I know this question will cover a wide geographic but who are some of the drivers you know or remember who have just disappeared, faded off into the sunset and you kind of wonder what ever happened to them? Or if you know what happened to them please chime in. I will start with:

Doran Doty (Knoxville, Midwest), Always liked this guy, Last time I saw him he was tring to come through the front stretch fence at Knoxville and launched a rear tire about 28 rows up into the stands.

and

Mike Brooks (Knoxville, Midwest) Last I remember he was running a Champ race at Knoxville. (Loved watching this guy)

Robbie Nervo and Van Gurley Jr. come to mind. Bobbie Davis Jr. Lee James.

There was a young guy who raced Fremont a few years ago that was highly touted and then he disappeared. Bobby Distal?

There are so many more too....

Loren Langerud, Dustin Lindquist, Mike Sitzman Jr.

Dustin walked away from racing and went back home to Floodwood.  He's raising a family and enjoying the northern Minnesota outdoors.

Jamie Steffy, Will Cramer, Tony Greener, Eric Stambaugh, Len Thompson and Dave Haight. I often wonder whatever happened to them and what they're up to now.

Try Google or FB? My first dirt track hero was Smokey Stover from Staunton, Va., late 50s early 60s Modified racer (the old hotrod coupes).
I not only found a self published book on Shenadoah Valley dirt track racing but am the proud owner of a photo of Smokey & his damn near unbeatable #306...... after wading thru lots of stuff about the cartoon character!

EMMR in Pa. has big library, archives & I'm sure Knoxville HOF has the same. Usually somebody is there to help... often Lynn Paxton himself. Spend an afternoon with knowledgable old timers. One rainout day in Pa. I started talking to Lynn, he ended up leading about 10 of us on a guided tour & sharing cool stories

I asked him about Jan Opperman... he said "Typical California driver"!

There's some names I haven't heard in a while!

I assume you remember Archie and Ed Ergenbright.

who was the driver they called "Longhair"? I think he was from Dakota.

PJ Chesson, I saw him put on quite a performance at the Gold Cup Chili Feed back in the early 2000's.

One of the Chesson's is a competitive triathlete..I don't know if it's PJ or not though I guess, I believe it is.

Mike Brooks was camped directly behind us at Nationals last year, back by the horse corral, in a bad ass motorhome that started life as a greyhound bus. Really cool conversion. He's definetely not racing anymore. What I recall from brief convetsations with him is that he is still involved in the trucking industry but to what extent, I'm not sure. Mostly retired.
