I'll throw my BS card out on this one...... Titanium springs (titanium is brittle) but a stainless exhaust?

Not too many people run them, but titanium coil springs and even torsion bars have been around for a while. And a lot of high end exhaust is stainless in all forms of motor racing. Thin/lightweight stainless sprint car headers do crack easier though for how much they cost.

What is extraordinary is an entire titanium frame. This thing is a piece of art. Should be on a pedestal outside of the expo center instead of the driller...lol. Wouldn't have to worry about it rusting...lol.

Ti springs are not that uncommon.  There have been several midgets running them.   

there is a story going back a couple years about the progress of building this midget on midgetmadness.com. its in the "forums" section. i tried to cut and paste the link but it wouldnt work. there are pics posted but you gotta sign up to the site to access them. the car is a work of art and they tried to get it done for the 2012 chili bowl. as far as Ti springs (and bars) they are out there. i have a set of coils for our midget and when i bought them, they were around 3 times the cost of a regular coil spring......HAD a nice set of stainless headers too till they got destroyed in a flip. they came with a motor i bought and when i checked the cost to replace them, i decided to go with a regular set of steel headers. i spoke to the guy that built and owns this midget a couple times and he fielded a car for PJ jones at the chili bowl for a few seasons. he is/was obsessed with having the best and lightest stuff and this midget shows how far he would go to acheive his goal. he isnt some guy who has tons of cash to blow on projects like this....when i spoke to him, he made his living hanging sheetrock...just a normal guy with a dream.

Okay, I stand corrected on the springs.... But why would you use stainless for the headers when Titanium is lighter, stronger and endures higher temperatures?

Probably for the weight savings wasn't worth the cost to him. Stainless is already pretty light and a lot more people are already using it. Besides, it's really easy to tear up a header with an open wheel car. Would be sick to your stomach to see a titanium one get tore up. At least the chassis stands a chance depending on who is driving it. You also have half a chance of straightening it. Headers are throw away.

Also, if they were that serious about weight, it would have some of Kenny's carbon fiber wheels.....Shaving unsprung weight is everything...

cubic....the car was never raced. its almost like it dissappeared for a while then showed up finished on the classifieds

kennys wheels are sweeeeeeeeeeet but from what i understand, were built just for bondio to run at the chili bowl (and they have the hubs built in to the wheel...even further weight savings) although kenny posted on FB, when someone asked "how much"...."they will be auctioned off at bondios trailer after the chili bowl A main"...i have not checked to see if they were or not or how much they fetched....wouldnt be surprised to see them on swindells cars next year

I don't get the headers tho. Why do they go back into engine compartment?

Mickey Thompson 1964 Indy car had a titanium frame which would have been hi tech for its day.  Titanium was once a military secret with its use in planes.

Stainless steel exhaust isn't rare in all applications... check out Billy Boat's company website at www.bbexhaust.com.

Might not be common in dirt track stuff but high performance cars... not bizarre.

People are excited about stainless headers?  You guys don't get out much do you?  Lots of guys have been running Brett Manns Rocket Headers for years now, didn't know it was top secret lol

The question is how much does it weigh?Or how much do the Swindell cars weigh.The Chilli Bowl was a lot more fun to watch than Super Bowl.

I have seen this car, and it is a work of art. The exhaust turns up in front of the engine and points out the right side of the hood. Not visable from the side. Very nice car. I looked at Swindells and Bondios cars and this car is just as cool looking. Workmanship is phenominal. 

I feel I am the only one in the Midwest that runs his stuff, I have several different sets of headers some different manufactures, , but, my favorite is the Rockets.. with no mufflers, makes her sound perrrty, and look nice,  we had a issue with the correct fit on one side after purchase, , I contacted him about the problem, he had the issue resolved and sent out a replacement ASAP..  in honesty I dont notice a big differerance in weight vs my Schoenfelds (sp)?  anyway, i have caught so much flack for the hottdog looking headers , I didnt think they were a big deal, now  vs a ceramic coated set, I think they are cheaper actually, we have run the same set for proubly 70 nights, a little touch up with "blue away" and they shine up real nice again...  dad always asked," Why cant we have nice things" I never listened   . lol   A+ in choice of headers..

My Rockets could use some touch up.  Where can i find this "blue away" you speak of?

Speedway, sells it, you might have to page thro thier Hotrod catalouge or just call them, 1-800-979-0122 its a small 8-10oz bottle, not that pricey, I actually bought it to shine up my sportsters pipes, worked pretty well on them, but hier a higher "show" type shine and not open to the killer elements and washes/cycles as our cars would be. I believe your local harley shop would have some similar products but I havent tried any as of lately, it did a good job for the preseason type shows and sponsor appearances type stuff, you will have to dedicate some time to get them shined up, but if your like me i love the looks of nice pipes, (its a mechanical thing) i know, in a age of "black out" im still old school, dark colors with chrome is impossible to beat,   Now for your wheels, find some buffing compounds, i use red and white, they are different abbrasivenesses (is that a word?-gosh im smert) a few minutes with a varible speed polisher and a buffing pad  your crusty looking wheels will shine like a diamond again, with a few nicks and scratches mind you but from a distance they look great,  not the foggy glazed over look you get from age-soaps-dirt ect , i concentrate mainly on the inside wheels as most of our great camera shots come from inside of the track, besides the RR has a mud plug, as does my RF from time to time, make sure you clean them well, let them dry completly befor polishing, you will get alot of black type residue build up, this is the hint its working, ive had to work the polish in several times on wheels that got neglected for quite some time. now they are much easier to stay on top of with moderate attention, we all know the price of wheels arnt getting cheaper, and the EZ way out ifs just to powdercoat them, it looks fine on some paint schemes , but not my preferance. hell appearance has always been important to me, ive lost potential sponsors because they think im running nice stuff, (people that dont know anybetter) , my deal has been," if we cant be fast we might as well look fast " if i find extra time after routine maintinace is done, out comes the waxes and toothbrush!
