Anyone complaining about sprint car costs are simply invalid.  There are umpteen sprint car classes all the way down to a 250 cc mini bike engine for pity's sake.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

You are pushing a rope through wet sand.  Just as long as people with large wallets and larger egos are involved in racing, the costs will escalate.

I was in the sport off and on for 27 years.  Here is what I think would help make it cheaper and better racing.

1)  Wings - Top Wing body,1 square foot smaller,  Side boards 6" smaller. Front wing, 4" smaller side boards.

2)  RR Tire - Smaller at 16" wide, 102" cir. max.  Open tire make rule.

3)  Engine:  11:1 compression, 2.625 injectors (or restrictors).  Motors could run 20 -25 shows.

Better racing and cheaper for owners.

The problem they run into when they want to run an open tire is that they offer deals and point fund money in exchange for signing on with a specific brand.  Most tracks and series promoters find it difficult to turn those deals down.  These are all good ideas and someone who has been in the sport for years like yourself knows what they are talking about.  The challenge is always to sell these ideas nation wide otherwise you've got guys buying wings they can't run anywhere else.  Racers, especially a class like Sprints where even local guys will do some traveling to events like the Nationals, is seling the idea to the entire sport.  Otherwise anyone with rules that are unique to their track or series put themselves on an island.

So having every team buy all new wings, all new rear wheels and make major changes to their motors will save teams money??? Almost all rule changes cost teams money because they need to buy neew parts to comply with the new rules that are made to save them money!

Just to be on other side of fence with your commets.   Every top running engine builder puts new pistons in every year.  Most tracks use 16 inch wide tires( I do not know what over 102 inches does) and restrictors in injector stacks just slip in.  If any of these changes happen, they will not happen at once but over several years

I hate to tell them but the top owners who complain about costs have done this to themselves. They all had top notch stuff and were winning most of the races. Everyone knows new stuff breaks less than older stuff. Wanting to buy new stuff and get some money out of the old stuff they sold it to other teams thinking that they were not smart enough to go fast with their old stuff. Suprise! Some of those guys could go fast with their old stuff. Although it break sometimes if you get six or eight cars in a race going fast with the old stuff some of them are going to finish the race and pick up some top finishes and some wins. Guess what. The owners now have to spend more money get even better stuff to be able to beat their old stuff.

Like the 11:1 compression rule for 305's. It would be nice that IMCA Modified racesaver sprints would go to that rule.

These   are   good solid  ideas  by Kirk  Dewease  , and should  be  considered  but they  won't  because  the  WoO likes  it the way  it  is  . And  there  drivers  obviously  like it   as  well  or  they would gradually phase  in these  changes . Anything to make for   better  racing  is what we should  strive  for  fun , good  racing , save  money , and maybe  keep  drivers around and owners  as  well  .
