Wednesdays with Wayne – Heavy in Wichita! (Bill W) October 9, 2013 – Wayne Johnson has raced many times at 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas. It has long been the home base for the NCRA, and it played host to the series on Saturday night. The 3/8-mile oval was as heavy as the Knoxville, Iowa veteran has ever seen it, and he drove to a fourth place finish. After taking a weekend off, Wayne will hit the Devil’s Bowl Speedway with ASCS on October 18 and 19 with a new scheme on the car designed by five1seven Designs. Wayne drew the pole for his heat. “Danny Wood got the jump on me on the outside and we ran second,” he says. “I’m telling you, I’ve been to Wichita a lot in my lifetime, but I’ve never seen it so heavy.” The heat finish would mean a starting spot outside of row four for the feature. “We were able to get up to third,” says Wayne. “At that time, our lap times were actually better than the leaders. We were catching them. Once we cleared some of the cars in front of us…it was tough to pass, and we were trying to run them down.” Wayne would checker fourth. “It was hard to pass anyway,” he says. “It was wide open around the top. I was able to get by (Danny) Lasoski, and then I got hemmed up big-time behind a lapped car, and he got me back. So we ended up fourth.” With big races in Dallas and Little Rock later on this month, the #77x was running well. “Everything was good with the car,” says Wayne. “We were wide open around there the whole way. We’re excited going forward.” Meanwhile, next week will still be a busy one. “We’re taking off on Saturday and spending the week in Oklahoma,” says Wayne. “I’m going to do some work on the trailer.” End of the Year T-shirt Sales The Wayne Johnson Racing #77x team has a t-shirt sale going on. They have this year’s Chili Bowl shirt, as well as four different designs from 2013. The shirts can be purchased at the trailer at the racetrack. They are two for $20, or $15 each.
