DD did'nt say anything that he does'nt say all the time. Just speakin the truth and a PA journalist has a problem with it. I've liked the guy since 3 yrs. ago when he was attending a usac race at lincoln that got rained out. DD was ready to climb over the fence to get the fans money back to no avail. It's called "Balls" not everyone has em.

For the 50th time, I have no problem with what Danny Dietrich said. Never uttered anything like that. I simply said that when you go do something like that, there can be consequences and you have to deal with them.

Maybe I missed the part where Jeremy "had a problem with it." He was simply reporting on "the story." It wasn't an op-ed piece. Now if you want to say this isn't a "story" so be it. But the fodder on social media and in the pits seemed to at least suggest there is at least a modicum of a story here. Jeremy said he believes in free speech, but that sometimes (whether it's a driver, track, fan, your neighbor, an employee, your waiter or waitress, the guy at the hardware store, etc.) there are consequences. The story was more on social media's role in sprint car racing (and sports in general as an extension) and the results/consequences that cna come from that. A good follow-up or story down the road would be how social media is creating a positive impact on the sport (which it most certainly is). But this particular article centered on the "power" and "responsibility" that comes with social media.
There's also more than one way to display "balls."

Thank you. It was an opinion column, but you get it.

My only issues with this story is that it really does not state much of anything. First off, the story came about as a result of statements made my Danny about Lincoln Speedway. Yet, what Danny actually said never was mentioned and Lincoln Speedway representative shared aboslutley nothing stating they were even remotely considering doing anything as a result of his quotes.
Second, Kolten suspended a driver or drivers as a result of some things said via social media. Well if the story is reporting on this issue..who said what and what did Susquehanna do as well in response. It almost seems as a result of not including all the issues and events at hand that they are making open threats with nothing to back it up. Ok, so you as a prkoter is not happy with some of the things they are saying and doing. Well give us some examples. Tells us what the punishment will be. There has to be a standard set before one can go out and start handing out punishments. I don't see any of this in the story whatsoever. Just a broad statement saying, if you say things, something might happen.
While I understand the idea behind this and why it came up, my thoughts are that basically this was written because it was quite obvious that fans and drivers alike would respond. It created conversation and got people tweeting, facebooking and making their stance known. It was essentially clickbait to enable for future conversation on next weeks podcast and created something to look forward to going forward. Will Danny tone it down? Will the track do anything if he doesn't?
Totally seperate, but this also happened when it was basically said that Hodnett put Lucas Wolfe in the wall to win 5 grand extra. This got Greg heated and got him tweeting examples of other drivers doinjg it to him and other drivers. It got banter going between several drivers and created rivalries out of nothing really. Outside of what was said in the post race interviews (when drivers are hot and vulnerable), there was nothing to base the accusatiuon that Greg Hodnett is a dirty driver.
I guess my point is, it would seem that we are just trying to drum up things to create news when the racing week is slow leading up to Speedweek. But this is just my opinion.

The reason I didn't elaborate on everything Dietrich said was because 1) the story would have been way too long and 2) you could just go to his Twitter feed and read it. 3) it wasn't an idictment of Danny Dietrich. He can say what he wants when he wants. I have no problem with it. 4) I don't write anything for click bait. I never expected it to blow up the way it did.
I stated that comments were made taking to task tracks, competitors and the event. I also said that Susky has suspnded drivers for social media outburts. Also stated that sponsors were lost and races didn't occur because of social media outbursts. Sometimes, it's good to get out of the way and let readers interpret. That is what I did in this case.

Excellent piece. Well written and right on target. And I felt you wrote it the right way. I thought it was more about social medias impact than about a specific incident.

I "read it" the same way as you and agree with your statement.

There is only 1 excuse for the stock car guys not liking kolten. It's gotta be his "Sprint car attitude"....
hopefully some of you get that.....

Exactly. I don't agree with most of em on how they feel but sadly it's the truth.

I don't do twitter, so to me this was a poorly written article about nothing.

Yes he has. He made the Waynesfied race Saturday night - I was there. Also also made the Wayne County show last night. Barely missed the Millstream A Main Sunday. These are hard shows to make. I'm glad he came out to race with us. Tough crowd back there with some of you guys, sheez!

Exactly. A lot of those guys are tough anywhere they go let alone out there on their home turf. Kemenah, Blaney and Duncan have won some races in Pa over the past few years which isn't easy to do at all. When you get them out in Ohio, they're just that much tougher.

If you put lipstick on your pet, and people call it a pig. Don't get mad and ban people and teams from your business. It problaby was a pig anyways.

I hear ya, but I think you're missing the point. While I get you're attempting to use humor in your example, I'll expand on it. If you have a literal pig as a pet, give it bath, clean it up, etc. and your friends or an acquantance or some maroon that lives down the street who you never met insult the pig it's within your right to tell them to kick stones or leave your domicile or whatever. While the person who slung the insult may not give a flying fornication of that particular "consequence" of having to leave the house, it's stil a consequence.
If you enter, let's say an eating competition with the pig, you pay an entry fee along with others entering the competition and there is a monetary prize for the winning person, etc. you still have every right to give your "review" or thoughts of the venue, experinece, purse paid, competition, etc. but the person running the pig eating contest also can, if they choose to, ask you to not come back because of your comments. Might seem petty. Might not be the right thing to do, but again your words have consequqnces. The hope is you both can work together to make the pig eating competition a win for the guy running it, the contestants and the audience.

So much drama in sprint car racing right now on social media and live at the track. Its hard to imagine this having negative consequences.
As a fan, I know I'm going to get to see really hard racing and wrecking. If the track sucks, I'll get to see drivers bitch at promoters. If someone takes someone out, I'll get to watch them twitter fight afterwards and say I was there!
All this drama and action might be selling more tickets. You dont have to rely on just the racing going on on the track. Arguments that happened in the pits away from the fans are now happening on social media for the world to see and its fun to watch.
Greg's twitters about Lucas' wreck. Watching Ballauo (Spelling?) and Cottle go at it was fun. Etc...
