Jerrod Hull – Elusive Queen’s Royale Finally Conquered!

(Bill W) September 30, 2013 – All the bad luck that Jerrod Hull and the Rockwell American #12 team have faced over the years was erased Saturday night with a win at the Queen’s Royale.  The $4,000 feature victory came at the St. Francois County Raceway near Farmington, Missouri.  The Sikeston, Missouri driver return to action this Friday night at the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois.

A two-race weekend started Friday in open competition in Benton, Missouri.  “It was so slimy,” says Jerrod of the track conditions.  “The cars just pushed up the track.  We drew dead last in the heat race (eighth) and ran seventh.  We about crashed two or three times.”

Starting 13th, Jerrod would checker seventh.  “Once the slime got thrown off, it was rough and tacky,” he says.  “Everything that went wrong, seemed to.  The motor wasn’t running that well.  At that point, we decided to go to Farmington Saturday.”

Things looked similar when Jerrod and the team saw the track in Farmington on Saturday.  “We got there and the track was so wet,” he says.  “We were saying, ‘Oh no, not again.’  But they got us out there to run it in and we went out kind of late in qualifying and timed in seventh.”

He would start third in the heat and come home second.  “The track was great by the heat race,” says Jerrod.  “We were able to run the top and the bottom.  We ran third in the Dash (from fifth), and every time we hit the track we were really nice.”

Jerrod settled into the 30-lap feature.  “We got to second early,” he says.  “We passed Jimmy Hurley for the lead there once and the caution came out.  He went back in front of me and we took off again. We were able to get back by him, and we were just sitting there trying to make good laps.”

Jerrod was cruising up front when it began to rain late.  “We were really nice,” he says.  “There were about four laps to go, and it started raining.  They called it at that point, which was fine with me.”

The annual Queen’s Royale has been one of the few big races to elude Jerrod.  “We were running really well in 2008, and we had a good chance of winning it,” he says.  “The car caught on fire, and that’s when I tore my knee up.  A couple years ago, when Ian Madsen won it, my right front shock broke.  We’ve just had a lot of bad luck over the years.  To win it, was really great.  It was exciting.”

Jerrod is excited to get back in action with the MOWA this Friday.  “Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going, and keep our points lead,” he says.  “We’re really looking forward to getting back to Granite City.”
