Car count should have been better. Thought the MOWA cars would support the show. But.....I don't think the racing could have been any better. The track was racey bottom to top. The A main was absolutely great. Best A main I saw all year.

I’ve been to about 40 shows at Farmington over the last 20 years and last night’s feature ranks as one of the best I’ve ever seen there. The last eight laps of the feature were unreal with Hurley leading the final corner to the checker. Pretty much just the Farmington regulars plus Hurley, Hull and Bruns from MOWA. About what I expected with so many choices this weekend. With MOWA coming off a show at Quincy last Sunday and a two-night stand coming up next weekend at Granite City, I didn’t expect too many MOWA cars either. Still a terrific feature.

It is hard to beat a feature with three lead changes in the last lap. You could have covered the three leaders with a blanket at the white flag. Great track and a great show. Miller doing a wheelie all the way down the back straight several times during his heat race was a quick clue to how racy the track was. Buckley's chasing the leaders in the feature with a $5,000 engine is a great indicator of how well the right tire rule works and why it should be the standard for all sprint car tracks.

Thanks for posting the results! Sounds like I missed a good one. I wish they would make this a 2 day show or have another sprint race in the area on Friday night to help make the drive over a little better. Too bad more of the IL drivers didn't show. I guess Hurley is the cream of the crop from IL. Congrats to him!

I can remember when the group from the Springfield IL area made up the majority of Farmington’s weekly field: Jim Moughan, Terry Babb, Dave Feese, Bobby Hawks, Tony Weyant, The Standridges. All were fixtures down there every single week. I guess it just shows that they have a strong contingent of sprint cars from the immediate Farmington area now.
I was at the first Queens Royale back in ’98, named as such as the first event was sponsored by the local Dairy Queen. Back then it was a two-day show, Friday and Saturday.
One thing I had forgotten about was Farmington’s quirky race format. The top qualifiers from time trails were automatically locked into the dash which determined the feature line up. (The dash was 10 cars for 10 laps – a little wild). The fastest qualifiers from time trials, while scheduled to run a heat, didn’t really have to race in one to transfer or anything, so drivers like Jerrod Hull chose to start in the back away from the field and get some extra practice laps in. I think that format was similar to what Farmington used for their weekly show 20 years ago and it was interesting to see it still being used.
Here’s the official full feature rundown from stlracing.com:
35h Jimmy Hurley 12 Jerrod Hull 97 Tommy Worley Jr. 87 Kent Buckley 51b Joe B. Miller 44 A.J. Bruns 17 James Scott 2k Ryan Kempin 72 Kevin Petty 606 John Epperson 5 Kory Bales 14t Jimmy Bridgeman 88 Jeff Wurst 67 Joey Boyd 7z Matt Zimmerly 11k Kasey Burch DNF 12x Joey Montgomery DNF 28 Jason Keith DNF 24 Keith Burch DNF 35 Tyler Settlemoir DNF
