So this guy is putting in new stands, new bathrooms, new big screens, new catch fence, new lights, new suites, better pay then we've ever seen and more shows and he's bad for the sport and it's all about his ego..... Man we sure are a great group of fans arent we??? Sad, Sad, Sad days....
|
I completely understand. I think what he's doing at the track is great. For the sake of sprint car racing at Huset's, I hope like hell it works out. I've just gone from being optimistic, and sticking up for him, to skeptical and bothered by his character and what he seems to represent. And yes, I know the pawn shop/whatever else, isn't at the race track but it's all under the Badlands banner, and therefore, in my eyes, they're all tied together. He's using one to promote the other, smart business, yes, but all the new stuff at the track doesn't mean anything if the product is crap. I understand that it's to early to tell, but I believe the writing is on the wall. Hopefully I'm wrong and I'm just the poop in the punch bowl, if so, I'll own up and eat crow.

I don't get why when a guy is attempting to put more money in racers pockets he gets crucified. I hope it works out for him. More payout is definitely in the best interests of racers. Too bad Knoxville won't step up and do the same for ALL their cars.
|
Well, then maybe they should ALL go race at Huset's next season. Simple solution, right?

Its not that he is bad for the sport for me I just think he would be better off running on sunday night with a 410/360/305 show and run the s**t Box show on Sat this way the sprint will have a 3 night weekend Glen

So it would be better for you if he didn't run Saturdays... For me, I love the fact that I'll now be able to take in a good 410 show on a Saturday night and not have to drive 5 hours to Knoxville. Sundays are not easy for many fans and drivers when it comes to work and kids... In my opinion what he's doing in Brandon has been needed for years, the past owners lost intrest long, long ago and it was a dying track. Bandlands isn't going to be the death of Knoxville, nore vise-versa. What I don't understand is how people can bash this guy that's pumping so much into the sport we all love before the green flag has even fallen on the opening night!?!?!?

I'm not saying whether I think the Husets thing is going to work or not but I read alot of peoples comments on here and just wanted to say, you guys do realize this business that is opening on Thanksgiving is not at the sight of the race track right. Alot of peoples comments on here allude to that this pawn shop/tatoo shop/gun range/foundry/concert venue is being opened on the sight of the track and I just wanted to point out it isn't, its about 20 miles away from the track in Sioux Falls, the track is in Brandon SD.
Don't get me wrong, I look at everything thats going to be in this business and wonder what this guys thinking too but I just thought from many of the comments from people on here, they're making it seem like this is at the race track and its not.
|
I understand that but all I'm saying is the Badlands thing seems to be a brand that he's trying to sell and Huset's is a part of that.

You hit the nail on the head. The dude is a narcissist. It's obvious he thinks so highly of himself that it's almost as if he's moreso creating a shrine for people to come worship his rockstar lifestyle and his vast riches as opposed to making Huset's a better facility. All I see is a guy with an ego the size of Russia who apparently lives in some kind of fantasy world or something. Whatever it is, I don't see this ending well for Huset's Speedway and that's a damn shame. One thing is for certain, if he is in fact trying to take on Knoxville the way he seems to be, he will lose. Money can't buy tradition and history which Knoxville has as much of as any track in the country. Personally if I were the promoter at Knoxville, I'd be laughing my ass off at this clown and looking forward to him crashing and burning while Knoxville just does what it's always done without any tattoo parlors, washed up hair bands or its own personal Fort Knox. Just putting on a great show each and every week with what I consider to be the most talented weekly field of racers in the country on the best prepared surface in the country and sprint car racings most iconic event every August that turns every sprint car loving eye in the country on a little town in Iowa where legends are made.

If we were talking Stock Cars and Modifieds at two tracks six hours apart it would be a non-issue because there's a ton of them to go around. With Sprints it's a bit more of a challenge to think positive thoughts about this deal as they are more limited in numbers. Like I have said in other posts, I don't get to Jackson, Knoxville or the former Husets very often but their presence does influence our Sprint Car scene up here in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. It will be interesting for anybody within 500 miles to see how this chess game plays out.

This is a ridiculous idea that there are a boatload of cars that are running 3 nights in a row. Are you telling me that drivers are going to go from running 15-20 nights a year at Husets and a few specials are now going to run between 50-60 nights a year running this so call "circuit" of three tracks? There are maybe 3 teams who could support that for a season. I will be suprised if there are even 10 cars who make the 100% club of the NSL to run for the higher purse weekly and that is 2 nights a week.
I would love it to if they would run three nights in a row. Hell, I also wish every week Knoxville hosted a 4 day show with over 100 410 sprint cars with a purse of over $1,000,000 every Saturday night, but that just is not any reality that we live in.

they are running street stocks on saturday night. they are a very entertaining class with actual side by side racing and passing. top cars start in the back not in the front like most 410 racing. 10 times better than any 305 race I have ever seen.

Maybe I misunderstood the whole Knoxville/NSL deal but I don't think Knoxville is paying more for anybody.
The NSL is offering a better payout for drivers that race with them.

Maybe that's the case. I couldn't tell from the press release. It just listed two different payouts and I, and probably many, got the impression the track was paying differently. Maybe different wording on how the added payout is applied might have lessened the grumbling. Their 360 bonus pay is not going to be paid until the end of the year which makes it more like a points fund payout. I guess they wanted to put extra money in their 410 guys' pockets all year. At least until they miss a race.

I understood it to be a NSL bonus from the beginning. The 100% participation was in regards to the NSL races at Jackson and Knoxville as a joint bonus to the NSL purses. Ten NSL races at each track. I didn't think that the bonus and such was based on 100% participation in the entire Knoxville weekly season.

The NSL needs to change their name to the IOSOTA, Jackville, or Knoxson Cup.

Sprint car racing has always been a showcase for whoever had the biggest balls.
Dumping $30 million into something takes a set... https://youtu.be/VcvOO9KOkI8
Lets just hope he also starts sponsoring a bunch of sprint car teams like Tod Quiring.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car
much less chromoly...http://www.ycmco.com

If Sunday is such a great night, and according to all the people that want to do whats best for sprint car racing and its teams wouldn't Knoxville running Sun. make the most sense, see you start at Jackson on Fri. than a hour east to BMS on Sat and than back home to Knoxville Sunday. But see the problem here is most people who own a race track do not want a Sun show, why because its Sun. 90% percent of racers in the upper midwest have jobs, and its not racing so unless you dont have to travel Sunday is not a great night, and one other thing other than 2 or 3 teams that do this for a living cars from Knoxville have never raceed at Husets unless for a holiday there might be a couple more that would show up.

60 years is a long time, however times change and if 12 to 15 410's for a weekly show is OK, I guess it would be difficult for me to address that.

Ding, Ding! As I stated before, this is all in support of his lifestyle, as well as his IDGAF attitude. Which is fine, as long as the raceing doesn't suffer as a result.
