Brad Loyet – Hard-charger at Lucas Oil! (Bill W) October 1, 2013 – With a tough cast of characters gathered at the Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri, Brad Loyet and the Vacuworx Global/Miller Truck Lines #o5 team held their own. After going from 12th to sixth on night one, the Sunset Hills, Missouri driver was the hard-charger in Sunday’s finale, driving from 22nd to 7th. This weekend, the team plans on running Friday’s MOWA show close to home at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. Things started Friday with a second place heat run after starting inside row two. “We had a really good car in the heat race,” says Brad. “We got to second and I was giving (Logan) Forler everything I could for the spot. I was showing my nose underneath of him. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do anything with him.” The heat finish put Brad outside of row six for the preliminary feature. “We had a really good car,” he says. “We drove up to fifth, and we were racing with (Derek) Hagar pretty hard for fourth. A lapped car kind of got racing with us, and Jason (Johnson) got by me. We ended up sixth.” With such a big field, not getting into the top four really mattered for the finale. “We missed the lock-in spot by a couple,” says Brad. “It would have been nice to get locked in with fifty cars there. It’s tough to make the redraw on the second night.” After a rainout on Saturday, the race was rescheduled for late Sunday afternoon. Brad would start fifth in the heat, and had his eyes on a win, and the redraw. “We were up to second,” he says. “We had a really good car again. On a restart with two to go, I was just thinking about the redraw. So I went for a slidejob for the lead and it came up short. I didn’t clear it. That allowed Johnny (Herrera) to get underneath me. That had me stuck up where I didn’t want to be, and (Tim) Crawley got by me too. We went from finishing second and being in the show for sure, to running the B main.” Brad would start and finish third in the B. He was a rocket, earning hard-charger honors in the finale. “We learned a little bit in the B,” he says. “We were able to start 22nd up to seventh. I feel I had the best car I could have asked for. If we would have run more laps, we would have just kept passing cars. It was a really good racecar.” The track surface was a pleasant surprise for many, considering the early start on Sunday. “I was definitely surprised,” says Brad. “I thought it was going to be a dry-slick, take rubber deal. Emmett (Hahn) and Dan Robinson did a great job working together. It was the best racetrack we’ve raced on at Lucas Oil Speedway, and I hope they remember it for the future.” Brad’s Weekly Releases If you’d like to be added to Brad’s e-mail list for weekly releases, e-mail [email protected] with “Loyet” in the Subject Line.
