Kalib Henry Teams Up With Mafara Motorsports For 2016 Sprint Car Season
March 2nd, 2016
Jones Media Relations: 16 year old driver, Kalib Henry will make the transition to full time Sprint Car Racing for the 2016 season. Kalib will be behind wheel of the Mafara Motorsports #M21, 410 cubic inch sprint car. The team plans to compete in approximately 20 races throughout the season beginning Friday, April 15th at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for the first of their 410 Sprint Car Points Races.
The team is planning to race for the David Tarter Rookie of the Year Honors at the Silver Dollar Speedway, along with a select few other 410 races yet to be named. Kalib is also attempting to solidify plans to run more 360 sprint car races with another team throughout the season.
Henry, who calls Citrus Heights, CA home is excited to make the move into a full time sprint car ride this season. “Joe Mafara is like an Uncle to me. He told me that when my dad retired we would go sprint car racing when it came time. We couldn’t do any of this without him.”
In making the move from outlaw karts to sprint cars he is following in the steps of fellow outlaw kart drivers including Kyle Larson, Rico Abreu, Sean Becker, and many others.
Outlaw kart racing has become a proving ground of sorts, to help mold the younger generation of drivers before they strap into a sprint car full time. Kalib has proved himself to be ready and able to compete in the higher ranks.
“The biggest difference I think, between an outlaw kart and a sprint car would be the throttle control and steering. When steering a sprint car you have to put a lot more wheel into the car and will still get less of a reaction than you would in the kart.” said Henry
The first time Kalib drove an outlaw kart he was just 7 years old. He only ran a few races in the Box Stock Class before he moved up into the 250 Intermediate Class where he would be a dominant factor for the next few years. In 2012 he won the Lakeport Indoor Championship in the 250 class, then followed that up with a Cycleland Speedway 250 Championship as well. He completed the trifecta during the 2013/14 season with the Red Bluff Outlaws picking up the 250 Track Championship there as well. Kalib has upwards of 50 career wins in an outlaw kart. His most recent accomplishment in the outlaw kart ranks is his first Championship in the 500 Open Class at Cycleland Speedway in 2015. Kalib looks to continue his winning ways as he climbs behind the wheel of a sprint car.
Henry made his first sprint car start last August at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA behind the wheel of Scott Hall’s #56K 360 sprint car. Kalib has three starts in a winged 360 sprint car to date, with his best finish being tenth, in his first start.
