For the first time, the Outlaws utilized their new qualifying format, splitting the field into two flights.  Joey Saldana (3^rd car out to time) set a new track record on the banked 3/8-mile oval at 12.838 seconds.  Kerry Madsen (14^th car out) was second quick, followed by Danny Lasoski (13^th), Logan Schuchart (17^th), Daryn Pittman (2^nd), Jamie Veal (16^th), Steve Kinser (4^th) and Jacob Allen (9^th).  Jason Sides (19^th car out) set quick time in the second flight, followed by Sammy Swindell (33^rd), Donny Schatz )(31^ST), Brian Brown (28^th), Paul McMahan (26^th), Shane Stewart (25^th), Brad Sweet (22^nd) and Brent Marks (28^th).  Dylan Peterson suffered issues and didn’t get a time in.  The track was fast and heavy.  The track crew did yeoman’s work to get the race in.

The first flight of qualifying made up heats one and two.  Kinser led the distance in a freight train, pulling away at the end.  Hendrickson grabbed the fifth and final transfer early in the 8-lapper, but Kaeding took command shortly after.

Heat two (started): 1. Veal 35AU (2) 2. Allen 1a (1) 3. K. Madsen 29 (4) 4. Schuchart 1s (3) 5. Kraig Kinser 11K (5) / 6. Matt Juhl 09 (6) 7. Ryan Bunton 7R (7) 8. Kevin Ingle 2K (8)

Veal took off in clean air and won going away.  K. Madsen put some pressure on Allen mid-race for second.

Heat three (started): 1. Sweet 49 (1) 2. Schatz 15 (3) 3. Sides 7s (4) 4. Terry McCarl 24 (5) 5. McMahan 51 (2) / 6. Skylar Prochaska 35 (7) 7. RJ Johnson 71A (6) 8. Bronson Maeschen 96 (8) DNS – Dylan Peterson 25

In what John Gibson called the slowest pace coming to the chalk line for a heat of the season, pole-sitter Sweet stacked the field up resulting in Maeschen, RJ Johnson and McCarl contacting.  Maeschen was forced to retire.  RJ continued with a damaged nose wing.  McMahan shot out to a lead ahead of Sweet and Schatz.  RJ would come to a stop with two laps in the books.  McMahan exited from the lead to make repairs in the work area.  Both would tag the tail.  Sweet chose the outside as the new leader ahead of Schatz, Sides, McCarl and Prochaska.  McMahan would recover the fifth and final transfer.

Heat four (started): 1. Stewart 2 (2) 2. Swindell 41 (4) 3. Marks 19m (1) 4. Brown 21 (3) 5. Ian Madsen 18 (6) / 6. David Gravel 7 (5) 7. Tasker Phillips 7TAZ (7) 8. Brandon Stevenson 0 (8)

Stewart led flag to flag in a mostly single file affair.

A steady drizzle forced a rain delay of close to an hour.

Dash (started): 1. K. Madsen (2) 2. Swindell (1) 3. Saldana (4) 4. Stewart (6) 5. Sides (3) 6. Sweet (8) 7. Veal (5) 8. S. Kinser (7)

The track was lightning fast after the rain.  K. Madsen jumped into the lead and never looked back.  Stewart did well to move up two spots.

B main (started): 1. Hendrickson (2) 2. Gravel (1) 3. RJ Johnson (4) 4. Prochaska (6) / 5. Bunton (7) 6. Maeschen (11) 7. Anderson (9) 8. Stevenson (10) 9. Weuve (13) 10. Juhl (3) 11. Martin (5) 12. Phillips (8) 13. Peterson (12) DNS – Ingle

Hendrickson led early in the 12-lapper over Gravel, Juhl and RJ Johnson.  With nine laps in the books, Phillips ran into a slowing Martin in turn one in a battle for 6th, sending both up the banking and Martin upside down.  No one was hurt.  The restart saw Hendrickson pick the inside line over Gravel, Juhl, RJ Johnson and Prochaska.  At the drop of the green, RJ and Juhl came together sending Juhl upside down.  No one was hurt.  Prochaska benefited from the accident by grabbing the final transfer.

McCarl elected for the tail.  K. Madsen shot out to another lead in the 30-lapper.  The track was still lightning fast and narrow when the leader entered lapped traffic on lap five.  By lap eight, Schatz had found his way around four cars and was running sixth.  At the halfway point, K. Madsen led Swindell, Saldana, Stewart, Sweet and Schatz.  With the top six nose to tail, Stewart made a big move on lap 21, passing both Saldana and Swindell into the runner-up spot.  He reeled in the leader.  On Lap 28, he shot inside of Kerry in turn three and assumed the point.  He would never look back in winning his fourth Outlaw feature of the year.  K. Madsen was second ahead of Saldana, who grabbed third from Swindell on lap 22.  Schatz completed his hard-charge in fourth.  The National Sprint League visits Denison on Friday, July 24.  Hopefully, Mother Nature will be a little more kind to the racing surface at the banked 3/8-mile.
