49 ASCS cars in the pits tonight.  6 heats and 2 B's.

Tony Bruce, Jr. won from the pole followed by Matt Covington and Kevin Swindell.  By my notes 4th was Christopher Bell then John Carney II, Seth Bergman, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Greg Wilson (from Ohio), Aaron Reutzel, Jeff Swindell, Jon Agan (Iowa) Channing Tankersley, Johnny Herrera, Brad Loyet, Blake Hahn (I think), Jason Johnson, Josh Bauman ?? (from Odessa, TX., I think), Russ Hall.  Don't rely on all of those finishes as I know I'm not right toward the back - but it gives you an idea. Danny Jennings chose to start the A in the back and pulled into the pits after one lap.   Even David Gravel was here from Connecticutt.  He just missed a transfer out of his B after starting 9th (he finished 4th). Travis Rilat was also one spot out a transfer in the other B from 8th.  He was involved in a crash in the 1st heat which but had time to fix his car because of another red flag when Danny Wood flipped after being pushed into the front straight wall on the restart.   James Mosher(?) #12 took the worst looking ride causing the 1st red flag.     The weather was great tonight.  It's supposed to be cold Sat. night.

  • Best weather at a race I've been to at the Bowl in forever.
  • Bruce was FAST... I mean really fast.  14.3 or so in the heat?  Moving on.  Makes me wonder just how fast Pittman, McMahan & Saldana will time trial in their upcoming return to the Bowl.  Low 13's?  That will be a sight to see.
  • Everyone has to start somewhere & the good ones made mistakes early on buuuuuuuuuuut... that Taylor girl in the 92 really looked bad in the heat race starting from the pole.  She wadded up a good Danny Wood car into the wall.  Luckily I was seated in front of her parked car on the front stretch for the heat race red flag & heard what Danny was screaming at her.  Danny's one of the good ones & I may have done the same thing but I wish it was in the pits after the heat & not with her strapped in about to push off.  He had every right to be frustrated... she made a mistake & he is paying the price in parts & terrible starting positions for the rest of the night which ended in the B.  Between Taylor & Harly's heat race start shenanigans in the Winternationals... thank goodness the Hahn boys look to be improving.  Young OK future racers may be alright after all.
  • I hate it when I say "I wish the track surface wasn't so good."  It was too good lol.  I like the Bowl when it slicks off low/middle in black and they're running the top, divebomb sliders galore.  Great job preparing the track, guys.  Maybe... don't be so good tonight lol.
  • I really enjoyed visiting with Kevin Swindell in the pits before the races.  Such a nice guy.  Still lives in Charlotte, still under contract to the Nationwide team that has someone else in the car this year despite how well they did together last year.  He's fast every time I've seen him on TV or in person... wish he'd end up with a "good home" & win a bunch of races for some lucky owner.  82? hmmmm... looked good last night.
  • Jason Johnson looked awfully pedestrian.  Bad night maybe but they were off.  New motor package the culprit?  He'll probably win by half a lap tonight but they were off last night.  VERY sharp tow rig, pit equipment, mechanical aspect of the car. Prepared very well... very sharp machine up close.
  • I sure miss seeing Gary Wright kicking tail at the Bowl.
  • Thought Derek Hagar was coming on down according to his Twitter the other day?  As fast as he's been elsewhere already this year (lapped the field the other night with the USCS) I thought he might have a litle something to show.  I miss the Memphis Bunch dragging some fast equipment down to the Bowl like in years past.  Ronnie Daniels, Mike Ward, Lee Brewer & of course the guys that went on to WoO wins & titles.  Little Rock to Memphis has produced some good ones.  They don't seem to show like they did in years past.

Just think what he would've done with a Chevy.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?
