Kaley Gharst – Back at Jackson!

(Bill W) July 2, 2015 – Kaley Gharst and the Sandvig #7 team were back in action last weekend at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa on Friday and the Jackson Speedway in Minnesota on Saturday.  The events were sanctioned by the MSTS 360 series.  The Decatur, Illinois driver will be back at Jackson this Saturday night.

Kaley started fifth in his heat at Rock Rapids Friday.  “We were really good on the first start,” he says. “We got up to second, but they ended up having a caution.  We didn’t get quite as good a start the second time and ended up fourth.  That didn’t do a whole lot for us for passing points.”

He would start fourth in a special Dash.  “It was a random Dash where they drew the cars and we drew starting spots,” says Kaley.  “We ended up getting into third.  The track started taking rubber and there wasn’t a whole lot of passing.”

The one-lane conditions remained as Kaley lined up fourteenth in the feature.  “Things were running late, so they didn’t rework the track,” he says.  “We were up to ninth and we got together with Cody Hansen. That put us back to 18th.  It seemed every restart, guys were getting together and we got back to 11th. We couldn’t really pass any cars, we just gained that many by cars dropping out.”

Saturday at Jackson, Kaley would start and finish in the fifth spot in his heat.  “The track went away a lot quicker than we anticipated,” he says.  “We were just way too loose and couldn’t make up any ground.”

Starting back in row nine, he would work to a ninth place finish in the feature.  That followed up a fifth place finish by the team a week before.  “The car was much better in the feature,” says Kaley.  “We were able to drive up to ninth.  We’re hoping we can get it to the front there this Saturday.”

The team is still waiting on their 410 engine, so they will be running again at the Jackson Speedway this Saturday night.
