ARIZONA SPEEDWAY HOSTS USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINTS THIS SATURDAY

PEORIA, AZ – OCTOBER 16, 2013... This Saturday, October 19th, the cars and stars of the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will make their sixth and final appearance of the year at Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway. Located within ET Motopark, the action packed card will also showcase Pure Stocks, AMA Mod Lites, and the Robert Horne Ford Bombers. The Front Gates will open at 5:15pm and Racing at the popular 3/8-mile oval will start at 7:00pm.

Heading into Saturday’s event, three different drivers have scored main event wins at Arizona Speedway. Series point leader R.J. Johnson and “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. have stood in victory lane on two occasions. “The Magic Man” Mike Martin claimed the feature win on April 13th and with valuable points up for grabs, a talented roster of drivers will be ready for action.

Phoenix’s R.J. Johnson has a 55 point advantage over the competition. Piloting the Bill Michaels’ owned #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson finished second last Saturday at Casa Grande. Currently, the point leader has nine feature wins, eight Racers Advantage Store Heat Race victories, five Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, two hard charger awards, nineteen top-10 finishes, and 287 feature laps led on the season. R.J. will have his sights on the feature win as he continues his championship bid.

“Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. of Buckeye is second in the point standings. Driving the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis scored fourth in the main event at Central Arizona Raceway. To date, the five-time Arizona Sprint Car Champion has six feature wins, eleven  Racers Advantage Store Heat Race victories, three Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, two semi-main wins, three hard charger awards, twenty-four top-10 finishes, and 107 feature laps led. “Chargin” Charles” will be looking for another Queen Creek victory and gain championship points on Johnson.

Yuma’s “The Magic Man” Mike Martin sits third in the USAC SouthWest point chase. Racing his #16 PPG Pittsburg Paints / Ultimate Offroad Maxim, Martin placed third last Saturday night. Currently, the USAC “Hall of Fame Classic” winner has one feature win, one fast time award, seven Racers Advantage Store Heat Race victories, nineteen top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led. On Saturday, “The Magic Man” will have his sights on adding the winner’s trophy to his collection.

Shon Deskins of Phoenix is fourth in the championship point standings. Driving his #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars Spike, Deskins raced to sixth at Queen Creek after starting tenth. The Canyon 1-lap track record holder has yet to win a USAC SouthWest feature, but has eight Racers Advantage Store Heat Race victories, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, fifteen top-10 finishes, and eight feature laps led in 2013. The veteran driver will be one of the favorites to win the 30-lap main event on Saturday.

Tucson’s Ronnie Clark is fifth in the point standings. Piloting the family owned #6 RCM / Ellis Race Cars machine, Clark scored fifteenth at Central Arizona Raceway. As this writing goes to press, the veteran driver has yet to claim a main event win, but has three Racers Advantage Store Heat Race victories and thirteen top-10 finishes in the campaign. On Saturday, Ronnie will be looking for a breakthrough victory at Arizona Speedway.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Josh Pelkey, Andy Reinbold, Chris Bonneau, Brian Hosford, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Mike Bonneau, Steven Harms, Tom Ogle, James Aragon, Michael Curtis, “The Bullet” Bob Ream Jr., Jody Wirth, and more.

Arizona Speedway is located at 47346 N. Ironwood Road in Queen Creek, just five miles south of Mesa. To get to the track, exit Ironwood Drive on US 60, then head four miles south. Adult Tickets are $15, Senior Tickets are $12, Kids Tickets (11-7) are $5, and Children 6 and under are FREE.
