Kaley Gharst – Jackson Action!

(Bill W) June 10, 2015 – Since hurting their 410 motor, Kaley Gharst and the Sandvig #7 team have been busy racing at the Jackson Speedway in Minnesota on Saturday night.  A podium finish last weekend was the latest event for the team.  They plan on racing with the MSTS series this weekend at Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minnesota on Friday and back at the Jackson Speedway Saturday.

On Saturday, May 30, Kaley would start 14th in the feature at Jackson.  “It was a little bit of a choppy track,” he says.  “With all of the rain they had had, that was a little bit expected.  At least we got to race.  We were getting through there decent, but every now and then, we’d catch a hole wrong.  We ended up seventh.”

The Decatur, Illinois driver had his shots at moving up.  “We were able to get by (Gregg) Bakker there for sixth twice, but the caution came out,” says Kaley.  “He wasn’t going to let that happen a third time.  I tried one more time on the last restart and hit the hole hard.  I about turned it over.  We gathered it back in and held on for seventh.”

Last Saturday, he would start and finish second in the heat.  “We had the car a little loose for the heat,” says Kaley.  “Still, finishing second put us in the redraw, and we had some luck there.  We got to start on the pole.”

Kaley would checker third.  “We were still a little loose, and Bakker got by us there at the start,” he says.  “I kept moving around on the track trying to find something.  (Dusty) Ballenger got us on the bottom.  We were able to get back by him, and I moved to the bottom.  That’s when (Skylar) Prochaska passed us both on the top.  I went back up to the top and we were able to hold onto third.”

There are good early returns on the newly renovated track at Jackson.  “The track was really good,” says Kaley.  “Mother Nature helped them out last week.  There was a good top and a bottom. Sometimes you could run through the middle too.  Rain came about ten minutes after the feature, so it was good to get it in.  The bottom is a little shorter now in the corners.  I think the banking out of turn two helps you get out of that a little better.  Other than that, it drives about the same.”
