 MWR/Bryan Clauson – Ohio Travels!

(Bill W) October 13, 2015 – Bryan Clauson and the Matt Wood Racing #17w team spent last weekend in Ohio.  They raced the All Star Circuit of Champions finale at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg before running in open competition at Millstream Speedway in Findlay on Sunday.  The highlight of the weekend was a runner-up finish at Millstream.  Bryan will drive for Josh Ford Racing at the Trophy Cup at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway in California this weekend.

Bryan had high hopes heading into Eldora.  “It was one of those nights where we were o.k., but never great,” he says.  “We qualified second in our group and started third in the heat.  We were in the wrong lane on the takeoff, and ran third in the heat.  That put us behind the Dash inversion and all that.”

He would line up in row seven for the feature.  “We weren’t terrible, but we weren’t good enough to drive up through there,” says Bryan.  “The track was different for the fifth time we’ve been there.  It was more of a prototypical Eldora.  It built a curb on the fence and it was slick all the way across.”

Bryan would finish fourteenth, and head to a new track in Findlay on Sunday.  “We were able to run second in the heat race,” he says.  “We redrew a four for the feature.  We spent the first few laps figuring out where to run, and I think we fell back to fifth.”

From there, he would charge to the front and chase down leader, Chad Kemenah.  “We got really good around the halfway point and got to second,” says Bryan.  “At that point, I felt we were a little better than the 10H, but by that time, he had a straightaway lead.  It was a little too much to overcome.”

Matt Wood Racing would like to thank: Elk Grove Ford, Quick Lane, Fuel Safe, Schoenfeld and Vortex Wings!
