Wednesdays with Wayne –Winter Nationals this Weekend!
(Bill W) October 14, 2015 – This weekend finds Wayne Johnson and the #77x at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway Winter Nationals in Mesquite, Texas. Wayne hopes to add to his seven career ASCS National wins at the half-mile this Friday and Saturday. Last weekend, he ran in ASCS-Red River action at Lonestar Speedway near Kilgore, Texas, finishing fourth.
Starting towards the back of his heat race on the high-banked Lonestar Speedway, Wayne would work his way up to third. “We were able to get up to third,” he says. “The track was in great condition, maybe as good as I’ve ever seen it. That put us in the redraw.”
Luck of the draw has not been on his side as of late, and he would start eighth. “We were able to get up to third,” says Wayne. “We had two or three cautions towards the end. We had a red there and my tire went down. It was kind of the same thing that happened at I-80, though we were able to finish that one with a win.”
This time, Wayne would back up a spot. “We ended up fourth,” he says. “We came in with four pounds of air. It was a deal again where it was cool and you sit there on the track a while.”
He heads into Devil’s Bowl with some confidence, having picked up a win with the ASCS National Series there on June 13. “We’re looking forward to it,” says Wayne. “It’s no secret that Devil’s Bowl is like home to me. We’ve had a lot of success there over the years.”
Wayne’s wins at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in ASCS National competition have occurred on the following dates: June 18, 1996, June 18, 1997, October 4, 2002, March 16, 2007, October 21, 2011, June 15, 2012 and June 13, 2015.

Wayne won the 2012 $13,000 Lonestar Nationals in Kilgore. On October 13, he topped Jason Johnson, Kevin Swindell, Seth Bergman and Blake Hahn in ASCS National competition.
