Brad Loyet – An Outlaw Education!
(Bill W) July 9, 2015 – After competing with the World of Outlaws last weekend, Brad Loyet and the Loyet Motorsports/Vacuworx Global #o5 feels like they learned a lot about their program. On the way home from Dodge City, they picked up a top five with the ASCS-Warrior region at Double X Speedway near California, Missouri. This weekend, the team heads to Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin where they will compete with the UMSS 360 series Friday, and the Outlaws on Saturday and Sunday. Things started with the WoO at Lakeside Speedway near Kansas City on Wednesday. Brad timed in 20th quick, and checkered 18th in the feature. “Whenever you qualify that poorly, it puts a damper on the whole night,” he says. “It’s something we’ve been really working on this year, but the bigger racetracks have been a struggle. That’s part of the reason we decided to run with the Outlaws last weekend. We need to get that experience on tracks we struggle with.” The Sunset Hills, Missouri driver headed to Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas with the WoO Friday and Saturday. “We had been there once in the 360, and we won there in the midget,” says Brad. “It had been a while since we’d been out there. Friday night, we did something completely different with the racecar that we hadn’t run in a long time. The car seemed to respond to it very well.” Brad timed in 18th quick. “We were the last car out to qualify,” he says. “If we had been early, I think our night would have changed a little bit. In the heat race, everyone fell into a groove. We were the same speed as everyone else (finishing fifth).” He would start 18th in the feature. “In the feature, it got to be a technical race on the bottom,” says Brad. “You needed to hit the right spot down there. It took me about halfway through the race to get the car doing what I needed it to do. Honestly, we were pretty good. We had tried some things that worked that we could use Saturday.” After a 14th place finish, Brad was ready for Saturday. “We went out early, which we were excited about,” he says. “Unfortunately, we had an issue with the throttle linkage. We lost all power. We came back out at the end and had one lap. We were able to get a respectable lap in (14th quick). I really wish we would have made it out in our time spot.” The heat went well after some early excitement. “Jason Johnson and Kerry Madsen got their wheels together in front of me,” says Brad. “I got off the gas, and that was pretty much the end of the heat race. I just followed them through there and followed them in fifth.” Brad would move forward in the main event after starting 14th. “We were able to get up to tenth fairly quickly,” he says. “It was a momentum deal around the top. It went green until the halfway point. I was a little excited to bunch up the field, but at the same time, I was closing on guys under green. (Joey) Saldana slid us pretty good and we fell back to 11th.” The 11th place finish showed the team was getting better each night out. “After the whole weekend, we learned a lot about what we need to do with the car,” says Brad. “Although the results didn’t show a win or a top five, it showed a gain in our books. We’re going to make some adjustments on the chassis before we head to Cedar Lake.” The race at Double X Sunday night was part of the Red, White and Blue weekend for the ASCS-Warrior series. “We were slated to start last in the heat, but someone spun out in front of us,” says Brad. “We ended up second. We redrew a six for the feature.” Brad had fun in the feature. “We used it as a practice night,” he says. “It’s kind of like going back in time racing there. We wanted to try something completely different. The track got really slick. Late in the race, the balance of the car was upset, and we ended up fifth. We were running fourth and I thought we had a shot at a top three. After a caution, I don’t know if the tires sealed up or what. In the end, we got to race at Double X. One of my crew guys is from there and races there occasionally on Sundays. It was nice to have some fun and see his family.” Brad’s Website Brad’s website is freshly designed for 2015.
