Brad Loyet – Season Off to a Fast Start!

(Bill W) March 31, 2014 – Brad Loyet and the Vacuworx Global/Miller Truck Lines #o5 team is off and running in 2014.  They already have a number of shows under their belt, including four nights with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series and three with the World of Outlaws.  The team plans on running the 410 this weekend in MOWA competition at Lincoln, Illinois and locally at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Missouri.

Things started for ASCS near Yuma, Arizona.  “We started the year with ASCS at Cocopah Speedway (Yuma, Arizona),” says Brad.  “The first night, we ran well with a top five.  We got away from our baseline a little bit and struggled the second night (finishing 13th).  That got under my skin a little bit, and we left something on the table there.  That really drove us to get back where we need to be and get fast again.”

The western trip also included shows with the WoO at Las Vegas (2) and Tucson.  “We went and ran three shows with the Outlaws and made all but one of them (2nd night at Vegas),” says Brad.  “That show, we missed by one spot.  Running the 410 helped us a lot.  We’re going to be doing quite a bit of 410 racing this year in comparison to year’s past.  Those guys are at the top of the game, and to be able to run with them and be competitive is very rewarding (he was 13th at Vegas and 16th in Tucson).”

The Sunset Hills, Missouri driver returned to action at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Mesquite, Texas with ASCS on Friday, March 21.  “Last week at Devil’s Bowl, the track was just ‘lockdown’ fast…line-up and race,” says Brad.  “I think that night, we started 17th and ran 14th.  That was really all you could do.  You just put it to the floor and held on.”

A rainout the following night led to a long trip for the team for the makeup last Saturday.  “We had to tow all the way back down there for a one-day show,” says Brad.  “(The track) was the same really. It was lockdown heavy, one and a half lanes wide.  I think we started the heat sixth and finished fifth.  We started on the pole of the B.  It was the same thing.  We got the jump and rode around for ten laps, and that was that.”

Starting 17th, Brad charged forward, but the night ended up in smoke.  “Our car was rolling well, but so were the other twenty-two cars in the feature,” he says.  “We threw a little something different at the car.  We were trying to get it to roll well through the heavy track and the traffic.  We were up to eighth or ninth with about ten laps to go, and the motor let go.  It was one of those heartbreakers where it was going to be a good point night for us, and it ended up being a DNF.  Our goal is to finish every race.  This was out of our control.  Our engine builder (J and D Performance Racing Engines) builds us great motors.  This is the first engine failure I’ve had in my four years racing sprint cars, so we can’t complain too much.  It was an old one, that maybe we shouldn’t have had in the car to begin with.”

Racing plans are focused much closer to home this weekend.  “The plan is to run the MOWA show at Lincoln Speedway on Friday,” says Brad.  “It all depends on the weather, but then we’re planning on the 410 local show in Farmington, Missouri Saturday.”
