unsanctioned.  2012 Tuscarora 50 had 45 cars sanctioned.  And I should know I raced both nights.

I am glad Pennsylvania speedweek is unsanctioned.

You bring up 1 example. Wasn't 2012 the year that the All-Stars only had 2 or 3 cars at the end of the season? I also remember unsanctioned Tuscarora 50's with car counts in the low to mid 30's. The quality is also better as the cars the all-stars bring are much better than the handful of locals that won't show up due to the added competition.

I would take that bet that Selinsgrove will only have 20 Sprinters.

Selinsgrove gets the short end of the stick having the last date. They may get more than 20 but not much more. You never really know though. Some years they've had mid 30's. Cannon is out. We'll see if Stutt's motor lasts all week. Last year Mark Smith went to a 360 show instead. I'll be optomistic and say 24.

I was disappointed not to see DeWease, Stevie Smith & the Rahmer boys at Path tonite.

I know Lance is running limited schedule, but when you're winning, stay on a roll, right? $7,000 they won at lincoln will pay for lots of tires....

Someone said Rahmer team wasn't running cause Freddy was promoting the event, but so what? Lots of fans would have liked to see them

But Clauson/ Hodnett duel in the A made it all worthwhile....

I heard that as well about Rahmer's team not running an event he was promoting.  Don't know if it's true or not.

Stevie was watching from the top row of the grandstand.  Spoke to him briefly.  It was fun watching him win that race convincingly last year just like Hodnett did last night.  Greg was flying through traffic, but he had to, or Clauson was going to win that race.

All good points made here in all these replies . Everyone knows the causes , cures, and why we have the low car counts . It will be picking and choosing as others have said here in running when they can or just running there favorite track as far as Pa Speedweek goes .

Yea, A-Main made the whole nite worthwhile. I kept thinking Clauson would catch Greg stuck behind a lapper sooner or later, but Hodnett was absolutely masterful slicing & dicing thru traffic.

Then when they had the restart with lappers moved back, I thought it was over for Greg, but he got the jump & it was over for Clauson.

I'm more convinced than ever that Hodnett & his team would be Top 5 or better if they ran Outlaws

Won't be able to make any more Speedweek shows, but it will be interesting to see how Clauson does....

Lorain County ISMA had 26 on Friday and 22 on Saturday...plenty of bent parts over the course of the weekend tho...

I'm surprised that they didn't have a few bent ass cheeks as well. The wrecker driver that sat in the infield Saturday for a good 5 minutes while 4 cars sat motionless in turn 3 was one of the most painfull things I've witnessed at a race in several years. An ISMA official had to go over to the truck and yell at the guy to get him rolling.

Lincoln's 40 was impressive considering JJ Grasso, David Quackenbush and Steve Owings were all not there and have been regulars. Tim Glatfelter is still recovering from a concussion as well.

Tim Shaffer should be coming in soon, starting tonight at Grandview (if weather cooperates) as well as Washington's Trey Starks.

29 at Path was a little surprising especially considering Cole Duncan and Aussie Sean Zemunik made the tow from Eldora the night before. But like mentioned, there were no complaints about the racing. And 29 410's really isn't that bad, it just goes to show how spoiled we are.

I didn't have any complaints about total car count either, but was looking forward to seeing top competitors like Lance & Stevie Smith...

Heats weren't so great, A Main was killa, & Micro sprints are probably my favorite support class

I'm really looking forward to Port's Saturday night show, not just because of SW but they also have the Rt. 35(Port/SG) challenge series for SLM's! Love me a good 2 division show! Port and Selinsgrove have a lot of good SLM's. Kudo's to Port for being the only SW track to have topnotch "support" division.

OH has 360's and also a wingless series(BOSS).

My bad...thought they only had wingless 360. Which tracks do the winged 360's run at?

Primarily Limaland, with some additional shows at Waynesfield and Eldora.

Thanx...do the wingless teams bolt on a wing or are there two different distinct groups?
