While attending a race at Knoxville recently I handed a guy that looked like Mike Brooks, my race ticket to be scanned. I asked are you Mike Brooks....he said yes. I moved on as there was a line behind me, but I'd assume he's on the fairboard if he's scanning tickets.

I always wondered about what became of the big names of NARC when I was stationed in Northern CA in the mid-late nineties....Tim Green, Steve Kent, Jimmy Sills, Randy Tiner....and some of the 360 guys like Mark Hall, and Scooter Lambert.

Tim Green is retired but has a son who races and he is involved with that I believe.

Steve Kent builds KPC sprint car chassis and has a son who races.

Jimmy Sills is retired.

Randy Tiner dropped off the scene years ago due to personal issues...

Cheers!

I have always been curious on the story on why of Mark Kinser dropped out of the World of Outlaws and racing all together.  Him and Karl were an unstoppable combo in the 90s and early 2000s.  Did he or Karl get burnt out?  I would think Mark could have gotten a ride with another team.  Did his attempts into NASCAR cost him good rides in the WoO?  Mark had a much shorter career compared to a lot of comparable drivers, such as Schatz, but his name is still all over te WoO record books.

Mike Brooks was camped directly behind us at Nationals last year, back by the horse corral, in a bad ass motorhome that started life as a greyhound bus. Really cool conversion. He's definetely not racing anymore. What I recall from brief convetsations with him is that he is still involved in the trucking industry but to what extent, I'm not sure. Mostly retired.

Brooks always had very nice looking cars as did David Hesmer when he had the Country Kitchen car.

I ran into Roger Rager down at North Camp grounds 4-5 years ago at Nationals sitting around a fire pit telling old race stories, It was cool as hell just sitting there listening to him. He was there at the Nationals as a fan only I believe.

Brent Antill, there's another driver that just disappeared... I wonder if he has given it up all together.

Thanks Henry. The NARC/GSC was awesome then, and the civil war series was starting to take off when I left.

Mark suffered a severe head injury in a sprint car crash....I believe it was at Fargo. He raced for a time after that and couldn't continue. Headaches, dizziness, balance and vision problems at speed. He may have even tried a comeback during the opening of the next season but then just fell off the map. My memeory says that the injury was in 2004.....and his career was over in 2005. There has never been much publicity on his injury over the years. At the Nationals back in about 2010 or 2011 there was a special paper edition of Speed Sport News with an extensive interview with Mark. I have it in storage with all my memorabelia and need to dig it out for the exact dates. I do know that in the article Mark stated that he was still having problems with it after all those years. To the point that he might even just suddenly fall off a chair. Another super talent that had a cereer cut way too short. I would place Mark in the top 10 all time pretty easily. But that's just me of course.

Robbie Nervo and Van Gurley Jr. come to mind. Bobbie Davis Jr. Lee James.

There was a young guy who raced Fremont a few years ago that was highly touted and then he disappeared. Bobby Distal?

There are so many more too....

Don't know Bobby Distel personally, but I think he made the A in the BOSS non wing show at Lawrenceburg a few weeks ago.

Sounds eerily similar to what forced Don Kreitz Jr. out of the cockpit. I can only imagine the numbers he could've put up if his career had progressed. Even with it being cut entirely too short, he still ranks among the best all time.

Aaron Berryhill suffered a bad leg injury in an ASCS race at Devils Bowl a few years ago.   There was another driver out there from OKC who was all over the place and couldn't control his car.   That driver lost it in turn four and slid right into the path of Aaron's car and Aaron hit him full speed and then flipped a few times.   It was a very violent wreck and I believe Aaron suffered a compound fracture of the lower leg.   In some ways it was probably similar to Smoke's accident at Osky a few years ago.    I don't believe Aaron has raced again, although I could be mistaken.   I know he had several surgeries on the leg.  I hope he has recovered and would love to see him race again.

I actually met Deuce Turrill at the Nats last year.   He came out to the Doug Wolfgang deal they were having at the NSCHoF on Thursday night.   Deuce's wife is old friends with my cousins.   We're all originally from Memphis.    I believe they said they were living in Indiana somewhere and I don't think Deuce is involve in racing any more, although I did hear him say that he really missed it.

Great thread....

I've been wondering whatever happened to Cameron Dodson?  Seems like he was a rising star.  I do remember some issues with the law or something?  Then he just disappeared.  Anybody know?

Mike Cool passed away a few years back. He was a true outlaw mechanic. Had many good years with Paul McMahan, Kevin Huntley, and was the Knoxville National winning crew chief with Kraig Kinser.

Kevin Huntley officially retired last year after winning a 305 race at Bloomington. He was a very talented driver who along with Frankie Kerr made the All Stars very popular in the 90's.

Remember the "CAHILL" Indy / Sprint Car team? Seems to me Larry Pinager drove the Sprint Car but I'm prolly wrong.

Larry Pinegar is another name I have not heard in a long time.

Randy Smith drove the Cahills sprint car for a while. Donnie Beechler drove the Cahill Indy Car if I remember properly.

Beechler was a master at long races, great in the dirt champ cars.

Jan Opperman won the Nationals in a Cahill Car.

Jessica Zemken temporarily stopped racing last year when she became pregnant. She married Northeast DIRTCar Modified star Stewart Friesen a couple years ago, and Friesen has been driving her Sprint Car even after she gave birth late last year. When Friesen beat the Outlaws at Ohsweken last year, he was quick to credit Zemken's experience with setups from her past races at Ohsweken.

Zemken also started a T-shirt business (One Zee Tees) within the past couple years.
